Eurogamer: How does Overwatch play on consoles? (PS4/Xbox One Gameplay & Comparison)

-60fps
-Hitting 1080p on both consoles but is using dynamic resolution to keep 60fps when shit hits the fan.
-Less sharp then PC (logical)
-Slower turnspeed (logical)
-Gameplay abit tweaked on console versions. For example turrets do less damage so that people have more time to react.
-Content update as close as possible to the pc version.
-No crossplay plans for launch. But open minded. But concerned about PC vs consoles.
-Overall the gameplay feels quite different on consoles then PC but impressed about the ports.

Summary for those of us at work:

I had some hands-on time with the PS4 and Xbox One versions last week and came away mostly impressed with what I played. The resolution varies, but importantly, the framerate doesn't. As far as I could tell, they both maintain a consistent 60FPS, which proves a real necessity in a game like this.

60fps? Thanks for ruining my cinematic pixar experience Blizzard.

As if I needed a reason to buy this on consoles too.

Blizzard console port is no joke.
But I bought PC version, maybe double dip if the game have cross save.

"...they both maintain a consistent 60FPS, which proves a real necessity in a game like this."

Uhm... a shooter? I agree, but somehow 30 FPS shooters are also just fine when console hardware can't do 60, so which is it Eurogamer?

60FPS for First person Shooters, plz

A very fast paced twitch shooter in an online competitive environment. Sure 30fps is acceptable but 60 is much better and mostly the standard this generation for games like this.

If the game is well-received, I think I may end up with it on both PC and console. None of my friends have gaming PCs, and I'd certainly like to play with them in this type of game, but I much prefer M/KB controls for a fast-paced shooter.

Don't know what rock I've been under but I've only just heard about this game.

Pretty surprised it's not locked 1080/60 on both consoles.

Looks great though, glad more devs are using variable res to keep framerates locked. Hallelujah!!

How would crossplay work with the already significant differences between the two versions?

AM i wrong to have played the PC beta with the xbox one controller? :P

I legitimately have no idea how people would use a character like Tracer or Genji effectively with a controller.

PC vs consoles would be a massacre on this game, however I do hope they incorporate a cross buy/save feature like Paragon has so i don't have to choose between my platforms.

PC vs console is never gonna happen.

This. People playing at 60fps or higher framerates while using gaming mice, keyboards and mousepads vs people using controllers = No way in hell would this be a good idea.

It seems Blizzard has nailed the technical aspects of the game on console, I just wonder how popular it'll be. IMO, Paragon, Overwatch, and Battleborn are going to flop on consoles. I'm not optimistic about their success at all.

And to be fair they "confirm" it also @4:15 really. I mean they dont say "no" but yeah how he says it. Not gonna happen.

The amount of updates compared to PC is probably the biggest concern. I don't play Diablo but it sounds like the console versions miss out on a pretty significant chunk of content and events (seasons, etc).

Would it be possible to allow PC players play vs console but have to be using a controller? I always wondered with MS pushing Windows 10 and Xbox together if this would ever be an option. MS already said Xbox players would have the choice of only playing against xbox players if they wanted to with cross platform play. Couldn't the same option be given to PC players? Keyboard and mouse if you want, controller against controller if you want.

since the game is balanced differently, like mentioned above, that's not going to happen.

I'd like to see the variable resolution in action.

Like, I don't really pay attention to things like resolution, but I'd like to see that happening...

Wait what? Is that because of the controllers?

Also, people should be happy. Dynamic resolution is lame but constant 60fps is a must.

This is a twitch shooter folks. Your 30fps argument holds no power here.

I think we will get the basic stuff like maps and heroes fairly close together but since the actual gameplay mechanics have been altered, I can see a split between what is changed on the PC and what gets changed on Consoles, so this might make the gap wider but then the consoles will be getting specific patches the PC might not get.

I also think the Crossplay options between consoles will give Overwatch a much higher chance of having a lasting community.

I really wish this had a SP campaign. There aren't enough colorful FPSes like this around. As of now I know I'll pick up it and play it for like 12 hours then put it down like I do most competitive multiplayer games.

I know this is a pipe dream, but it's such a good idea. Probably a nightmare to implement. It's my ideal situation though; would love to see Battlefront add that.

Kind of wish they'd done this for titanfall.

Movement & traversal felt way better on a controller, but you'd get slaughtered in a firefight against mouse & keyboard users.

I actually used an XONE controller on PC in TItanfall and did fine. But this would have been a great game to implement cross play controller matchmaking since the PC community evaporated.

I think at least Tracer is going to be powerful on consoles. It was the same in TF2 with Scout. It was easy to own with him because most players play with slow sensitivity so it's easy to run around them.

Some said the same when Diablo 3 was talked about on console. Blizzard will just change what they need to change to make it work. Characters and skills will get reworks and it will still be a great game.

Oh, the short days of TF2 on 360. What a magical time when so many console players didn't know what they were doing.

Jup expect that also.

:P luckily i didn't play either during my small amount of time with the beta. heh

I understand the turn speed being reduced but doin't understand why Turret damage needs to be reduced. Seems like Torbjorn will be harder to play now.

They cited slower turning and reaction speed. It might actually lead to people placements the turrets intelligently and no just slapping them down for easy kills.
