Share you BLAST FACTOR strategies thread

I think it's necessary to create an official strategy thread for this very UNDERRATED game. Whoever owns a PS3 should have this, bottom line. This game is crazy. It's pretty deep as well, and takes some serious skill in the later levels.

Here are my main strategies.
STAY in the middle of the dish by all means.
Combine your slow-mo blast (R2) with the tilt to manage it out of rough spots.
Beating each specimen (8 levels) without losing a life will double your points made on that level... Use this to score massive points.
Let your blaster recharge by letting go of the stick every so often... This is necessary when surrounded to make it out of tight jams.
Keep the GROUPED enemies at a FAR distance when you shoot them, because they will explode and send individual cells in various directions (this can be hard to see if you're up too close, resulting in a loss of life).

These are pretty basic strategies... :lol more to come soon.

often the game will quickly surround you with those cell-looking things. the trick here is to blast straight towards one side and do the wave in the opposite direction. this way you create a tunnel and all the enemies get herded on the other side. Time for chain points!

In the bonus rounds, hit the shields. It slows everything down and makes it easier to hit the targets.

And yes, Specimen survival seems dependent on not getting killed at all during a specimen.

:) Good call on that one.

And survival is key to getting big points. If I die at any time in the first two specimens, i quit immediately. And if it keeps happening, I stop playing altogether, because i just get frustrated.

Same here....

MAN those GREEN cells are SCARY... that noise they make when you move the SIXAXIS is creepy... then they all rush you... Those combined with the PURPLE cells are a hard combination to kill....

Hmm...

Chaining really helps you defeat the big enemies. Usually just 3-4 surrounding them will kill off one big enemy. Also, killing one big enemy in a swarm of them will kill off the others provided that they are close enough.

Didn't know about that recharge thing... I was wondering why my rate of fire decreased over time.

Anyone know how to easily defeat the boss? Does chaining help? I noticed that sometimes I beat it really quickly but I don't know why/how.

I usually kill the boss within 2 turns (1 in the earlier stages)... As soon as the center opens, have your blasters fully charged and ready to fire. Then when the cells come out for defense, fire your slow-mo-wave, and keep firing at the boss' center. That usually handles him pretty quick. The tilt isn't really effective in boss battles.

Do you lose points for using the slow-mo or can you just abuse it?

I really like the game but I think they borked the damn tilt function. I haven't had any Sixaxis problems with any other game but it's really inconsistent in Blast Factor for some reason. Half my deaths are usually related to the tilt either not responding or going in the wrong direction.

I don't believe you lose points for abusing it. But you should save it for when you need it (whether it's to kill enemies or to save yourself). All the multipliers are shown at the end of the bonus round so you know where you need to excel in. The one that is bizarre for me at least is the hit-miss ratio. Everything else seems doable, but if the highest is 100%, I don't think that will ever happen for me.

The tilt works well sometimes and not so well other times. I found that when I held the controller differently, it worked out better because to me, it felt very awkward to hold it in the usually position. You actually need to use the tilt quite a bit in order to get the high chains at the beginning (less so down the road).

Whoever is #1 in ranking is... unbelievable. I don't know how you could achieve something that high. I got to rank 14X and I thought I did pretty well until I looked at the top 10.

I'm now ranked #163 in the world.

Sorry thebishop, had to pass ya today. Hypo... your record ain't safe buddy :lol

I'm coming for ya!!!!!! *wario laugh*

I find that holding the controller flat in front of me helps when tilting. I have a tendency to lean one way or the other and then I find myself accidently killing myself with a wrong-sided wave.

Also, I can sometimes kill a large group (or string) or enemies with what seems like early shots which sets off a chain reaction. Does anyone know what I'm talking about?

Oh, and those goddamn star-fish things can only be killed by splash damage. I was shooting those things for what seemed like forever until I figured that out :(

One thing that I thought helped in the later levels is that you are invincible for a small amount of time when the round starts and when you respawn after dying.
