I Am Setsuna Director: "We'd Consider the Vita Version for the U.S." (USgamer.net)

Similar to how they've started asking for fan feedback regarding a US Vita release for Adventures of Mana, (which they are now looking into) it seems like they're open to the same with I Am Setsuna.

I had a chance to interview I Am Setsuna director Atsushi Hashimoto at GDC today; and as we were wrapping up, I noted the disappointment by some fans in North America that the Vita version isn't coming west. He replied that Project Setsuna was ultimately developed with the big screen in mind, but added, "Of course, there is a large Vita market in Japan. If there is a swell of demand in North America [for the Vita version], though, we will consider it."

So if you'd like to see the Vita version of I Am Setsuna get a western release, now's the time to let them know.

This is giving me some Type-0 vibes with people asking for a game version just for the sake of it without learning what the game was like. If someone really intended to buy the VITA version because they were interested in the game, I'd understand complaining about it. But just demanding a game that you weren't intended to support just because it skipped a likely not viable platform...

Not that I don't think people shouldn't ask for a VITA version of I am Setsuna, but I'm seeing just a bunch of comments that just focus on the fact that there's no PSV releasing overseas, and not about the actual game, or the fact that it's being localized (and coming to PC).

I want Vita version since I dont have a PS4...

even if I have to wait it's OK coz it not like I can have a PS4 by the time the game comes out for PS4 >_<

Same song and dance.

Since they ignored the fan feedback to the Adventures of Mana survey, I'll just assume this is another way of raising awareness through social media campaigns while still ignoring the people who will propel it for them.

Basically. Still haven't heard shit about the Adventures of Mana port that people were clamoring for.

They are porting the game to PS4. I'm sure we will hear wether the PSV version gets localized along at the time we get an update on the PS4 version status.

Except that Type-0 coming only to consoles made it pretty much bomb, and with currently released Digimon Cyber Sleuth selling very well on Vita it leads to alot of comments about games not selling well on Vita to be stupid.

I mean what else do Vita owners have to do prove that they buy games besides again the high attach rates.

It's got serious performance issues on the Vita that they probably cannot fix in any way. The version is frankly not worth owning from what I've seen.

Did it? I didn't follow how it performed commercially but that's nice to hear :)

Even if we won't get those two games after all, we might secure the western releases of other upcoming SE titles: Dragon Quest Builders, Dragon Quest Heroes 2 and SaGa: Scarlet Grace.

There is no Nintendo to save the games, so we have to do everything ourselves. Proving that handheld gamers still exist in west.

As someone generally up on things Nintendo and down on thing Sony there's still, you know, Sony out there who have a proven track record of helping projects (just not games from themselves, mind you) for the Vita. Especially smaller projects. Just because they haven't done anything recently with SE doesn't mean they don't have a long history together.

I don't know any RPG fan in the Vita community that wasn't pining for this game for quite awhile now and people who are likely seeing it for the first time now are discovering a title the same way anybody discovers any title.

With what happened with Cyber Sleuth, I am cautiously optimistic. Though this is SE.....

I don't think Setsuna has the advantage of a long-starving fan base from an anime to help it out, nor do I believe that most people interested in an old-school JRPG of this nature would really put up a sign that says "Vita or bust" with where their options are these days.

The demand for the HD version of Final Fantasy Type-0 was strong from European and North American fans, and with the inclusion of the playable Final Fantasy XV demo, it was proven a major success, selling over a million units globally.

Type-0 HD is a success. Why are you lying?

How hard is it to make it download only on Vita? Its not like theyre wasting money on resources in making physical copies.

It's all down to the cost of reprogramming the game for the localization. If they don't think its worth it, then they don't think its worth it.

Truth to be told, I wonder if SE is strictly speaking about initial shipment or not. Because as of today, 1 year later, nearly all copies are day one versions.

That's because they know the majority of sales were likely because of the 15 demo and them dropping said demo would mean an even smaller amount of people buying the game.

You sure? I know they mentioned they would LIKE to port it to PS4 after the smartphone/vita version was finished, but they haven't said anything about it. Cool if true though!

Fair enough. I'll throw my voice in to support the cause.

No Vita version turned out to be a fine way of getting media coverage for your game.

Damn.

I mean what else do Vita owners have to do prove that they buy games besides again the high attach rates.

That they buy ten copies of each game and never sell those.

Look at those idol otaku in Japan. They literally buy thousands of CD singles/albums just to vote for their favourite. One guy spends 200k yen to buy the same single over and over just to vote. That's just one guy! Then they throw those away or sell them for 1 Yen.

It runs poorly on Vita and frequently freezes on PS4. The only fix would be hiring competent devs, apparently.

That's shipped, btw. And it's not like it'd have sold less on Vita than on the Xbone.

Dedication right there

Is this why Chihaya wins out on so many polls when Yayoi is clearly superior? Why is fratricide so popular?

I heard Unity runs terribly bad on Vita...so the costs to make it not run so bad are likely to be pretty high. Sure, I'd like to play it on Vita, but at what cost?

It seems crazy to me not to do this, when they're already doing a localization for it. It's not like they're porting to Vita from scratch here.

They clearly over-shipped it, but calling it a bomb is non-sense.
