Mognet (WFC), in brief:
1) Add your buddy to your address book
2) Make sure your buddy also adds you to his/her.
3) BOTH of you have to connect to Mognet (check for messages, send a letter) AFTER both FCs are entered, to 'confirm' each other. You do not need to do this simultaneously. It just must be done by both of you, at some point after both FCs are registered
4) Once steps 1-3 are done, each FC will show up as confirmed in the other's address book. Numbers change from gray to white, IIRC.
*) Once you receive a message from a friend, their FC number in your address books changes to their DS alias (username).

NOTE: If your number is 29 or higher, you needn't bother adding me to your address book. Mine is already full with the first 28 people listed here. Sorry about that!

The same mom and pop shop right outside Brooklyn College's campus, that got me Gears of War CE last week on day 1, when all other stores in the area either didn't get the game, or only got enough to cover reserves. ROCK ON MOM AND POP SHOPS!

After you beat the first boss, speak to the crystal, and get warped out, make sure to turn right around and go right back into the cave. There are TONS of extra chests there (including 2 hidden ones right in the beginning) with all kinds of loot and equipment.

I've got Luneth dual-wielding a Longsword and Bronze Knuckles right now (in lieu of a shield) and he's taking out the early grunts like a champ! He's already level 5, and a level 12 Freelancer!!

FFV on hold bitches!

What do you mean by 'evenly leveled'? It's not quite like FFV where you can get all of your party members within the first 5 minutes of the game.

The official JP/US one? US release demands a refreshed thread without end-game spoilers and whatnot.

Cross-territory threads are bullshit anyway, unless the games launch together.

That's a surprise! And they sold out already? I guess they didn't get too many.

Edit - I was there today. At around 1:30 PM, they didn't have any.

Got the game today. Also got Rocket Slime.

Prob won't get to it until after the new year, the rate things are going.

6.5 Presentation

The storytelling is great, though the overall usage of dual screens is very slim. Though the game has a dated feel, it’s still classic Final Fantasy, which will be hit or miss for players.

9.5 Graphics

Stunning. Final Fantasy III looks beautiful, and the FMV work just adds to the already impressive visuals. It’s truly better in 3D.

9.0 Sound

The orchestral score is emotional and driving, though it isn’t the best of the series. The audio provides the necessary mood of the game, and it does great job throughout.

7.0 Gameplay

Final Fantasy III feels a bit dated, but still achieves the classic spirit of the game and is a ton of fun. The job system was deep for its time, but is a bit lacking by today’s standards.

8.5 Lasting Appeal

Along with the main game the DS offers moogle mail and new side quests. The battles can get stale, but the overall adventure could last hardcore players well over the 60 hour mark.

7.8

wow bomba total score... was expecting at LEAST an 8.5. il still pick this up tho after the abomination that was ff12

I dont get the presentation score so uh, becuase it doesnt use both screens all the time it should get a 6.5? I understand a 8 or something but geez really.

You`re right. You get them in the first 10 minutes. :P

So they`re faulting a remake of an NES game for being just that?

Man, you guys are going to love this game. I loved every second of the JP version.

I'm about an hour in and only have Luneth and Arc, the first two guys.

Oh damns. Ware the mines/caves in the 2nd (ghosty) town...

oh and this game is hard! the original version was very tough, you can get killed in normal battles.

Some things I've noticed regarding the job system:

1) You don't get job points at the end of a fight, you gain in job levels as you practice the job skills. For Freelancer (default) job, attacking AND defending will boost your job levels.
2) Once your party pads out a bit, don't set everyone to attack if only one or two hits will end the fight. This "wastes" the turns of those that don't get to attack, and they will job level up more slowly.
3) Gauge the enemies, set enough of your guys to attack as needed to finish the foes, and set the others to Guard.
4) Since Guard triggers at the beginning of the combat round, the non-fighting members will STILL boost their job levels at a more normal pace as compared to the fighters.

ROCK ON FOLKS!

you do? I thought the Capacity Points thing was taken out unless you are talking about something else.

Ah well, if you want to be able to cast higher level spells, or learn new attacks, you'll have to change jobs. Freelancers specialize in absolutely nothing.

Quite obviously, yes. It's not in your best interest to change jobs like mad ala FFV, but it is in your interest to change jobs, especially when newer ones become available.

Woah! I did not see this coming. I though FFIII will be one of the highest scoring DS games this year. Damn.

shit its out tommorrow! totally forgot!

BEST SURPRISE EVAR

EDIT: 1up gave it 8/10 :D

Gamepro - 4/5

EGM: avg of 7.83/10

Cubed3 - 9/10

Planet Gamecube- 6.5/10

Gamesradar - 7/10

avg score: 77.3%, but its definately not a general consensus, one of those love it or hate it kinda games.

And my opinion is that if you don't love it, you are a pussy.

You mixed up FFIII with Castlevania.

The western tower of Sasane Castle is a NICE place to level up your characters and jobs and gain some decent Gil. And you'll get your 4th party member minutes before, so the timing is perfect.

Edit - So many treasure chests in this game so far! I love loot!

Yea, the game is really generous with the loot, as long as you`re willing to search for it. Dungeons are very very quick if you don`t explore, but if you do, you are rewarded with some pretty sweet stuff, even early on.

Just remember that, unlike FFV, this incarnation of FF3 doesn`t tier the jobs. All jobs are fairly viable right up until the end of the game. Some become a bit useless later in the game, but most of them are totally useful. RK and I both played the JP version, and we used completely different party setups for the final dungeon.

Also, don`t bother using the NES FAQs for anything but dungeon map hints. The enemy and boss HP has been significantly pumped up, along with the amount of damage your party members deal.

Pretty much. Most people that panned it whine about the `old school difficulty.` Waaah, boo hoo. Cry me a river. you sissies.

Tell me about it. I have Luneth dual-wielding Bronze Knuckles and the Wightslayer sword, hitting 6x, and doing over 100 damage! That's more than my other 3 guys put together!

Then again, his Freelancer job level is approaching 20, and the others don't reach that number combined!

Awesome game so far!

I was so prepared at your point to stick with Freelancer, but there are some incredible benefits to switching to more viable classes. You`ll find yourself switching jobs just to check them out and see how they do in battle, You`ll actually be quite surprised how good each of the jobs are. I expected 3/4 of them to suck hard, relegating me to a small handful of useful abilities.

If you switch jobs, do you "lose" your progress in your old job? Or can you build up a huge set of skills, ala FFV?

can anyone sum up the downside of switching jobs? cause IIRC when i played the JP version and tried to switch some jobs i had some points taken away for no apparent reason.

You'll suffer a (temporary) stat reduction every time you switch jobs, as a tiny penalty.

That aside, I'll probably get it next week, along with FFV. Two fairly lengthy games to tide me through a two week+ trip.

So... you basically DON'T start out with all 4 of the kids in this remake? I guess that's a spoiler, but I don't want to know when you meet them all, just if you don't start out with all 4.

You don't start off with all 4 kids, no. But like FFV, it won't take long before they join you. It DOES take longer than in FFV though, where you basically get all 4 within the first 5 minutes.

Looked everywhere for it today, and all I got was "the 14th is the ship date come back tomorrow" looks like I'll hit up best buy in the morning.

I should've read the thread... but thanks! That's an interesting change, really. Ah well, I'm getting this on Sunday if it's in stock locally, otherwise I'll just order it online.
