Which 2017 games are many hyped for but you feel will be a disappointment?

I feel like RE7 and Horizon Zero Dawn are two games that fall into this for me. People are hyped and excited now, but I'd be willing to bet these turn out to be decent games at best. I think they'll both have enjoyable moments. I'm just not sure there will be enough there to justify a $60 purchase. I know it's just a demo, and someone can correct me on this, but aren't people getting many different endings with an hour or two of playtime in RE7? I really want Prey to be good(and be a good port for PC for that matter, but after Dishonored 2 idk)as well.

It feels like there are a dozen indie Metroidvanias+2D Dark Souls-likes coming out in 2017 and I'm just hoping at least one or two will be great. But you know there's going to be some disappointments there.

I feel the same for Horizon: Zero Dawn, I'm exited for it but I fear it will either suck or just be an "Ok" game.

Same. Graphically it looks amazing, but I feel like it will be another let down. Not to mention we dont know much about it yet other than destroying robotic dinosaurs with a bow and arrow (game logic?). Maybe once we know more i'll change my mind about it, but for now, its a no from me.

Breath of the Wild. In the hours upon hours of footage released, the only interesting bits were condensed into 30 seconds worth of gifs. I literally watched a 20 minute video where all the player did was run around in an empty field and climb these random structures.

Persona 5

Horizon zero dawn for certain. The main appeal is the visuals but nothing of the gameplay has convinced me it will keep me entertained from start to finish. Persona 5 is on the opposite where it has had good reviews from imported copies so I'm not worried at all about that game being disappointing.

Yeah lol

I mean, to be perfectly honest, it seems a lot of gamers enjoy doing that these days. I've been guilty of hopping into these open world games and doing similar things.

Yooka-Laylee. I actually think it'll be a good game, but it won't be able to live up to the expectations of many.

My answer would have been Bloodstained, but I'll now save that for the 2018 thread.

Mass Effect: Andromeda for sure

Ooooh, I may have to change my answer! Yup, I'm changing it. That's definitely the one.

I go in wanting to enjoy them all, I only feel disappointed if when I'm playing it is, but no I don't go in expecting disappointment from any game I'm looking forward to.

Judging by the latest trailer: Mass Effect Andromeda

Also Scalebound

I'd say Mass Effect: Andromeda, but I feel that people still hyped for it after ME3 and the trailers for Andromeda are going to be satisfied with it.

I'm not feeling Horizon: Zero Dawn at all. I want to like the setting, however I think I've reached the point where I can't help but view a world designed around the incongruity of marrying an early period in civilisation with advanced, futuristic technology as trite. On the flipside, Styx 2 is flying under the radar but is what I'm looking forward to the most, with the possible exception of AssCreed 2017.

Horizon. Got a feeling it's gonna pull a Mafia 3 and just give us a lot of busy work instead of meaningful and thoughtful objectives.

I feel the most x-factor around mass effect

Not sure it will be disappointing, but seems like the most likely possibility RN

I fear that Zelda will have some complains about its open-world similiar to MGSV and FFXV. There probably is gonna be a bit of criticism from the game I imagine and people might be disappointed.

Edit:I guess you can say any game coming out next year that's focusing on big open worlds.

Edit 2:ok yea Shenmue 3. Oh boy out of any game I have absolutely zero faith this will be good, an empty promise of something like that.

Persona 5

Did you read the thread title incorrectly?

That sounds like video gaming hell to me.

Judging by the latest trailer: Mass Effect Andromeda

Critics will fall over themselves to praise it, just like they do practically every other Bioware game. Everyone else will have hugely divisive opinions, with a large subset tearing the game to shreds. I expect Mass Effect 3 all over again.

Mass Effect Andromeda. I'm hyped for it (as for every Bioware game), but I expect a lot similar quests and open world segments filled with collectibles like in DA:I. Might be a disappointment

Horizon for me too. Looks really good from trailers, only I can't be totally sure of the quality of the final game because Guerilla is involved.

I played all Killzone and the only one I've really enjoied and consider to be great is the PS VITA one. I never played the PS4 ones anyway, because I've still to buy the PS4.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

With very, very few exceptions, I have a strong distaste for open-worlds. That being said, I love the Zelda series, but I've never really seen the games as being open world or aspiring to be open-world games, even with Zelda NES. That being said, I'm still hyped for BotW because it's Zelda, the combat looks pretty improved, and the game just looks straight-up gorgeous, but in the back of my mind I think I know there's a good chance that I'll reach the same point of disappointment that I have with most other open-world games wherein I struggle to navigate and find my way around the game's world to the point where I can't even enjoy the game.

Horizon = I smell lots of collectibles and Ubisoft gameplay
Mass Effect = 5% RPG, 75% Shooter, 20% Dating Sim with an underwhelming cliffhanger story

Breath of the Wild has looked incredibly boring in every trailer. It wouldn't surprise me if its very meh.

RE7 will be terrible just like RE6. Not sure why people think capcom is capable of making a good RE anymore.

Halo 6 will continue the downward spiral of Halo games campaigns, but will look visually incredible on the Scorpio.

Destiny 2 is going to be lacking content again and require starting over from scratch.

Halo Wars 2.

The Beta was a huge disappointment for me. Didnt feel at all as good as the Original title.

Scalebound.
I know the gameplay will be good because Kamiya but the world looks bland and most likely will have a paper thin story with shallow characters.

I do agree with your Halo 6 thoughts. That game could end up being the best looking console game ever made on the Scorpio.

I worry that the answer might be Marvel, and I really don't want that to be the case. Same goes for Horizon, actually. Two of my most anticipated games but can't shake the feeling that they're not gonna turn out great, despite my hype.

Yep. Horizon

I dont trust GG as far as story building and creating some mystery in an open world goes

Im also of the mind that I DONT want the mystery of that world fully revealed because I dont trust GG to do it well

For comparison, TLG's world building and ultate story fills me with such wonder an amazement. big shoes to fill, but its the best example i can think of. Other open world games like skyrim do a good job too I guess

Not sure how combat will go or how challenging the game will be either. I can only hope they prove us all wrong and finally shed that Killzone skin that seems to have stagnated their team after KZ2

Breath of the Wild could have the Star Wars syndrome: Everyone will lose their minds the first week as the best game ever made but after that they'll just place it at the middle of the pyramid.

Edit: Regarding Horizon, everyone is so ready for a disappointment that it might just be an average game and no one would be disappointed.
