So is this an ARPG like those previous Slime GBA games or what? What's with the tank battles?
Yes it's pretty much like the GBA game with the tank battles added. But they tried to give the slime more traits of it's own so instead of having a sword it stretches in different directions when you hold B to attack. Not sure if he did that in the first game though.

He did.

But it's not like the GBA game with tank battles. That underplays how important the tank battles are to everything. Even when you're not in the tank battles you are collecting items and mixing them in order to make weapons for your tank.

The tank part is like Dragon Force but better. More options, more strategy, more fun.

The non-tank stuff is fun but it's more of a diversion between tank battles. The bosses for instance don't really compare to something like Zelda.

I missed out on the JP version of this because of other games, but I definitely want to pick up the US version. I`ll look into playing this closer to Christmas.

(Sengoku Basara 2, Venus and Braves, PS3 and Wii make me poor D: )

Can you set AI for the multiplayer for bots if its just you?

btw, how're the tank battles like Dragon Force? I never played it, but that's the Saturn game with huge armies fighting, right?

Normally I'd say don't even go there because it's going to set my standards impossibly high, but I'm curious enough to ask exactly what's similar about the two games.

100 glorious sprites charging towards 100 more glorious sprites, while two cocky bastard generals stand on the sidelines taunting one another and using awesome special skills before they engage in a mano-a-mano duel to the death.

****ing awesome game. :D

I dunno it just comes to mind. I guess they really aren't alike. But seeing two tanks (aka leaders) and attack sprites going back and forth just reminded me of DF when I played it.

So yeah, nm that.

Oops, I had played DW Monsters for a bit, but I got stuck then the game disappeared. Aside from that, I haven't played any of the spinoff-type games. Still have the box in pretty pristine condition, but the game vanished awhile ago.

DQM was such a great spin-off as well, built upon the concept introduced in the main games so well.

I think I got to around the 5th 'world' or whatever, then my monsters were too crappy to get through so I stopped. Then, I couldn't try again with the game vanishing. I got stuck pretty early on in Pokemon Red too, and that disappeared as well. I'm just no good at those types of games I guess, in multiple ways.

Already preordered in full... got the keychain and everything (had to go to 2 diff. stores to find one though). Can't wait to get this game, the original was a really fun game, and I'm sure this'll be even better to play in English. I just hope its successful, so we see more DQ spinoffs in the US... and maybe, just maybe, DQ5PS2...

I am completely and utterly in love with this game. My only complaint is that there's just one save slot per cartridge.

k, this game has me entirely intrigued, but I'm lazy. Can some one sum up the basic premise of the game for me?

I'll ask again: can you play the multiplayer game by yourself? The review says bots are added to even out players not there, but that's when you're going against someone. I don't want to pay 35 bucks for a short game right now but the multiplayer sounds long and awesome and I'd get it day one if you can play it against the cpu.

Yes and no.

There aren't any bots, so you can't play the full-fledged multiplayer mode by yourself. However, multiplayer is plays just like the Monster Tank battles you're fighting in single player, the only difference that you're playing against a human instead of a computer. The gameplay and mechanics are exactly the same.

looks like once again Future Shop and Best Buy in Canada aren't carrying this title. Looks like I'll have to give EB more of my money. Damnit anyways.

Amazon's got it for $35 CDN.

Anyone have the game yet? Or are all stores getting theirs tommorow?

Just called EB/Gamestop here in NYC, 14th St and they told me to call back after 2PM. Of course, yesterday I called and they told me they were still taking care of pre-orders, so I dunno what to think.

ROFL @ "Chrono Twigger."

I'm picking it up in about an hour. I'll post impressions... maybe... if I can pull myself away.

Off-topic, but it's a SquareEnix DS game and I can't make a new thread...

Front Mission to DS with WiFi play:

"Whilst the title of Front Mission the First implies a port of the original Super Nintendo classic, apparently there will be sufficient improvements to warrant the game's purchase. There will be new Wanzers, Glen Duval from Front Mission 5 on the PS2 will feature, there will be additional scenarios mixed in, battle scenes will now be in 3D and it will even make use of Nintendo's Wi-Fi Connection! I've been playing for a couple hours (thank goodness for my one day off a week), it's even better than I expected.

The 'boing blast' gameplay is extremely satisfying and addictive. I find myself blasting into trees and enemies and collecting items for no good reason at all, just because it's fun. Also, after playing nothing but StarFox and Cooking Mama for the past week, it's a very nice change of pace to play a game that doesn't use the touch screen.

I've beaten the first boss, which was extremely easy... yet extremely fun. I love the concept of 'sending' items and rescued slimes back to your town. I feel like I'm stocking up for a big battle (I havn't actually gotten to the first tank battle yet...) but I'm not sure what collecting undefeated enemies does for me yet.

Other than the child-like difficulty (which may ramp up later, I've only just start the second 'world'), the only complaint I have is that you can't "save anywhere"... you have to go back to the home town and go to the only save point in the whole game (at least, that I know of right now.) It's not annoying to go all the way back (you can take the river or train tracks that you throw items/enemies on and it'll ask if you want to warp back to town)... I just wish I could save anywhere and continue from that spot... but then again, you can just close the DS and it'll go into sleep mode.

More impressions once I do a tank battle!!!

This game.. is ****ING AWESOME. It starts out a little slow, but once you start building your tank up, and realize why you've been collecting all the enemies, and items, and fellow slimes... It's addictive as hell, and fun, and amazingly colorful and pretty. The music rocks, too. I'm so happy we finally got one of these.

black and white instructions...

Seriously, how lame is this? Square Enix RPG debut on DS in North America, and it's got black and white instructions. I'd like to punch them in the face.
