Kimishima: 2 million Switch units shipped by FY's end

So 2M units at launch? The fiscal year ends in March iirc and they need to send the systems to the stores prior to it's launch.

That seems okay. Maybe a bit too ambitious for the time frame, but it seems doable.

That's also like 1/6 of the current Wii U sales

Even for a month I expected a bit more esp after the response

guess I was overestimating it. Still a games console I suppose, gonna preorder asap bc I think there will be shortages

Interesting choice of numbers for launch, though considering how well the marketing has been so far? If they have at least a decent launch lineup, I can see this happening.

FZZ, what kind of number did you expect? Since you seem to know what is 'good' and what is 'bad'

Kimi saying they won't sell it at a loss makes me think this will be a $299 device since I can't see it selling for any lower with the featureset it has

It's the current prediction (I'd say also quite cautious for now): it depends on when it exactly releases in March and on the demand once preorder starts. If the demand is higher, the FY shipments will be higher as well, as much as possible.

EDIT: Yeah, I can see Nintendo being cautious after years of missing forecasts, even up to the point of making possibly severe underestimates compared to the potential of their products (IMHO)

If it launches in the middle of March, then it can easily do those numbers, especially if Breath of the Wild is a launch title

Your misinterpretating these numbers. They are conservative for a reason, exceeding them would be great news for investors missing them is very bad news. The last thing Nintendo want a to do is miss their forcast for this

This means Switch will be released ww at least at the start of March I think? 2 millions before 31 march looks possible.

Unless they happen to have an amazing upcoming library, it's another Wii U at this price.

Yep, 2 mill not only seems doable, it seems reasonable. Since its not on the holidays I think Nintendo should be able to keep with demand if its a success. And retailers are going to be willing to stock without fear of units getting stock.

Its releasing with Zelda and the casual public actually understands what the Switch is trying to do, $299 is the highest price I'll go for, but it will move units.

That's fine, they should expect 3-4million by the end of april though, if they can only make 10m or so a year, it is going to be sold out all year, especially is january rolls around and Pokemon eclipse is shown for NS, there is nothing stopping that title from selling 10m+ units, and it will be very hard to find a Switch during that time if it comes.

BTW, Pokemon moved over to the unity engine right? so it's pretty simple to get sun/moon running on NS and then adding to it. This is partly why I think we didn't see a game reveal and only a teaser for the system that really just highlights the functions of the device rather than what people will get to play on it.

This is what happens when everyone says it will be $299 or $349. Nintendo stick to that price instead of going lower because apparently no one can see it going lower.

If they're stupid enough to price their device according to GAF reactions then they deserve to fail.

So Xbone and maybe PS4 slim will be cheaper by then.

You can already get them cheaper in stores, even if the official MSRP is higher.
