Anyone else getting UPS delays?

Throughout the past week, ordered a bunch of stuff from Amazon and Best Buy. Got some of them but now I'm getting notifications about delays for reasons like "a late trailer" or "Due to operating conditions" (whatever that means) and stuff that should have been here by now is taking extra days or there's no current info available.

I'm used to bungling from them and the post office already (in fact they can't find a package one handed off to the other), and UPS CS says they got more packages than they were anticipating so stuff is getting delayed. I understand they're gonna put in more work during the holidays but sheesh.

Yep, ordered 4 ps4 games from Gamestop and got the same notice . But i don't mind since they will be working their butts off for the next month

Yep. Was suppose to get an item yesterday that was delayed until today. I've been sitting at home all day waiting.

Its holiday season and they are underpaid and overworked while people bitch at home on their computers

Yeah you guys should see the madness that goes on in their warehouse. Unsafe work conditions and trust me your guys packages are getting treated like shit and it's really not the workers fault. They are so over worked they have to cut corners. they are getting more than double the normal amount of packages right now.

They are cutting every corner imaginable and still can't keep their delivery guarantees.

GF ordered an unlocked Samsung Galaxy S7, that was supposed to be next day overnight with signature confirmation.

Package came a day late, was dropped off at 9PM, with no signature. Tracking updated it to show it was delivered at 11:48PM with a falsified signature.

Yeah. I'd cut them more slack due to the holidays but they fuck my deliveries over consistently so over the year i've become less and less forgiving about it and more and more wishful that Amazon Prime had an option to choose your preferred carrier.

Unless you need it or paid extra, give them a break.

Shipping and logistics sucks and they get paid very little.

Merry Christmas.

Underpaid? For a warehouse job, you can't really expect to get paid much. Dunno how it is at UPS, but they've got a union. I work at FedEx Ground, and we got a $2 raise for the holiday season this year. Work is pretty much the same, more hours, more pay, rules regarding working overtime are less strict.

But yeah, it's the holiday season OP. Plus, this is the week after a holiday week. Playing catch-up with freight we missed on our day off, plus all that extra freight that's to be expected this time of the year. We can only do so much.

I really want to know what you guys expect manual labor wages to be.

Yup, my release day copy of FFXV got delayed a week cause it made a wrong turn somewhere and ended up on a plane trip to the UPS hub in Memphis. Package shipped from the local So Cal Amazon warehouse to Memphis and is now on its way to me in So Cal...

Do you load trucks? how much do you get paid?

feel like this happens every year between thanksgiving and xmas. shit just gets crazy for them and they have no way of predicting it.

I can't even get amazon to ship anything I ordered last week. I've already received all of my packages from best buy, but amazon loves to sit on stuff if you're not a Prime member.

UPS is the fucking worst, there was one time where my package was late and when I went to call about it they said the address that I lived at doesn't fucking exist.

And then there was another time where they left computer parts I ordered out on the porch with so much as knocking on the door 😤

Working for an e-commerce company, and hearing about dealings with shippers, this is just hell season for them. Thanksgiving to New Years is just an insane amount of volume, and it blows out their infrastructure, every time.

Every effort is made, believe me - the vendor is often compensated when delivery promises are broken, so it's not in FedEx/UPS/etc's favor to fuck it up.

fwiw, they do it too if you're a prime member and close to some of the hubs -- just a little less. they do it just enough to try and meet their guarantees as best they can. i've had them wait a day before shipping overnight and things like that.

The workers never got paid what they were worth and the holidays have always been hectic yet service has become shittier.

Black Friday orders going out, plus a crazy fire in the Tennessee area which might be causing issues.

If it's not a gift or anything you need immediately, don't worry about it. You'll eventually get it.

My amazon purchases that said they would be delivered between yesterday and next Friday haven't even shipped yet... wondering if something is up

Not yet though I ordered two things from American Giant and the estimated time for UPS Ground is 4-7 business days. I usually get my stuff in that timeframe or less.

Yeah weird things are happening

Amazon itself is saying that it won't be delivered until Dec 6th for this one package.

There's being behind and then there's sitting in a distribution center 5 miles away for a week. Just how overwhelmed are they?

I unload, $15.50 an hour, but I would make $16.50 an hour if I went full-time. Minimum wage here in Oregon is $9.75.

Both full-time and part-time employees also get health insurance.

That's a perfectly fine wage for an unloader.

Same job at Wal*Mart would be like 20 cents more than minimum wage.

Well yea what do you expect after Black Friday, Cyber Monday, and everyone buying Christmas gifts

They probably saw your Amazon thread and said 'Fuck it'.

Apparently my GF signed for a package that we never had to sign for, and was delivered at nearly midnight while we were sleeping.

Nothing really, had a mechanical delay earlier this week that delayed a UPS package by a day, I assume a truck broke down.

I love this time of year when the UPS delivery people breakout the golf cart with the trailer, I get my packages at around 11am instead of 7pm.

I sort of have the same thing going on. I ordered Ratchet and Clank and Rise of the Tomb Raider on Bestbuy.com on Black Friday and Ratchet shipped out the next day but Tomb Raider is still at the "Your package is ready to go and awaiting UPS pick up" or something like that on Best Buy's site.

Nope. got a 3ds and it came 2 days earlier then original scheduled time. My copy of FFXV arrived on time as well.

But if there was a delay I would understand, we just got of like a holiday shopping weekend.

Okay, I feel like I'm pretty much the best fit person on here to respond to this thread as I've worked for UPS for 16 years, inside the building(as a loader and management), and most recently and currently as a package car(delivery) driver. I can really only speak to problems in the Northeast, as I do not know whats going on in the rest of the country.

We are currently unbelievably short staffed. We are supposed to have 60 driver helpers for the center I deliver out of, and we currently have 10-15. The preload(the operations that loads the brown trucks) is also horribly understaffed. On a typical day I should be leaving the building to start delivering around 9 AM, but because the preload is so behind I'm not leaving until around 9:45-10AM, and thats usually without all the packages I'm supposed to deliver that day. Also it's not from a lack of trying to hire people, we have been handing out flyers, hanging door tags, and have advertisements on radio/tv/web. We will literally hire anyone with a pulse right now, but people just don't want the job.

Cut us some slack, we are working our asses off out there.

It sounds crappy, but I guess UPS should perhaps try to sweeten the pot and offer decent compensation? FedEx around here has a bevy of signs looking for seasonal help, and they seem to be able to keep up with their deliveries. Hell, today I had 2 FedEx trucks make deliveries to my house today.

The lady who contacted my GF with her UPS issue, late delivery, forged signature, etc said that they are 2 days behind schedule. I'd be willing to believe her, if it wasn't for the fact someone is scanning packages out for delivery when in reality they are still in holding.

Yeah my ire isn't at the regular UPS employee. Obviously they'd probably try to hire more people during the holidays to keep up with the additional demand.

But I did assume UPS was just trying to "get by" with their current staff to maximize profits...so I'm glad to hear they're trying to hire more folks!

I'm guessing working for the USPS is more desirable also because haven't noticed any issues with them...yet.
