Resident Evil 7 Beginning Hour [Demo] Impressions (Spoilers)

This is a thread with spoiler about the Demo released yesterday and I recommend to play it before read here. The Demo itself didn't have any story spoiler or anything like but it fun to resolve the light puzzle alone instead to read what happens.

Took me about 20 minutes to finish the demo.

The atmosphere and actual design remember all back to first Resident Evil and the change to a first person view just add to overall experience... after some minutes I started to wish how could be the first Resident Evil in first person. The inventory and little puzzles are like previous games where you need to find some key/object to open/advance to the next part. And looks like there are even more secrets in this demo because I finished without open the ladder in the second floor (I couldn't find the power fuse). It was fun to realize the secret passage only after watch the flashback video.

The tension and fear of survival is there like no other RE I played. You really have fear to walk in the house and the sound fits perfectly with that.

I'm really excited to see how it will be the gunplay.

For now it is the best Resident Evil experience I have since I played Jill in the original game for PlayStation. Resident Evil is back
at least for me.

These that played it can share your impressions too.

Edit - I forgot... this game looks promising for VR.

Updated

Seems like I did not finish the demo and there are others ways to play it due the puzzles.
I'm really loving it.

Was wondering if someone would create this

How many playthroughs does this have? I finished in two differente ways, but I think there is more

Did one with the Key through the back door and another one opening the stairs

Really loved my time with it

Hijacking thread to ask if it's in the US yet. I can't find it on the store.

It is but you cant download it from the web store, need to be through PS Store on the PS4 itself

I played the US version. It is in the Demo section or you can go to the RE7 preorder page and see the try it now.
You need to be on PS4 and it is only downloadable for PS+ users.

Took 15 min for my first playthrough - was holding my breath the whole time

The Blair Witch Project inspiration is palable. Whe. I saw that guy in the basement, I Knew shit was going down

There is a
combat
in this game, since you find an
axe
hidden in the demo you can play around with. So people who are constantly comparing it to PT or Outlast should stop.

Seems like there are multiple endings.

I managed to escape the house with a big "welcome to the family" moment :D

But I didn't find the axe and I don't know how to use the dummy fingers.
A friend just told me that it's possible to answer the phone and there's a different ending.

I'm loving it. I love the whole aspect of everyone online coming together to try and figure things out. I'm really looking forwarf to hearing more about the game.

The couple swings I took with the axe lessens my fear of combat being odd. The swings felt fine, I imagine guns in the final game will feel fine too.

So far I've gotten these endings:
caught at the back porch after opening the door
caught after answering the phone upstairs

I don't know where else to go, or what this ambassador program thing is.

I watched a YouTube LP of the demo since I don't have a PS4. Honestly, I'm not crazy about this new approach. RE to me is a third person survival-horror-action series. This game feels like an Outlast or Amnesia, both of which I have precisely zero interest in.

I'll keep an eye on the game, but honestly this doesn't look like anything I would be mildly interested in.

The loose ends right now are

what do you do with the axe

what do you do with the finger

weird ghost girl appearances

locked door in hallway

barred door near the phone room

piano cover being open and closed

headphones

ladder disappearing

I like Outcast a lot but it is not like it... it is more action oriented... it really feel like RE.

It didn't do much for be to be honest. But I'll wait for someone to solve the mystery and see what we get before I totally right it off.

Who am I kidding? It's a resi game so I'll buy it anyway.

I had headphones on and the first time I went up the mannequin spot, heard a clicking noise in the middle, I think that activated something. Kinda want to reset and not go up

Axe is just there for you to swing around, you can't use it on anything.
Not yet, anyway. Curious what it is there for.
Lame. Hate it when games put things in and then you can't use it on things you would use it for. It's a demo though.
Yeah, can't say what it's used for currently as I can't seem to find anything to use.
Has anyone found out if turning off the sink faucet triggers anything?

I couldn't tell anything changing.

Loved it, had to remind myself it was Resi not Silent Hill

Resident Evil 2 is coming so why complain about the gameplay changes with 7? I mean I'll take this any day over the action packed turds that were 5 and 6.

People who are saying it's not scary, try to play it at night with the lights turned off, not watch a guy on youtube and miss out on all of the sound desgin then tell me it's not scary.

Shit! There's more than one ending? I "finished" it in around 20 minutes then deleted it. Guess I better download it again.

Really enjoyed that first 20 minutes though

Most think so. We have two items that we haven't found a use for and assume there is another ending.

I agree. Yes, I'm one those people who was all boohoo after RE4 was announced (never liked the Action approach). The teaser for 7 already has a lot of things I loved about the games (slower pacing, inventory management, puzzles, different endings rewarding exploration, great atmosphere). The only thing missing are cool enemies (please don't let it be all angry rednecks and too much Hills have Eyes) and combat. I'm very excited to see guns and other melee weapons as well as combat itself. The teaser played a lot like Outlast etc., but you can see that there will be more than only running away. Also hope that there will be larger areas that we can explore (like in the old games). For the first time I actually believe it when Capcom says they're going back to the roots. I'm excited and will be there Day 1.
Will be amazing to play this on PC with M+KB. Game looks great on PS4 and runs in 60fps. After the great performance of the MT framework engine on PC I have a great feeling about the technical aspects.

TL;DR Amazing teaser, thanks for going back to the slower pace of the originals. Good job Capcom.

Can you go down the hole after you watch the video or is the stairs always gone?

What is inside the drawer?

You can't go down the hole in the present day, only in the video. Also, if you are referring to the locked drawer, the axe is in there.

More than 1 Im 100% there are, I finished twice in complete different ways, others in the thread have as well.

Trying to figure out what other items and some doors/drawers have inside

Really dug it. Can't deny the influence PT had but at least we can expect something to actually come of this.

Will probably play a few more times, though I feel like I've uncovered what I can so far.

The demo felt like the beginning of older Resident Evil games, where you're just exploring before shit gets real. Really liked the details like how your character goes through doors in a way that looks like the old door opening scenes from old RE games.

The part where the demo really shines is when you find out stuff in the video tape from the past
can affect the present. Like the Scenario A/B stuff from Resident Evil 2.

About the story,
I wonder if The Family being mentioned is the same family Simmons from RE6 was the head of. Aka the Illuminati of the whole series behind everything.

Wait, wasn't Resident Evil a first person shooter at first before they change it? I guess they really went back to their roots with this one!

The first Resident Evil was early developed like a first person game but in the middle it was changed to 3rd person and released that way.

Thanks, also does the dude attack on random or is it scripted?

Scripted.
Once you unlock the door or answer the phone, he's after you

Edit: might as well mention the Resident Evil Community thread, linked in the GIF

Played multiple times
I even got the Axe and been in the attic
but this isn't Resident Evil, it just feels like a PSN title ripping off PT and Outlast and not a good one either.

Not if you have
the Axe
.

Not if you have the Axe.

What doesn't happen? You can cheese your way
from the phone to the TV, but isn't that just delaying the inevitable?

I beat the demo in about 10-15 mins and ended with a dummy finger, but never got the axe.

I enjoyed the playthrough I got. Nothing incredible, but still something very enjoyable. Even cooler to know there's more I missed that I can go back and look for. I'm totes down for the full release.

Eh, it was ok. P.T. was much better and this seems to copying that a lot.

I'm stuck though, every avenue I take I can't seem to be open the door. The most I'll get to do is get the fuse and answer the phone call and then it ends. I don't know what the mannequin finger does either.

Saying that though, I'd rather they went down this route than the stuff we got with RE 6.

I feel like there are two different phone conversations. The first one I got when i just went straight upstairs without the video. Said something like we know where you are. Second time I played the video section then went upstairs and I feel the convo was different.
