24 minutes of Yooka-Laylee gameplay from EGX

Almost unwatchable on mobile. Game deserves a higher quality video encode. The little bit I watched seemed really nice.

Game looks fun, but I really can't stand the look of the harsh shadows, and I guess the overall lighting. It makes everything feel weirdly sterile to me.

It looks utterly lovely and I can't wait to sink my teeth into it, but I still cannot help but shake off the thought that the game looks really empty - especially the grassy jungle area.

I agree. Leveldesign just doesn't look as tight as Banjo Kazooie.

A Playtonic employee claimed that they purposely withheld characters, enemies and other elements from the demo to prevent spoilers.

It probably should have been more clear in the video... we removed quite a few characters, enemies and challenges from this demo to avoid spoilers. It won't be as empty in the final game :)

Might be worth waiting for the Playstation Access version, since it'll be better quality. It was earlier this morning when it was live.

But yeah, this game always looks incredible. It is everything I could have hoped for!

Avatar quote likely incoming.

My goodness, that frame-rate

I really hope these fix these frame issues prior to release.

The framerate might be from the person who either recorded or uploaded the video. When it shows the developers talking that was a little framey, as well.

Did I watch the same video everyone else did? Game looks clunky, choppy and unoptimized. Camera and controls have come a long way since the N64, and it looks like they have no desire to keep up with the times.

Well, it is the PS4 version and the game was still ~eight months away at the time the build being demoed was compiled. I'd imagine the console versions are trailing a bit behind the PC version with regard to optimisation as the latter is what is being used for pre-release access.

I played it at egx and the frame rate IS pretty crappy. I'd say sub 30, but I'm no expert.

It's not out yet, though, so I hope they can optimise and improve. I can't see why not.

The show floor version on PC? It fluctuated between 30 and 60fps. I expect that'll be sorted.

Game looks fine. No one let framerates keep them from playing DK64 or the Banjos, so why are we being super picky now? Is it just because that's all we care about anymore? No wonder the industry isn't making more games like Rare used to.

Why on earth are they still using Unity engine? Because of Wii U?

Surely they could've used another engine like UE4 for all other platforms but Unity for the Wii U

Because it's not 1998 anymore and people's standards and expectations have changed?

I'm gonna be really bummed if the PS4 version of this is fucked.

You're aware that this is a recording of a live-stream, right? The Toybox demo seems to have run well for just about any and everyone. It's as if some of you all are just looking for reasons to be disappointed

Or maybe that person is concerned about the frame rate but is still interested in the game? It's as if that might be the case. Chill out.

True but it will probably run better on PC and PS4.

PS4 Unity games have ran absolutely horribly if the two games I've played are any indicator so I wouldn't hold my breath.

I'd say it's a safer bet to go with PC. I doubt the Wii U version will run better than PS4 though, likely it will be just as bad with framerate/stuttering

It looks like I want to like it but it just looks weirdly empty/boring to me.

But that's just me.

Played it this morning at EGX. Loved it. Brought a huge smile to my face, it's definitely a new Banjo but in the best way. A few noticeable niggles, e.g. camera, rolling movement felt a bit stiff sometimes - so some fixes to be made but there's still plenty of time before release.
