The Official "How Awesome Is Assault Heroes" Assault Heroes Thread

Extraordinarily awesome, is the answer by the way.

Its out and, contrary to what Alkaline Black might have you believe, not that easy.

Just got past the first boss and was summarily pummeled soon after the first Secret Underground Level (and, oh, HELLO LOADED REDUX). Those Rolling Explosives? They mean business.

Set up Co-Op Love here.

XBLA is back.

ETA: I have not yet tried Co-Op stizz. Any impressions? Lag fest deluxe?

Anyone know how many levels are in this? I was very disappointed with the demo. The controls feel sluggish, and even on "hard" there wasn't really any challenge. I don't consider myself to be great at shooters either. (but I do love 'em)

It could be fun in co-op, but if there's only a couple of levels, I'm probably not going to bother with it. :(

:(

Just say it. "You stink at videogames, dude."

I...I can take it.

(No, but seriously there were like eight zillion enemies down the road from the first boss. How on Earth did you survive?)

You think you suck? Well, I can't beat(survive) the demo for Geometry Wars.

Anyhow, this actually sounds really fun, I'll probably nab it, hope some co-op happens.

From the XBLA thread...

Sooooo good. Beat the demo and immediately bought it. Love it to death.

Also for this brief moment I am #1 on the worldwide easy leaderboards. Oh yea!

Buy it. BUY IT!

EDIT: Also Serious Sam style screaming kamikaze men = Win and Awesome.

WAHWAHWAHWAHWAHWAHWAHWAHWAHWAHWAH!!!

This is the exact reason why it's really not worth it. Assault Heroes is, quite possibly, the easiest game I've played all year. . and I just got done playing a Lego game that practically plays itself for you.

It's designed well, but **** if it isn't an absolute bore.

What?

The demo isn't even an entire zone, its just a small part of the first zone. The full game will take a few hours to trawl though according to IGN, and I for one love it! Best XBLA game since Geometry Wars and Mutant Storm.

Don't assume I haven't played the full game.

and

I really, really, really doubt it takes hours to beat Assault Heroes, unless you're trying to play with your feet and the TV is off.

Disappointing... I was interested in this game, but if it's really short and easy then I guess I'll skip it :/... For 500 points I would have definitely bit. I'll still try the demo though.

Really? Because according to your gamertag you haven't even tried the demo. But please, continue trolling.

As for the length, you realize that other games in the genre like Ikaruga, Ikari Warriors, 1942, Raiden etc... can all be finished in under an hour? Those were all full priced games in their day, this is $10.

1) I've played it at three seperate events for more time then you've probably already dumped into it using your credit card.
2) PartnerNet. Numerous Occasions.
3) Stop trying to justify your microtransaction, stfu and accept the fact that someone has a different opinion.

They all also provided a challenge that made them last for hours beyond the initial spam run. I've dumped over 40 hours into Mars Matrix. I would never want to do that with Assault Heroes.

The game isn't THAT easy but it's not very hard either.

Got up to what i assume is the last boss on my first single player run on medium, ended second on leaderboards by a 1000 points :lol

But man the game is ****ing fun, it's very well designed and it looks gorgeous. Fun bosses too! For 10$ i think it's definetly worth a pickup!

I've been doubting to get it, but how easy is the finished version anyway? I've already played these games:

- Geometry Wars
- Smash TV
- Mutant Storm: Reloaded

Is it safe to say that all of them are much, much more difficult than Assault Heroes? If so, then I probably won't buy it, even if it does have online co-op.

I find assault heroes to be a successful and enjoyable title for live arcade.

those of you that look for an ikari warriors style game, look no further.

It's pretty fun. I don't know why but the entire screaming enemies and nuking them all at once just had the classic GTA 2D sillyness feel to it :lol

I only tried the demo, I think I will pick it up in the future. (I want to get Double Dragon first...when is this one coming btw)

DAMMIT, I swore to god I tried to find a thread for impressions of Assualt Arms! Once again I have to double post!! >:(

Man, I'm just got into work almost an hour late because I had to play some Assault Heroes. NO way in hell I was justgoing to download it and just leave for work. To hell with a demo, I knew I was buying this over a month ago.

This game ROCKS!! I think it's one of the best products to hit XBLA to date. I love this game the control is damn near perfect. I lve the fact that if you get hit and lose your vehicle, if you can hold out for a bit of time, youe vehicle will re-spawn and you don't loose a life or your power-ups! This is just AWESOME, adds a degree of pressure to the game when you're in a tght spot (i.e. in a boss battle you loose your vehicle, you're white knucklling the control to hang on to the shread of hope that you may get your rig back and be in a better position). After playing so many retro titles, I was actuallyl surprised how long the levels were. After I beat the spider boss I was sure I was going to power down the console and head off to work, then I was like..."What?! There's more to this level?!" getting out of the vehicle to grab stuff, and the "on-foot" bunker missions are very cool. I was going to try the co-op, but I running late. I got a couple of friend's request for some co-op action..but I knew better. :P But this game will be on my mind all friggin day, I know the online co-op is just going to be sweet indeed. Two Acheivments before breakfast is a good way to start off the work day. :lol

Maybe I was focused on my combat to much, but I didn't notice any frame rate issues as someone stated above (not anymore that has been seen from any shooters in the past arcade and home). The visuals are fantastic, and the sound is crisp, i thought for sure those cannon shots were going to wake my wife this morning. If you're a twitch gamer and a 'shmup' fan like myself, don't sleep on Assault Arms, you'll hate yourself if you do.

Besides..all XBLA demos are free...what's the risk?!

Finished the first level without dying too. How many levels are there?

Wish you could move a little faster and I don't like how the flame thrower overheats (part of the fun of the Mercs flame was having it in front of you all the time as you moved) but this looks to be worth the $10.

alkaline black, I was ready to consider completely ignoring your claims... until you mentioned Mars Matrix. EASILY the best shooter ever made, and sadly not mentioned much - especially here in Gafland.

Come on Capcom, release Mars Matrix on XBLA, hell, release it on ANYTHING. I will buy it. Eco Fighters is fun on Reloaded; but give me the MATRIX!!!

As for Assault Heros. I had a blast with the demo, I want to support games like this. Cool weapons, great art, fun levels. Sold. More please. I will wait until I can get through on hard before saying it's too easy.

Damn, I loved the "your score is money" replayability of Mars Matrix. I am shocked that noone has coppied this idea, it was brilliant. We replayed that game SO MANY times. first for lives, then continues, hell then just for the silly pallets. I get the right side!!!!

Judging by his homepage, I believe alkaline black is stating fact.

Doesn't the game have three difficulty settings? For those complaining it's too easy, have you tried the harder settings?

I'm pretty stoked for this game. All the videos look really fun. I should be able to haul myself upstairs today to download it. (Had knee surgery on the 1st and am just now getting moving again.)

it's 'salright. I cant stand when your vechicle has to re-orient itself, makes the whole thing feel disgustingly imprecise.

Luv it reminds me of so many of my old amiga top down shooters.

Add me for some mamoth co-op sessions GT: Gowans007

Looks like I'll be buying this later today...
or on my lunch break...
.

Doubt I'll be getting my co-op on tonight, as it is GEARS OF WEDNESDAY, and I also have the allure of Viva Pinata to fight off finally (its so good).

Fun game, though the controls can be frustrating at times. The 70% accuracy and <50% enemies killed achievements are proving to be fairly difficult.

Not bad. It IS a lot easier than usual for this sort of game (particularly because you often have a chance to sit there and wait for your shield to recharge after taking down a wave of bad guys) but it's still entertaining. Good bosses, too.

Anybody finished it? How many zones are there total?

SHOCK! This game is so very awesome.

It is such a nice surprise too... hadn't even heard of the game before Monday.

Looks so great in HD too. Like, really good. Tons of awesome special effects. Great bosses. Can't wait to try multiplayer.

It's just the perfect little game.. perfectly priced. I really couldn't be happier.
