Xbox Spring Showcase 2016: Phil Spencer conference Video 360° [29:11]

As a big fan of Xbox and also having Gaming PC I'm all in with what Phil says here, it comes across so much clearer in video than in the text passed on in the media too.

As long as I get to play I don't care who else does and if that means I can buy a game on xbox, have it for PC and play where I left off on any it will be ideal for me so game in my office when away from the TV.

As for the forward compatible, iPhone like Xbox iterations Phil makes some great points, it's a bit of a leap but maybe it's time consoles have a sea change and keep up. I'd be down for following that journey and a lot happier committing to a future proofed platform than a single box.

Thanks for the link.

OT, but I love that they shot this with 360 video.

Any sign of a better quality non 360 video? That picture quality not doing my eyes any good.

This is the only video I've seen make it online, it's very for the press so makes me think if it was supposed to be public.

Anyway the 360 quality isn't great, think it skips a few times too, but the audio and hearing it come straight from Phil is well worth a listen IMO.

It looks like the had the Ok to record it being a 360 vid but the channel it's posted on and the tone for the press audience makes me think it was filmed for another purpose and could be pulled.

Anyway some really interesting stuff and points, i'd like to see them go further with unification where you buy once and you own like for KI and Quantum Break preorders but also for the rest like Gears etc.

Really enjoyed that - want to hear more details exactly how MS are looking to move their console to the steam machine paradigm since the (vague) information from this presser really has led to so many tangents and hypotheticals.

Great video. Phil on point again.

I love the vision they have going forward, great games all playable on your device of choice. Plus the very real possibility of an upgraded console in the near future. Maybe even news of it at E3.

How people spin this to "Microsoft are giving up" is baffling.

I only hope they properly nail the PC stuff. Valve have had it far too easy on PC for too long. 'Stealing' their customers will not be easy though.

Was that filmed with a hidden camera?

At 2:08 it almost looks like Phil notices this. I was like, what? lol.

Phil did a great job explaining himself and I get the impression that new hardware is imminent. Bring it! I'm ready. Phil makes some of the discourse in these parts seem silly. They are building and ecosystem with Win 10 devices including Xbox hardware front and center. Can't wait to see what is announced.

Because these people aren't paying close attention or just doing drive-by posts. They're stuck on old news.

Wait, what do you guys mean by upgradeable hardware? Like a yearly graphics card/memory upgrade? If so awesome.

Just took half an hour out of my day to watch that and I'm glad I did. Phils message is on point and I agree with him. Bring on the change, and this time, the right kind of change. Really can't wait for E3. Thanks for posting it.

Great talk. And I love how he address all the concerns people might have both on console side and on the Pc side of their push. Really, everyone in doubt should watch it.

That was great. Much better then what you read in text.

I'm really excited if they can nail this and Phil makes a great point. It's crazy that each generation builds this great ecosystem that essentially dies.

Gonna watch it now and see if what you say is true.....

He specifically address their commitment to xbox and how Ms focus is to make xbox one their best xbox yet, through games and features, and how this move will directly get more games on the system. And how decoupling the development platform from the hardware will allow them to innovate more in the hardware space. (Not an example he uses, but what I took from it: The Kinect 1 on 360. They had to cut corners on it to made I work with 360, but if that scenario was now they could have a beefed up system capable of running it properly. Which I assume will be their approach regarding holo lens, the device doesn't need to become attached and limited to xbone, they can make it attached to win10, and every win10 device that's powerful enough to support it will have the experience of a no compromise device)

Regarding Pc, he calls out the limitations of the uwa games including overlays and mods and says Ms is committed to bring those features to the platform, because their goal is not to have a pc store front that tries to shove console games to Pc gamers, but rather have a platform that delivers all the features Pc gamers want.

A lot of interesting stuff in this talk, especially the whole decoupling software and hardware thing and ending the concept of a traditional cycle.

They're going to get a lot of heat for this in the next few years as the Microsoft Store grows, but hopefully they adapt quickly and squash the main negatives surrounding UWA's and the poor layout of the storefront. Ultimately if they stick with it i'm all for their efforts.

Yeah listening to this there is zero doubt that we are getting an "upgraded" Xbox One hardware this generation. He doesn't suggest its just an idea he flat out states its happening

Yeah, I just finished watching...and I must say he gave a good talk. It was almost re-assuring to be honest though I am sure there will be those that just say its "just talk". I am glad he talked about the limitations and made it clear they plan to make sure all of those things that PC gamers expect in the PC space to be there.

Really looking forward to seeing if everything he said is kept true and to see how this entire vision pans out, its actually...exciting.

Nah, 360 BC games are 360 games in a wrapper.

Now, the emulator, that might be a UWA. If not now then at some point in the future...

Can't they just throw the 360 games on UWA? Or is it easier to use the wrapper? Sorry, I'm not a dev so I don't have a clue.

Yeah there are some really exciting times ahead. Im so interested to see how they transition out of the idea of a traditional hardware cycle. Really interesting future ahead of us

I agree, if done right...they can revolutionize/evolve the industry.

Maybe that's too far, but it will make things very interesting hopefully in a good way.

What is running on the Xbox One is an Xbox 360 VM (Virtual Machine). I fully expect the Windows 10 store to have Xbox 360 games in the future eventually.

The idea sound great and horrible for at the same time. I always thought that the console must be with zero complication when you are going to buy. You want a console, the only decision must be with what game you want bundle.
If that really happens lets see how they do it.

Good talk, much clearer perspective listening to him than just reading some of articles on particular soundbites.

He mentioned a lot of things on their roadmap to fix about UWAs and that they're committed to making UWAs capture the spirit of PC gaming, so it will be interesting to look back on this in a year and see what he delivered on. The multi-GPU, v-sync issues, and overlays seem simple enough, but the injectors and modding don't seem as likely (unless they come up with some kind of officially supported solutions for doing so I guess).

I will revise my thoughts about there not being a refreshed Xbox console this year only because he didn't have to mention it at all. In other words, it almost felt out of place considering this was to highlight their Spring releases, their commitment to PC gaming, and talk about addressing the Windows Store concerns on their recent releases. Maybe there is a more powerful Xbox One in store for later this year. I think I'll stick with just upgrading my PC, but I am definitely behind the idea of seeing shorter refresh cycles.
