***THIS PIC IS FAKE!!!!!***

Via Joystiq (dumbasses):

According to the latest issue of PlayStation Magazine, a new design of the Sony PSP will be hitting the shores of Japan around March of 2007. Here are a few of the features that are said to be included in the makeover:

* Reached a deal with Samsung to purchase 8GB flash memory chips which will be built in according to industry reports
* Miniature hard disk drives are out
* Will be streamlined and thinner and lighter
* Sony is still expected to include a still/video camera of undetermined resolution as a built-in feature of the new PSP

So, maybe Sony was being truthful when they denied a possible PSP 2 anytime soon and instead were going the route of "enhancing the current version," as John Koller told us in July. Now, if only we can change the single nub notion and get rid of the UMD format, then we'd be in serious business for a killer handheld.

I read the article, and it was pretty much confirmed. But there was no picture attached and they said there would not be any major aesthetic changes beside making it thinner and lighter.

i think this is a waste of effort personally. PSP is still the slickest game system out there from a design standpoint. And with memory stick prices dropping fast, the appeal of built-in storage is not as strong.

Looks like the Saturn pad, which would be a very good thing IMO, that thing also has two analog nubs, It doesn't look as sexy, but I bet it'd be more comfy, and better to play.

the picture isnt real or indicative of what the system will look like.

I would buy that PSP revision but ius that the new revision, cuz ehh.. it looks kiddie

Edit: Thank god its fake! I was about to hug my old PSP.

Just make it thinner and lighter with 8 GB memory and I'll buy it day 1!!!

Uh... that would mean it would be a completely different Sony handheld, after only 2 years. Why would they wish for that?

With MS Duo prices dropping so much, why would I possibly waste my money on a device with no other enticing features

Ken already said the screen was the pride and joy of the PSP, there's no way they'd make it smaller in a redesign.

Internal flash memory will definitely be a good thing. Now how about a screen that doesn't blur to all hell anything something moves?

PSM Rumor: New PSP Model in Spring 2007

RUMOR: PlayStation Magazine has reported a number of unconfirmed news about the new model of PSP:

* Samsung has signed a contract with Sony to supply a huge quantity of 8GB Flash storage chips, which will be incorporated into the new PSP
* The 8MB storage plays a key role in downloading contents on PSP, via online or PS3
* The new PSP will have a built-in camera which should have same functions as the EyeToy
* Production costs of the new PSP will be lower than the current mode, because it will be slimmer and easier to produce
* A new configuration for the UMD slot, the game will be inserted directly into the system
* The new version of PSP is expected to launch in spring 2007

Comcept is hideous ...

... but dual 'nubs' would certainly be a great direction to move. That would make for much easier multi-console games.

Gyros would be a good idea too :)

Next Gen biz is reporting this, too. They said UMD is going slot load rather than having the back pop open the way it does now. No second analog stick, either.

Next-Gen is ultra slow, reporting 10 days old news :lol

the psps is really uncomfortable in my hands so that design would be nice for me. As for it being fake well damn that sucks but oh well.

The problem is Sony expects too much from third-parties when it is they themselves who should be showing them how to go about executing their vision with their handheld. How should it be used? What is its potential? Sony should have established the blueprint for all of this at the PSP's launch or damn near close to it, so the third-party support could take note and follow in their example.

Yeah, I can't believe they'd add second nub. Any games made to take advantage of it wouldn't be playable on PSPs made up to this point.

I want to buy a PSP,so should I wait for the lighter version? The battery won't improve so I don't think it's worth the wait....
