Ubisoft knock themselves off the top of the chart this week as ‘Tom Clancy’s The Division’ topples ‘Far Cry Primal’ (-58%) and in the process becomes the biggest ever Q1 launch.

Released on Tuesday 8th March, The Division breaks an 11 year record held by ‘Gran Turismo 4’ (back in W10 2005), outselling any other title released in the first 3 months of the year. It is also Ubisoft’s biggest ever launch of a Tom Clancy title, sitting behind ‘Watch Dogs’ and ‘Assassin’s Creed III’ as their third largest launch of all time. ‘Far Cry Primal’ slips to No2 and with another Tom Clancy title ‘Rainbow 6: Siege’ (-30%) also down one place to No10, Ubisoft can claim 3 titles in the Top 10 this week.

Heavyweights ‘Call of Duty: Black Ops III’ (+11%) and ‘FIFA 16’ (-12%) both creep up one place to No’s 3 and 4 respectively, while ‘Plants Vs Zombies: Garden Warfare 2’ (-39%) wilts slightly, down 2 places to No5 in its third week of release. ‘Lego Marvel Avengers’ (-21%) and ‘Grand Theft Auto V’ (-21%) are both non-movers at No’s 6 and 7 respectively, ahead of ‘Forza Motorsport 6’ (+18%) which accelerates up 2 places to No8. Sales of ‘The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD’ drop by 84% in its second week as it falls from No2 to No9. ‘Hitman’ makes an appearance at No29 with the boxed digital Collector’s Edition PS4 and Xbox One versions launched on Friday.

It is also Ubisoft’s biggest ever launch of a Tom Clancy title, sitting behind ‘Watch Dogs’ and ‘Assassin’s Creed III’ as their third largest launch of all time.

Sony’s ‘Gran Turismo 4’ (PS2) becomes only the fourth title to sell more than a quarter of a million in a launch week, becoming the 4th fastest selling game ever behind ‘San Andreas’, ‘Vice City’ and ‘Halo 2’. Sony’s ultra-realistic car racing game almost squeezed past Halo 2 (260k total market units) and nearly outdid the combined launch week sales of Gran Turismo 1, 2 and 3 (285k total market units).

250,000 > TOM CLANCY'S THE DIVISION < 332,000

So if the Division split numbers are accurate, or close to accurate, that means no.38 is still selling upwards of 3k.

That's much higher than I would have thought for so low in the charts.

Well, the split is 54:45, but maybe PC is not exactly 1%?

Maybe it's 54.3:45.2 and PC only 0.5%, or some 1500 copies. (just an example, but rounding can mean a couple of thousand PC copies difference)

That's a good point. 1.5k is about what I'd expect for that low in the charts.

Forza 6 doing well.

Wonder how it fares 6 months in compared to Forza 4. Forza 6 launch was quite low for the franchise but I'd guess its back up there.

If they keep coming out this frequent, I expect them to keep following a similar trend. I don't think you need a new racing game every year or two, so may as well get them when they're cheap.

I don;t like playing Driveclub, especially compared to either Forza, but I wish they would take a page out of their book for the level of support.

So Division did well. Seems deserved from what I've seen.

Based on good WoM I'm assuming Division will hold well for a while.

I kind of agree. It's a bit of a weird one. I think I am ok with one every 2 years, I can't wait for forza horizon 3. I really enjoy that franchise.

Ooops Double post, sorry. Thought I edited

Yeah at this point they might get as well use Forza 6 as a service, with free and paid updates. I can picture all the eyes rolling when Forza 7 is announced next year. I'm a Forza fan but I really don't need a new game every two years. Horizon is a bit different because it's a whole new area and soundtrack etc so I'm ok with one every 2 years personally.

Playstation stronghold.

Did you not expect a drop? Honestly I was expecting it be in the 20s or out of the top 40 completely.

A Game which was First out of TOP 40 in a week?

Did You saw how Much is dropped? 84%... That's a massive Drop.

Usually a normal Drop should ne ~70%, only massive Games like GTA V or CoD BO 1 / MW3 Drop that much, and only because The First week is insane.

It's also a Wii U game in the UK chart. It even been at #1 and then still at #10 despite such drop was and is already out of the norm...as a Wii U game in UK. :p

You had one job, Vega.

Was expecting The Division to open above Watch Dogs, wondering what's the difference bewteen the two.

Still great debut.

Heavy Rain with them legs! <3

Also holy shit, Zelda dropped like a rock, haven't seen such a massive drop in quite some time, on the bright side, just another proof that Nintendo has a crazy-devoted fanbase who will be there day 1 for their output.

All sports games could do with that sort of model IMO.

I don't know if you all are interested, but Namco Bandai sent me (and other suscribers, I guess) an email a while ago that said they are releasing a retail version of Digimon: Cyber Sleuth (PS4) in Spain. It should release near the end of the month, 31st of March I think. Dunno if it will chart on March or April, people that wanted a disc have probably imported the game already.

The Division, Primal, and Siege are in the Top 10 of the all formats chart. The Division dwarfs the other two, but Ubisoft must be super giddy with all that success. That's a stellar portfolio.

So what's the point lol?

I said the drop was massive, not that the sales aren't good. They are. But the second week drop is insane.

Oh, did it not have a proper retail release in Europe? How's Bandai's infrastructure there in general?

It makes me wonder if they'll keep AC on a 2 year cycle now. It doesn't seem like they'll need to rely on it so much as their major revenue driver when in the last couple of years they've really bolstered their portfolio. Looking forward For Honour's a question mark but at this point it'd be foolish to bet against that open world Ghost Recon game (Badlands?) being another hit for them.
