The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth has been rejected by Apple due to its depiction of violence towards children.

"C'mon, wtf... Apple", wrote publisher Nicalis' founder Tyrone Rodriguez on Twitter.

Rodriguez attached an image of Apple's rejection stating "Your app contains content or features that depict violence towards, or abuse of, children, which is not allowed on the App [Store]."

Weirdly, Nicalis never announced an iOS version of the darkly comic action-roguelike, though three years ago the game's creator, Edmund McMillen, said in a blog post "we are also looking into an iOS version if its not garbage."

We've requested comment from both Rodriguez and McMillen about how they intend to combat this rejection. Will they argue with Apple, censor the game, or boycott the platform? We'll let you know more as we find out.

Not unexpected tbh. I'm sorry they had to spend the dev time and money to make something that won't make it.
Which makes me think: aren't there experts who can tell you if you have a chance to release something on the app store before you take the time making it??

The way Apple filters out stuff like this but allows sprite-to-sprite Pokémon clones bothers me a lot. Fuck that.

And yet games that fuck with real children are good to go?

Listen, you can't show violence like that in the app store. You can only literally exploit children by making candy games that ask for money every 2 minutes. Also those assests can be stolen.

Apple always have strange double standards towards video games.

Its a bad service for them.

What about if he put a disclaimer at the start. 'All characters were 18 years old at the time of rendering'

WHAT THE FUCK?!? Why would anyone, even the sickest people on the internet, make a prego DORA THE EXPLORER game and sell it on the Apple Store? My mind has been thoroughly blown.

Oh you poor unfortunate soul.
The internet has such sights to show you.

Please no tears. Its a waste of good suffering.

There's a fetish for everything.

I suppose these apps are more targeted to young kids who has just started to be interested in how the body works... targeted in a very fucking twisted way.

Too be a bit more fair. Binding of Isaac has some insanely fucked up stuff in it.

I find free-to-play app about pregnant Dora the Explorer cleaning room filled with knives and leftovers more fucked up TBH.

No. It's completely arbitrary.

They are only protecting the artistic integrity of their AppStore. Only high quality whale hunters allowed.

What the hell.

BioShock shows violence towards children (sorta) and wasn't rejected by Apple lol

Violence towards children that's a bit of an overstatement just because you can kill and harvest what's inside little sisters.

TBoI has a kid falling in an endless pit. Way too hardcore compared to Bioshock.

Apples store, their rules.. you either get with it or you dont. Its not the only digital store out there.

This kinda reminds me of when Apple kicked up a stink about the nude images in Papers, Please.

They are so wildly inconsistent with this shit. I bet that with a little more luck it would have passed with a 12+ rating.
There are games banned in Germany that are rated 12+ on the app store. (Duke Nukem 3d, Carmageddon) Don't even need to list the things you can do in those games that are way worse compared to anything from BoI.

It's not? Please show me all these other digital storefronts for iOS (that I can access without jailbreaking).
There is a world outside of iOS - if IOS or Apple devices are your only way to play games you are out of luck when it comes to this title.
*read in Sean Bean's voice*

How does one 'get with it', when 'it' is not consistent?

Its their store, they can chose what to offer and what not...doesnt really matter how consistent they are they dont need Binding of Isaac and no one can or will force them to make the game accessible through their store.

What it tells me is that there are different people in Apple responsible for content review and approval of apps on their marketplace. It's by committee, then the head of it or whoever spoke the loudest to not allow it rejected it.

Either that or it is computerized and it's automatically rejected.
