Rez Infinite's physical release by iam8bit is a mess

Quite a few fans of Rez were looking forward to this release and seemed to have been stung by incompetence and poor quality.

First was the exorbitant shipping costs, mainly for UK customers who were charged $16/£12.50 for a game that ships from the UK (for reference you can send a game for about £1-2 depending on class). If you emailed them to complain you would be offered a 50% rebate, which for me was a red flag.

Next came the delays, it happens but that extra time will mean they can get the product right, right? Also the theme and avatar codes that come with the game couldn't be redeemed, not sure if this was a Sony/region thing though.
Here's the cover they use in their pr, it states art is not final but it's still being used on their site:

These discs should have been sent back imo. Please be wary of this release!

Disappointed to hear quality issues like that, after so long a wait :(

If it helps a little, I've whipped up some alternative replacement inserts using some asset captures and concept art. This is completely unofficial, something I was putting together for myself that I thought might be better to share.

I've also recreated the original iam8bit cover without all the advertisements.

I'm not sure I've ever heard anyone utter a good word about iam8bit. Sucks for everyone who ordered one, glad I resisted buying the soundtrack.

I wonder if they had to put the VR stuff on there because of the deal they made with Sony to print those off. The rest of it just seems like the average PS4 game release these days, the bare minimum and not much else.

I live in NA, I never received a code or any updates as a matter of fact...

Edit: I do see now I received codes for the theme, avatars and the digital music...

I'm so glad I don't care about soundtracks or vinyl

When it comes to games, these guys hopefully shouldn't get a lot of future contracts

As a physical release of a game, I guess this is fine. As a collector's item it's complete garbage

I don't get it, is it that little vr sticker in the corner that's bothering you? It's literally identical to the pr shot. And I'm very sorry about your lack of a reversible cover..

the whole point of a limited physical run of an otherwise digital only game is to make a nice object.

shitting it up with terrible design defeats the purpose. If the distracting bit in the corner was mandated, an internal optional cover should have been provided. The people buying this game on physical media don't need the PSVR advertising because they already know what they are getting; this is a cover that makes sense in a shop, not for a collector's edition.

that aside, I've never heard anything but awful stories about iam8bit, constant delays, sketchy promises, unsatisfying results... at this rate people should stop ordering anything from them.

I didn't realise iam8bit were so bad until I'd already forked out for Rez Infinite. Feeling a bit bummed now.

Probably won't be buying from these guys again. I just hope my copy arrives soon...

I always thought it was for low budget titles to get into the hands of people who either didn't have internet access or would rather physical copy. But obviously these guys have a bad rep.

Would have been hilarious if the VR thing on the bottom right was the version that said "You'll need these."

Yeah, the handling of it has been a mess. I kinda wish they hadn't taken orders for it so early. Props to them though, for letting us know a physical version is coming (probably saved some people from spending money on digital). Also props to them for releasing a physical copy, something, even late, is way better than nothing. Then again, if iam8bit didn't get it, we'd still have probably gotten it from Limited Run, Rising Star, Fangamer, or somebody.

Can't say delays were unexpected though. That track record. v_v

I agree, don't see how that's a big deal. It looks pretty normal for a PSVR game...

That's Sony guidelines for all PSVR enabled games and mandatory. Not iam8bit's fault.

That's fair enough. I thought that these limited releases didn't need things like age ratings but I guess that doesn't extend to everything.

I do think it should have had a reversible cover for a collectors/limited release edition though.

These PSVR icons on the box are practically ads that are supposed to make people aware of and sell PSVR units. They have no place on a collector's item that's exclusively sold online to the core audience. This isn't a game that someone buys, plays, drags through dirt and then trades it in again so it doesn't matter. These are bought for collecting or appreciation because you love REZ and should be treated with respect.

If it's mandated by Sony there should be a reversible cover without the ads on it. IMO every PSVR game should have a reversible cover without that garbage.

Aren't these the same people that still haven't sent out the PC collectors edition of no man's sky?

I had to get my credit card company involved to get a partial refund from those cowboys. Would not recommend them unless you are really desperate.

Returns/Cancellation policy very unfair towards their customers. They do not want to know.

AVOID.

So is the theme the same theme I've had for about 2 months because I got it off of the Japanese PSN?

Also, I just realized that the last update I got was Iam8bit letting me know that the music rights for this games soundtrack are fucked basically. What I didn't notice before is that same email said something like I should have already received a download code for the game... which I have not.

For the game? I don't think any copies come with a code for the game

They didn't offer any codes for the game.

Yep.

Look up caveat emptor in the dictionary and you will get iam8bit lol.

Pretty much! They appear to be getting better but I wonder how much damage was done. They have a few releases that ACTUALLY shipped on time for...what I think is the first time ever (Rocket League and Undertale).

Their No Man's Sky Explorer Edition (the one with the metal ship replica) still hasn't shipped out even though they claimed to have them in their warehouse a few weeks ago.

They get a lot of stuff that people want but I think the lesson here is the same as people preach in traditional game threads. Don't preorder. Wait for it to be released and available. The amount of actual iam8bit releases that sold out as soon as they were announced is super slim.

Stop buying stuff from iam8bit. They took my money for the NMS Explorer Edition and still haven't delivered the product. Multiple emails to them and I've basically been given the finger by them each time.
