As long as it has haunting, howling, crawling, creeping, bleeding and/or dying anything goes! In other words: nominate the ultimate Halloween movie. (feel free to second other people's votes too. it's all about the demon-cracy👹)

The more suggestions, the better!

On October 1st I'll find out which 5 movies have been picked the most and post them here so we can all watch and discuss one movie every week. Imagine all the nerdy details/favorite scenes/scores/etc. you'll finally get to share!

(The goal of this thread is to select a small base of ulitmate favorites so we can watch & discuss the same movies together. If you want to watch more and don't mind seeing different movies than your fellow Gaffers, this thread might be better suited for you.)

I'm gonna kick the whole thing off by choosing the most basic pick ever. But you gotta admit... Halloween atmosphere has never been portrayed better than in

Some info about our MOVIE OF THE WEEK:

HELLRAISER (UK, 1987)
600full-hellraiser-co28qrd.jpg

Directed by: Clive Barker

IMDb says:
Clive Barker's feature directing debut graphically depicts the tale of a man and wife who move into an old house and discover a hideous creature - the man's half-brother, who is also the woman's former lover - hiding upstairs. Having lost his earthly body to a trio of S&M demons, the Cenobites, he is brought back into existence by a drop of blood on the floor. He soon forces his former mistress to bring him his necessary human sacrifices to complete his body... but the Cenobites won't be happy about this.

And now, let's monster mash!

This sort of thing deserves classics, so I vote Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Tobe Hoopers original not any of the inferior sequels or remakes.

I nominate the Crucible, hear me out, it's unconventional and clearly not a direct horror movie, but it scares me shitless every time I watch it.
The film plays on my most basic fear, stupid people do something stupid, get caught doing said stupid thing, the stupid people proceed to make up a dangerous lie to protect themselves and that lie ends up destroying many, many lives and destroying salem.

Nothing scares me more than selfish stupidity and the Crucible gets me like that every time. Also Day Lewis gives what's in my opinion the most underrated performance of his career in it.

If we're talking about just a Halloween horror movie, then either Trick r Treat or Halloween III: Season of the Witch.

If we're talking about horror movies in general, then I'll nominate my favorite: Hellraiser.

Funny bit of trivia, the original Halloween was actually shot during the springtime in Southern California.

whatever you see fit to spend your Halloween movie night with! Hellraiser is definitely a fine choice

We've had a thread for this six years running now: 31 Days of Horror 6 |OT| The October Movie Marathon

You don't have to watch 31 movies to participate.

^ who on earth can keep up with 31 movies. zzzzzzzzzzz
Apparently the same person who can't read 2 entire sentences? I literally wrote that you don't have to watch 31 movies. I just wanted to direct more attention to the thread because I enjoy it every year.

My pick:

It Follows is one of the best and most interesting horror movies to come along in years. It's stylish, compelling, and genuinely creepy.

In fact, I need to watch this again asap, so someone else pick it :p

The entire Friday the 13th series, including the remake. I know you said one movie, but they're all so fantastically terrible that it's hard to pick.

I actually just watched them all for the first time to get ready for that Friday the 13th game they're making. (Well, I'd seen Freddy vs Jason and Jason X, but none of the others).

For my horror film recommendation:

More of a love letter TO horror tropes than straight up horror, the main character is an absolute delight to watch.

I'm torn between

Trick 'r Treat is a better Halloween film, but The Thing is the better overall film. Also I'm one of the few that has seen Trick 'r Treat in theatre and it's freaking awesome with a large audience that screams and laughs both at and with the film. Such a huge blast!

looks like Trick r Treat is definitely making the list! I'd also like to second It Follows, amazing recent horror flick!

thx for pointing this out, I had no idea! I still think my thread is a bit different since it's way smaller in scope. the focus will really be on one movie for the week until we move on, not quite as big as the other thread. plus we'll all be watching the same movies for discussion purposes :) edit: thread is noted in the OP
Only five horror movies for the whole month?
one each week in order to make it work for everyone. if you want more maybe the post above may be interesting to you.

I don't remember that scene. Guess I need to watch it again.

Audition (1999)
audition-cover-11.jpg

Audition (オーディション Ōdishon?) is a 1999 Japanese horror film, based on the novel of the same name, directed by Takashi Miike. It is about a recent widower, Shigharu Aoyama (Ryo Ishibashi), whose son suggests that he find a new wife. Aoyama agrees, and with a friend, stages a phoney audition to meet a potential new partner in life. After interviewing several women, Aoyama becomes interested in Asami (Eihi Shiina), who responds well to him, although as they begin to date, her dark past begins to affect their relationship

It Follows is a solid pick.

My personal vote will always be either The Shining or Rosemary's Baby depending on my mood. For this thread, I choose The Shining.

That's not even the worst of it, lol. This is Miike at his Miikest
Thing is, gore and cringey stuff I'm generally fine with

Vomit I cannot deal with though. I genuinely can't watch Monty Python's The Meaning Of Life because of Mr Creosote. Like, I tried watching it once and started feeling really ill and was legitimately sweating. It's weird. I feel like it might have something to do with a ferry trip I was on once as a child in the middle of the storm and everyone was throwing up. Puke everywhere. Traumatising. Lol.

Though I imagine you may not have the same problem, what with your occupation, haha

The Thing (1982)

My friend showed me this movie 6 years ago, I loved it, and I hated the fact that it took me so long to watch it.

Ultimate Halloween...I'd go Trick r Treat because it's topic is Halloween in anthology so you get a bunch of cool stuff. Normally I'd be all over the Thing for horror lists but that's more of a horror favorite than a Halloween flick specifically. For an alt, Halloween is a good slasher flick but I'd be more inclined to vote Halloween 3 as a second.
