Has anyone seen a Wii U specific Zelda BoTW Review??

Sorry to make a thread but the others are so busy I cant find an answer. Every review I have read is based on the Switch version, and I want to get it for Wii U. I know the visuals are pretty similar but was looking for reputable information about the performance. I only have the basic Wii U so will need to delete absolutely everything in order to fit the 3gb update on I assume?

Triforce me if thread not allowed.

Nintendo didn't send review copies out of the Wii U version IIRC

That's a bummer, but I get it. I'm thinking of getting it for Wii U at some point like the OP, and performance is a main concern for me, too.

i don't think many reviewers will care to do a review for wii u before doing the switch review (best version) There will be, but later on.

I've been playing the Wii U version for 2 days straight. Ask me anything you want.

I played the first hour and the framerate was surprisingly good after trying the switch version at the events, which left me a bit annoyed.

Does it get worse after the first hour? How much worse?

I played it on gamepad and didn't get to try it on TV. How are you playing it? Does it make a difference (I was thinking maybe they dropped the resolution when streaming to the gamepad).

I assume it's the disc version and not running off USB or SD.

Is it better/same/worse framerate than the Switch footage that's out there? By how much?

It's worse. The game varies between 25-30fps 80% of the time when I'm roaming around but expect some bigger drops when engaging multiple enemies in the overworld. Also, there's a specific area in the game that slows the performance to Blighttown levels of fps.

That said, I'm still enjoying the heck out of this game.

If you own a Wii u I would still pick this up. It's not like the Switch has flawless performance either (especially in TV mode) so you'll have to deal with fps drops anyway.

Expect the same level of performance throughout the game but there are areas where the fps tanks like crazy.

I'm playing it on my 720p plasma and it looks great considering the hardware. Not sure if they drop the resolution when playing on the gamepad but you get streaming compression anyway right?

Thanks for this.

This is good to know. Thanks a bunch!

Oh well... I played Majora's Mask on N64 back and forth. I can handle the fps drops for the Wii U version.

Hmm, thanks for that. I guess it's to be expected but at least its consistent most of the time.

I don't understand the whole streaming compression bit because IF they dropped the internal resolution for gamepad only, that would improve framerate I'd imagine.

TBH it would make sense to drop the resolution for the gamepad since that screen is only 854x480, though it didn't look THAT low of a resolution, it actually looked good. Not sure...

Thank you. I will deal with this since it's the only way I have of playing the game.

Cemu pls save us

Unrelated to the Wii U version specifically but is there some sort of checklist for getting 100%?

I haven't seen any progress percentages but the game does keep track of your unfinished and completed quests.

Indeed. It's actually why I went with the Wii U version, I know I'll get to play this in glorious 4k in a few months.

The video comparisons with the Switch version aren't that far apart, so happy I can play this on the Wii U.

This. Both versions suffer from framerate drops anyway. Unless you really need to play Zelda on the go I don't think it's worth getting a Switch. This game deserves to be played on a big screen, it's gorgeous.

I think you only need DF analysis video (which is not released yet)

I'd rather subjective reviews in the context of someone sitting down and actually enjoying the game. The hard side-by-side comparisons aren't as useful to me. Do you know how bad I can make OoT look if I compared it against an emulated version at 60fps?

Has anyone heard whether DF are putting anything together immanently comparing Switch Wii U? All I've heard so far is that Nintendo hasn't sent out Wii U code

Question: Is it true that if you change the resolution settings of your Wii U to 1080i or 720p (instead of 1080p) that you get a noticeable framerate boost and/or fewer <30FPS drops?

The game on Wii U is already 720p, I don't see why changing to 1080i or 720p would change anything.

So you'd prefer a subjective analysis to an objective one?

Sounds like you just want someone to confirm your expectations rather than telling you the truth.

Can you confirm that you can play this game with the Pro Controller only? The dpad of my Gamepad is broken, so I can't use really use it for this game.

Doesn't the game run at 720p anyway? I wonder what this would affect performance wise..?

Lol Wii U reviews.

It plays the same as the Switch version but at a lower resolution with darker blacks. Go buy it.

It's not the same, it runs worse than the Switch version, when DF does its analysis on the two, everyone will notice the difference. Panning the camera around in certain dense areas would make it stick and "ghost" further than needed, lots of pop ins but, I installed to the system memory and things ran a tad bit smoother. Not sure if there is a difference playing on the tv vs playing on the gamepad though.

Fuckkk

I keep fluctuating between going with the Wii U version and buying a Switch tomorrow lol

Don't have a Pro Controller, sorry :(

I don't see why you can't though. This game has literally 0 gamepad features at all.

If you have some expendable cash, go for it :P I'd get one myself but the only stock available here is a ridiculously overpriced bundle with Zelda and 1-2 Switch (I rather have these games in digital, not cartridge)
