Will we ever fly on planes like BA in the A-team?

Flying long-haul is a pain in the neck unless you're in business class. Its all about economies of scale.

So why don't they just knock us out for the duration of the flight? It has a lot of benefits.

- save weight by not needing seats or food/drink
- save cost by not needing expensive entertainment systems etc
- cheaper tickets as they can cram many more people in
- better for the customer as you're at the destination before you realise you've even left!

I figure what they'd do is drug you all when you're at the gate, then load you into the plane using some kind of crane. If you imagine the plane was like a giant morgue, or those little 'pod hotels' in Japan you get the idea. They can fill the whole plane up, floor to ceiling. No need for overhead lockers as you won't need hand luggage.

Would anyone actually fly like that? If the ticket was cheap enough I might consider it. 24 hours mind-numbing boredom to Australia, or just have a little nap and wake up already there?!

You have a 1 in 10,000 chance of never waking up (ie - dying) when you are put under by anesthetics.

Anyways, the future of aviation is in incredibly high altitude flyers, I think. I saw a documentary about a plane they are building that flies like above the stratosphere or something. It can go across the world in like 3 hours or something.
