GermanGAF: Pokkén Tournament street date broken

Just a heads up!
I just came back from Saturn @ MyZeil, Frankfurt and look what I found:

If you are in Germany, you should check out your local Saturn!

And yes it's called Pokémon Tekken here...I guess this is the reason:
https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pocken (Pox)

Spoiler:
I bought Dark Souls for PS3. Going to wait for a cheaper price.

Release date: March 18th

Edit:
Saturn Hamburg seems to be selling the game for 54,99 €.

Honestly Pokemon Tekken is a better name than Pokken. I'm still surprised they went with that name for the US.

My Wii U is getting repaired so I won't be able to play this damn game for like a month. Why didn't it break when there was nothing coming out last summer?

No, it's not "poe." That would be with a drawn out o sound. It's a short o, like in pocket.

Pokkén = Pocket.

It comes from Pocket Monsters after all.

Hence why it can't be called Pokkén since that's a 1:1 homophone with Pocken (pox).

At least in Japanese, it's 100% pronounced "Poe Ken" with a slight pause after "poe." Honestly it's a dumb name in English, just call it Pokemon Fighting Tournament or something.

No, it's Poe-ken. The kk is just how you Romanize the small tsu in ポッ拳. It wouldn't have been a 1:1 homophone. It still would have been close enough to Pocken, though.

It's Pokémon + Tekken. Pokkén.

I guess it'll be too much to ask if anybody has played it enough to say whether or not the Pokemon we've seen is the final roster.

Oh I wasn't aware of this thread, I got my copy today randomly too in Germany. I was basically strolling around in our local electronics store with a few friends and passed the Wii U shelf in disbelieve when I saw Pokémon Tekken and we swiftly grabbed a copy. If anyone wants to know anything feel free to ask.

What I was pleasantly surprised of, Japanese voice-acting for Nia is in.

How short or long does the single player content seem to be? Are there any more unannounced fighters? And is there anything else hidden that we don't know about or is that it?

Well I couldn't play more than a hour by myself so far but the single-player content seems quite alright :o

You have the Ferrum League which is separated into the Red, Blue, Green and Chroma League which pretty much represent the difficulty it seems. You start at the easiest and each league is filled with pretty diverse NPCs, presumably their data is created by arcade players as each NPC has a distinctive edited design and a Win Lose statistic. You pretty much have to play tournament qualifiers first, then the actual league's tournament and then you can do a promotion match to advance into the next league.

Then you have quite of things to unlock to customize your player avatar and you can also unlock new outfits for Nia (the advisor woman). There are also 13? I think pages of titles you can unlock for your online profile, some of which require you to raise a Pokémon to S Level 100 so I can imagine that will take a bit of time along with the regular arena and support-set unlocks.

I didn't spot any roster additions but the menu-design definitely allows for more Pokémon than we have seen. Shadow Mewtwo can be unlocked with the NFC Amiibo Card but he only stays unlocked till you restart the game, you have to use the card again upon next boot, I presume till you unlock him normally via gameplay.

The tutorial seems to cover the basics very well and after I completed the initial three tutorial courses I unlocked two additional courses called the "Pokkén Special Training Course" and the "Pokkén Maniac Course", according to the game for "High-Level Players" and "Pro Details" respectively but I didn't try these yet. Other than that there also seems to be a Move Training course and a Combo Challenge for each Pokémon.

Other than that, as said the options feature a English/Japanese voice toggle and I already tried to do a online match and it seemed super smooth, no lag whatsoever was noticeable, this was against another German player. If they game doesn't find a opponent in 10 seconds after starting a search you'll be automatically put in a "VS CPU" battle but I'm unsure if they game actually continues to search in the background while you fight the CPU.

Local 2P battles also run very well despite the 30fps downgrade, we had tons of fun yesterday, also because each Pokémon's movelist is quite varied and you have tons of options. Graphically the game is nice with varied arena's and lots of details going on in the background though I noticed a strange blur filter layered above the Pokémon once I was home. This might have been a weird quirk of my monitor though as I didn't notice anything of that sort while we still were playing on my friends TV.

If there's anything more I should answer just go ahead and ask :)

It does. Your battle against a CPU opponent will end once a human challenger is found.

So, I'm assuming that, since the game is officially in the public's hands, I should stop holding out hope that Hawlucha's in the game somewhere?

Oh joy, it's gonna be great to wait an extra week for the Sun/Moon release in Europe again.

I really hope that doesn't happen as that pissed me off, when Canada also release X and Y early and yet they got Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire the same day as the US.

Plus with Sun/Moon having new Pokémon it would be annoying for anyone wanting to avoid spoilers.

you can also unlock new outfits for Nia (the advisor woman).

Is it bad that I am excited about this feature?

Yes, Braixen is the only gen VI playable Pokémon in the game.

I'm still holding out hope that there will be a patch at launch, for more unlockable characters that we don't know about yet.

Yeah I noticed this aswell now, good design!

Is it bad that I am excited about this feature?

Not really no :P Having played a bit of the Ferrum League now, she also doubles as a companion besides an instructor.

Well my game already patched to version 1.1 so I'm sure I have the launch-day patch already but who knows what Nintendo has in store, their DLC plans are usually quite meaty :)

Yeeeeeeesss got me a copy as well!!!

Gonna throw a pokken party in a few hours!!

Congratz! :D Hopefully your friends won't chicken out like mine, we played Pokkén for two hours till we went back to Mario Kart Wii :P (It's our go-to game when we meet, seriously though if other people would see us playing MKW they would throw us straight into a asylum...)
