‘Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare’ (-55%) remains at No1 for a second week.

‘Fifa 17’ (+0%) moves back up to No2 pushing ‘Battlefield 1’ (-39%) down to No3. It means the sole new entry in this weeks’ Top 10 is Bethesda’s ‘Dishonored 2’. The sequel is down 38% on the original ‘Dishonored’, which launched on 360, PS3 and PC in 2012. Its arrival pushes another Bethesda title ‘The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition’ (-54%) down to No5. Several titles are boosted by retailer promotions this week with ‘Forza Horizon 3’ (+60%) climbing four places to No6 and ‘Overwatch’ (+144%) jumping eleven places to No7. However it’s ‘Lego Dimensions’ (+556%) who is the chief beneficiary with a huge sales increase propelling it from No37 back into the Top 10 at No9. EA’s ‘Star Wars Battlefront’ (+30%) continues its week on week climb up two places to No10.

Two other titles make their debuts in the Top 40 this week. The first is ‘Sword Art Online: Hollow Realization’ at No33. Finally Ubisoft’s VR title ‘Eagle Flight’ for PS4 lands at No39.

Going off the Xbox version of Dishonoured, I'd say the game was lucky that there was some co-bundles/marketing with the Pro to help it from being a complete disaster.

From the other thread

I remember that there were talks about if Dishonored 2 could at least debut selling 35,000 units and that those numbers would be embarrassing.

Well, I have Dishonored 2 in that range of sales (35,000 - 40,000).

Are my numbers correct, Kyonashi?

New thread will be up soon.

By the way, Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare second week drop is horrible considering that pathetic opening last week, without massive promotions and discounts this year Call of Duty will lose the battle against Battlefield.

The only tidbits I could find

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=495719

15/Oct/2012

It’s a hat-trick of weeks at the top for ‘FIFA 13’ (-63%), but newcomer ‘Dishonored’ from Bethesda debuts strongly at No2 with the biggest new IP launch so far this year (ahead of Sleeping Dogs).

Unless I'm doing my math incorrectly, Sleeping Dogs was ~52,600.

Dishonored should be somewhere around the 125k mark for the UK, which is great. I'd imagine the game is doing well on Steam as well. I know quite a few people who bought that version.

Try around half that. A great game but knowing the kind of money Bethesda tends to spend on marketing, I'm sure its not hit the numbers they would have forecast when it was originally signed. Victim of the times sadly but exciting to see a new IP doing so well in the circumstances

Also combined sales of Pokemon Black and White together greater than Dishonored. Xcom - PC version more popular at retail than the PS3 version

Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare vs Battlefield 1 will be interesting.

In the previous thread I said Battlefield 1 will be the winner in 2016 because I thought that Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare second week sales fell by 65%, but then GfK edited and the actual drop is 55%. Now I'm 50/50 because Call of Duty always gets great discounts and hardware bundles during Black Friday and Christmas.

This is the second week in a row that Activision PR team contacts MCV to emphasize that Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare is the best-selling shooter/action game of 2016 (launch-aligned). They are in damage control mode.

Week 44, 2016

Update:

Since the publication of this story, Activision has been in touch with the following statement about Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare's Week One sales performance:

"According to GfK, Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare is the No.1 shooter/action game Week One launch of 2016 in the UK. Our fans are loving the great campaign, deep multiplayer and ‘80s inspired zombies, not to mention the incredible bonus content of Modern Warfare Remastered. We look forward to a great holiday season and beyond.”

Week 45, 2016

Activision contacted MCV to provide this statement on the title's performance at retail to date: 'According to Gfk, based on retail sales for the first two weeks after launch, Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare continues to lead as the #1 shooter/action game of 2016 in the U.K. Our fans continue to respond to the incredible depth and amount of gameplay across all modes, including the bonus content of Modern Warfare Remastered.'

Looks like Activision were not expecting this. BF1 is pretty close to IW so they are probably feeling extra nervous.

IMO COD regardless will still the longer legs they get great discounts.

Also I assume activision anticipated this game not selling as well as BO3. Which is why they have the $80 sku which is a great value imo. We'll see.

Horizon 3 has been legging really nicely. Happy for it. Dishonored 2 sales are low, but that's not totally surprising. Many of us saw it coming.

The Battlefield 1 vs COD race this year is going to be very interesting to watch

Not surprised at Dishonoured. Game was destined to bomb from what I could see. Next up is Watch Dogs 2 with a huge drop.

Holy Forza Horizon 3. Still doing great.

Forza games always have crazy long legs, I don't think the last 2 have dropped out the top 40 until like a month before the next one comes out. It always makes me laugh when people say Forza debuts low, those games sell all year round.

Week 45, 2016
Has Activision ever reacted like this outside of IW? Quite amusing.

Looks like Activision were not expecting this. BF1 is pretty close to IW so they are probably feeling extra nervous.

Well, news about games flopping at their launches in the UK clearly can impact sales everywhere, especially during this time of the year. Titanfall 2 had that deep discount stigma as soon as the news hit, so very few people worldwide will be willing to pay full price for it immediately after its launch. These are self fulfilling prophecies waiting to happen. Not many people talked about the analyst(s) warning TF2 would underperform but everybody reported on the bad UK launch.
Honestly, if the bad news keep coming from the UK I fully expect publishers trying to put a lid on these kind of headlines because they clearly are damaging their products.

^^^ Those deep discounts for TF2 was in the US. I don't think it has gotten any discounts in the UK yet.
I think so, its starting to feel like at what point do we say the UK market has shrank, and these low sales are the norm, with only a few outliers selling more then last gen.

I don't think the market has shrunk cause the games that make sense to sell more, are selling more (Dark Souls, Witcher 3 [even only on xbox since TW2 was exclusive], Uncharted, Battlefield 1, FIFA, etc) . Most games that sell worse have reasons to be selling worse I feel.

Pretty much everyone in the past threads knew Dishonoured was bombing and gave reasons for it. The next game to do good will probably be Dead Rising 4 due to DR3 being a launch game + 4 launching around nothing else. Well and Pokemon and SMM, but I don't think those were ever out of the question :P

I just bought a pro from Tesco, which was bundled with cod and dishonored 2, for £360. Dishonored 2 is now oos. I think Bruno is right about COD going to be saved by bundles...

Really? i'm expecting both it and TLG to bomb due to being released in December.
I mean in comparison to what DR3 did (how much did DR3 do? :P)

I think it'll do fine simply because DR has a decent brand name and I expect MS to market it a bit as a last push in the lead up to Christmas. DR3 launched around like 10 other games and a console that was just new on the market.

Watch Dogs 2, Pokémon Sun / Moon and Final Fantasy XV are the last big releases of the year.

[Week 46, 2016] WATCH DOGS 2 (UBISOFT)
[Week 47, 2016] POKÉMON SUN / MOON (NINTENDO)
[Week 48, 2016] FINAL FANTASY XV (SQUARE ENIX EUROPE)

Here is a comparison with previous entries.

[Week 22, 2014] WATCH DOGS (UBISOFT) - 388,000 / NEW
[Week 52, 2014] WATCH DOGS (UBISOFT) - 768,359 LTD

[Week 48, 2014] POKÉMON OMEGA RUBY / ALPHA SAPPHIRE (NINTENDO) - 145,000 / NEW
[Week 41, 2013] POKÉMON X / Y (NINTENDO) - 124,000 / NEW

[Week 10, 2010] FINAL FANTASY XIII (SQUARE ENIX EUROPE) ~ 170,000*
[Week 13, 2010] FINAL FANTASY XIII (SQUARE ENIX EUROPE) - 235,000 LTD

*Estimation based on second week drop (-80%) chart placements in 3rd and 4th week and actual GfK Chart-Track cumulative sales number after 4 weeks.

The next game to do good will probably be Dead Rising 4 due to DR3 being a launch game + 4 launching around nothing else.

Final Fantasy XV, The Last Guardian is not nothing. Also launch games typically sell higher than normal due to not a lot of games to choose from, so that's not a good qualifier for a mid-gen sequel to do better.

DR4 is only on Xbox. TLG is PS4 exclusive and FF might aswell be too (wasn't type 0 like 80%+ ps4?). I don't really count exclusives, I don't think there's that many people with both consoles to cause the sales to be hurt that badly.

Thing is this is the UK and pretty much every preorder came with a free copy of FIFA 14. After spending £430 on a console I can't imagine people going out to pay £40-£60 on another game when they already got FIFA with it which is pretty much all everyone here plays anyway :P I can't see launch week of DR3 sales being high at all but maybe I'm wrong

Uh, TLG can be considered nothing. That won't be a big release by any stretch.

I don't know about launch week, but DR3 has done 2.1 million LTD and I'd say a lot of that is by being a launch title. You only need to look at Killzone Shadow Fall or Knack to see how launch titles sell a lot higher than their real sales potential.

Dead Rising 3
Release : Nov 2013
Platform : Xbox One, DL
Units : 2.1 million units

http://www.capcom.co.jp/ir/english/finance/million.html

Dead Rising 4 does not look like and has not previewed like a game that will do better. We can do a bet if you want ;P

Uh, TLG can be considered nothing. That won't be a big release by any stretch.

Neither will DR4. I'm in a betting mood: TLG will sell more than DR4 :D

Dead Rising 4 does not look like and has not previewed like a game that will do better. We can do a bet if you want ;P

Neither will DR4. I'm in a betting mood: TLG will sell more than DR4 :D
DR3 shipped 1 million in 5 weeks. http://www.capcom.co.jp/ir/english/news/html/e140122.html

I'm not saying DR4 will be big. I have zero clue as to how much that will do, but I think it will open bigger than TLG. Not betting anything though, just a simple "I guessed right".

Uh, TLG can be considered nothing. That won't be a big release by any stretch.
What is a "big release"? I mean, there is a ton of space between "TLG is not nothing" to "big release".

Edit - I'll say TLG will do better than DR4 as well. We see how sequels have been performing and it is Xbox exclusive.

I don't know what they did (KZ or Knack) but I could see them selling better than a game like DR3 simply because the Ps4 was £80 cheaper and came with no games.

Edit: Nah I don't want to bet LOL, I'm just guessing. A lot of it depends on how MS markets it but considering it's release date I think it'll get a decent sized push and probably retailer-bundled with all consoles.

The Last Guardian opening better than Dead Rising 4 sounds a little crazy to me, however at this point I have a serious feeling the hype for Dead Rising 4 is close to zero, so I would not bet money on that offbeat confrontation.

Neither Ico nor Shadow of the Colossus had reached 100,000 units as of June 2010.

These games were much more popular in the US, specially Shadow of the Colossus which sold 1 million units.

[Week 38, 2010] DEAD RISING 2 (CAPCOM) - 66,000 / NEW
[Week 47, 2013] DEAD RISING 3 (CAPCOM) ~ 30,000 - 40,000 (I can't be more precise but that is a good ballpark number)

For first week, that's a deal :) Even though DR4 has an advantage being Tuesday worldwide release with TLG a UK Friday release in the same week.

Almost 50m PS4's in the world compared to 26m+ XB1?

I think TLG 10 year hype will make it open better than DR4 non existent hype.

Well shit, that's higher than I was expecting lol. But I was thinking around 40-50K for DR4.

I think he's talking about the UK where the consoles are relatively close in sales.

Just the U.K. DR4 will open to at least 30k. Which is in that same ballpark as Quantum's break and ROTTR

TLG is getting nowhere near that. Mainstream don't care about that game at all

I didn't consider the worldwide situation actually, I thought this was about UK ^^

But as a whole, I don't understand how Capcom can expect to ship 2 million units of this game (for March 2017) without a PS4 version. 2 million is what Dead Rising 3 did in 2 years and its launch game status certainly did a lot to that (it was my first Xbox One game anyway).
