New screenshots reveal huge environments of Styx: Shards of Darkness

Styx: Shards of Darkness, the sequel to Cyanide Studios’ infiltration cult classic Master of Shadows, comes to consoles and PC on Unreal Engine 4 in 2016. Styx’s sneaky adventure comes back with new features, new environments, and Unreal Engine 4!

In today's screenshots, we witness Styx prowling through some of the huge environments of the game. From the City of Thieves, built from the wreckages of lost ships, to the great Elven city of Korangar hidden in the mountains, the environments of Styx: Shards of Darkness are enormous and semi-open, with an emphasis on verticality. They allow for a lot of freedom to complete the various missions' objectives. They are fantastic playgrounds for Styx to test his stealth and assassination skills, and try out his new moves such as rope-swinging and zip-lining!

These are just some of the huge open spaces oozing with verticality to explore in Styx’s new infiltration adventure! With new ways to traverse the landscape, a deep and original story, as well as huge new features yet to be revealed, Styx’s 2016 mission will be his biggest yet!

Styx: Shards of Darkness comes 2016 to PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

What is semi-open? You can see it but you can't go there? I just hope they fix the greatest flaw of the first one and get rid of that backtracking. The mechanics were great.

MMMM this pleases me-first one was an underrated gem

The first one was a really really great stealth game. I think it just went under alot of radars. Add it to your Wish Lists on steam people, it's been on sale quite a few times.

This is probably going to be my GOTY as the potential is there for something special. The original is one of the finest stealth games in years, warts and all.

With how modern versions of Splinter Cell and Thief have turned out, I'm glad Styx is giving stealth another chance. Really looking forward to it.

Please just fix the loading times.

I played the PC version and the loading times were pretty short. Console issue?

Yeah, the PS4 version had HUGE loading times, it was pretty annoying.

PC version for me. I hope the game soesn't fuck up like it did for me. In the last area of the game, before the final boss, it would crash every time I booted the game up. No fix worked.

It's looking really good. The original game is an unappreciated stealth gem, so I'm glad it did well enough to get a sequel.

Here's hoping they improved the performance on PS4, not sure how it is on X1, but the frame rate chugging and backgrounds loading as you turn soured the experience of a pretty fun stealth game.

I still need to try Master of Shadows. It has been on my wishlist since it basically came out, and I really don't know why I haven't bought it yet.

Played the original for a couple hours, due to PS Plus around the time I got MGSV... You can understand my impressions on it. Maybe i'll give it another chance one day.

By the way, when can we expect (if at all) Styx to feature in a bundle? I think that's the reason why I still haven't bought it, but I did almost get it for $7,49 in the recent Steam sales.

"Now a real assassin needs to be sneaky. Make sure you don't fart."

Ugh... Wow this is some 3 year old humour from this awful voice over.

I didn't make it through the tutorial in the first game as it was still going on 40 minutes after the game started. Should I give it another try? Does the protagonist stop talking absolute garbage at some point?

You should give it another shot on the basis of it being one of the few good stealth games of the last generation.
