Releases tomorrow, and it should be on your radar if you like frenetic but skillful combat. I'd describe it as a mix of The Swindle, Hotline Miami, and Max Payne's balletic shootouts or John Woo's graceful acrobatic action

Offense | Time Dilation | Flash Bangs
Forget everything you’ve learned about combat. Cobalt’s slo-mo mechanic lets you perform moves that other games can’t comprehend. Play though the story and discover answers to mysterious questions including: What happened to the humans? Why am I riding a space hamster? How is my cyborg head so good at deflecting bullets? Multiplayer is a less cryptic, though equally enjoyable affair: face off against friends and enemies in local or online multiplayer, learn the intricacies of over 80 maps and 67 weapons, and dominate the leaderboards.
Picked this up last year and it was so good. It's one of those games that, even though the game seems suited for multiplayer, the solo gameplay is just polished and fun. This is a game that lets you in guns blazing or...equipping a cloaking Stealth Suit and Hack Grenades to hijack enemies, then turn them against your foes

- Enjoy 6 multiplayer modes on over 80 maps. Play locally or online.
- Wield over 37 ranged weapons, 33 melee weapons, 6 hand shields, and more...
- Use Cobalt's signature move - the combat roll - to deflect projectiles or line up sweet headshots.
- Take advantage of our automatic-extreme-slo-mo mechanic, to pull off sick manoeuvres like rocket punches, bullet deflects, or last-second goals
- Customise weapons and armour to your personal taste.
- Play through the story alone or in co-op. Tame wasps! Take part in unnecessary dancing mini-games. Make friends with birds then get sad when they explode into puff of feathers

Got my hands on Mojang's Cobalt and holy shit, it is awesome
The high-level videos of this are going to be amazing
I've been playing the challenge maps present in the current alpha, and Cobalt has really impressed me with its very satisfying gameplay and tactical depth. Your loadout is extremely customizable, including an large selection of guns, melee weapons, throwables, skills, upgrades, and equipment. To name some of the gear in the game: a cloaking stealth suit, time-slowing grenades, rocket boots, a scoped rail gun, a riot shield, a passive reflecting shield, hack grenades that let you control enemies, flash-bangs, silencers, and much more.
Take the plan-and-pounce pacing and hectic eruption of chaos seen in games like Hotline Miami or The Swindle and the acrobatic gunplay of a John Woo film, and that would be Cobalt's gameplay in a nutshell. A typical action beat sees you sliding down an embankment, punching a rocket back at a turret, turning mid-slide to shoot a sniper behind you, rolling to deflect bullets, and shooting while rolling to take out enemies above you. Or, given the extensive armory, maybe you'll distract enemies with a decoy, blind them with a flash-bang, then hack a powerful Predator foe to wipe out the stunned robots.
Enemies are quite varied as well, ranging from organic beasts and spear-wielding natives to robotic combat squads. Some might carry shields, forcing you to attack from behind or above, or wield devastating sniper rifles, among other challenging permutations. The deep moveset, extensive array of weapons and gear, and diverse foes gives the gameplay, especially the challenge maps, that one-more-go appeal where you want clear areas in the smoothest slickest way possible.

Using Cobalt’s roll at the right time to send your little blue bot careening into a projectile will deflect that bullet back at your attacker. This is a shooter where you launch yourself into incoming bullets. It’s as refreshing as it sounds.
Likewise, when an explosive flies towards you – be it a rocket or a grenade – you can use a melee attack to bat it back at your aggressor. It’s an interesting twist, and one that takes some adjusting to, but it feels rewarding once you wrap your head around it. Spamming the roll results in your gymnastics slowing down, upping the chance you’ll be shot in the feet – your only vulnerable area during the maneuver – meaning you have to react rather than guess. You can even shoot while rolling, but you have to time your shots with the roll to make sure they aren’t aimed at the floor – although punching the floor during a roll can give you a bit of extra height on a jump.
It feels like I can keep talking about new features all day. When infiltrating an enemy compound you can go in all guns blazing, use stealth – which admittedly can be a touch fiddly – or a mixture of the two. There are terminals to be hacked, locks to be picked, hostages to be rescued, resourced to be mined, safes to be cracked, and more. For brief moments, it can feel like a 2D Deus Ex. It is rich with ideas.
