In the Microsoft Account or Skype Account section, weve added a requirement that you must sign into the Xbox Services at least once in a 5-year period to keep the Xbox gamertag associated with your Microsoft account. Weve also added that if your account is compromised, we may be required to disable access to certain content

Hopefully free up some dormant gamertags

I was forced to get some randomly generated name because of Games for Windows Live. Thankfully that DRM is now dead and buried.

Sadly I think I played Bulletstorm a few months ago so you will still have to wait over 4 more years to be called PaisleyAbyss and some random number after it that I don't remember.

You can log in on the web.

From the sounds of it, its just your gamertag. Your microsoft account (and your purchases) will be okay

If you really care about your name, it doesn't take too much effort to open up the xbox app or go on xbox.com

Gamertags is your public ID, a gamertag can be changed unlike PSN

If they have Windows 10 or the Xbox app on literally every mobile platform and sign in they SHOULD be fine.

Sounds like it. I jumped to PS3 when my 360 died years ago. Looks like my gamertag will be up for grabs. Oh well.

Its been mentioned like 3/4 times already, just your gamertag, it's to allow other people to use the gamertag instead of someone hogging it and not using it and if you're that worried, just log into xbox.com
