I hate Quantum Break's name. Why is it not called Jack Choice (rather than Joyce)

I've actually referred to the protagonist as Mr. Quantum Break since the announcement due to this

Because Choice is a surname they probably didn't feel sounded like a good name for their game character? Sounds like the sort of thing you regret if you end up making it into a franchise and called your character "Jack Choice"

Jack Choice sounds like there is no choice to me, so maybe they didnt think it would fit if the game is about choices? But i like their wordplay on names like Max Payne and A. Wake.

I mean they made an iOS game called Agents of Storm, and Death Rally
it's not that they're tied to it but I liked the idea of a trilogy of third person action games named after the main character, which in itself is a pun about the game's content
they even have the pun name

Nice idea, and I'm sure it started out like Jack Choice, but the brutal truth is that 'Jack Choice' just isn't as stylish or a cool a phrase as 'Max Payne' or 'Alan Wake'.
'Jack Choice' sounds lame, like a Golden-age superhero character by Stan Lee. It's just not a cool name.

Quantam Break sounds cool, new, different and most importantly; memorable.
Jack's Choice made me lol in rl. I wouldn't be able to ask for a game called Jack's Choice with a straight face. It's like changing the name Metal Gear Solid to Sneaky Snake.

I made fun of Max Payne way back then too, and I agree with you. It's probably the most embarrasing Name/Title there is. Maybe next to Crash Bandicoot's working title, 'Wuzzy the Wombat'. Point being, no one should be taking inspiration from Max Payne's naming convention for titling their game lol.

The more I think about it the more I think you're right.
Jack Choice at first would be like "ugh" but within months/years, and in the history books, it would become classic.
As Sam Lake said; "what everyone considers cliché, Remedy considers classic".
Max and Alan are wayyyyy less generic than 'Jack'.
'Max Payne' really is horrendous when you think about it.
