Last week's bumper week consisting of Switch console launch, ‘Zelda Breath of the Wild' and Sony's ‘Horizon Zero Dawn' carries on this week as we welcome a further 4 new releases, 3 of which debut within the Top 6.

Exactly one year after the record-breaking ‘Tom Clancy's The Division' (still the biggest launch within any Q1 on record), Ubisoft now debut at No1 on the All Formats Top 40 (Units) with ‘Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Wildlands', the biggest week 1 launch of the year so far. In terms of week 1 debut units ‘Wildlands' is No2 in a very long list of Tom Clancy games, pushing Ghost Recon stablemate ‘Future Soldier' down from No4 to No5 in the Tom Clancy games week 1 sales pecking order. The aforementioned ‘Horizon: Zero Dawn' for PS4 only drops to No2 having claimed the record of top-selling launch week game of the year so far - a record that lasted only 1 week. The second big new release debuts at No3 and is Warner's budget-priced ‘LEGO Worlds' for PS4/Xbox One.

Nintendo drop 2 places to No4 with ‘The Legend of Zelda: The Breath of the Wild' and Rockstar/Take 2 drop 2 places to No5 with ‘GTA V'. Debuting at No6 is Square Enix's PS4 ‘Nier Automata', which topped the Japanese charts a few weeks ago. The final new release within the Top 40 is Nintendo's ‘Mario Sports Superstars' for 3DS at No37.

I'm really surprised Wildlands is the biggest debut of the year.

I haven't heard anybody talking about it. There hasn't even been any hype for it on Facebook like there was for Horizon and Zelda.

Shocked that Zelda is still so high up, its still pretty much sold out everywhere in the UK other than a few places asking full RRP for it.

Given the success of Far Cry: Primal and The Crew which both did really well, I've learned in the past two years that Ubisoft games has a strong appeal to a crowd that isn't really vocal on online communities.

Of course, big games like Division enjoy both, but Wildlands always felt like a game that will sell very well even if it doesn't capture the imagination of audiences to the same level of Horizon or Zelda.

Horizon must have done well for itself to outsell all the Lego Worlds SKUs combined in its second week.

Or Lego Worlds just did really shit for a Lego game, there's that possibility as well I suppose.

Also, I had no idea Wildlands was out. Ubisoft are barely on my radar these days it seems.

I don't think the shooter crowd is as vocal as the Nintendo crowd or others etc

People like multiplayer and co-op shooters. They see one is releasing and they buy it. There's no need to have massive discussions about it for months at a time

Plus a lot of people played the beta

Also something like mass effect is gonna come and blow the doors off of everything else releases this month and it has less hype than your zeldas or Horizons

Impressive showing by Nier. I thought it would have done much worse. Wildlands was to be expected after the beta numbers. Good hold by Horizon and Zelda.

There is indeed a pretty big audience for non competitive cooperative shooters. I hoped devs did notice after Destiny...

I have no idea if Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Vegas 2 is now the 3rd best selling Tom Clancy game, it sold over 125,000 units in its debut back in March 2008.

Nier: Automata seems closer to Nioh rather than other recent niche games such as Tales of Berseria and Yakuza 0.

Those that picked up a Switch without it probably are going to pick it up at RRP based on the reception. Plus, if they have friends with it, it is one of those games where you don't want to be left out of the conversation. It's been ages since I've had a game where I've talked to friends about it and they've said "Within 5 hours I went and found this" "Woah, I've played for 50 hours and not found it, where is it?".

That combined with what else are they going to play will probably keep it in the charts as long as the Switch sells up until Mario Kart in April.

Yeah, feels like Sega and Namco tried some steps to break from the niche and get more eyeballs on them in small, but measured ways. Feels like Square Enix haven't done much of anything.

Surprised that Zelda stayed so high considering stocking issues of the switch and the game. Fantastic game though, so very much deserved.

Pleasantly surprised that Nier charted so high too. Looking at Amazon sales ranks I didn't think it was going to chart as high as it did. Will pick this up when I'm finished with Zelda.

Mario Sports SUperstars would have done so much better as a 3DS/Switch cross platform release. The thirst for games on the latter would have driven sales, no matter the quality of the game.

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
I thought Nier could've been higher in the charts >_> Not a bad opening though, hopefully it sells well enough to be considered a good success from Square even outside of Japan (where it is, indeed).
Actually surprised to see stuff like 1-2 Switch still this high, despite the reports of the console's scarce availability even in UK. Didn't expect to see Bomberman either, even if it dropped several placements, since on Amazon.co.uk it's been sold out for the past week.

I think it is the exact other way around: TOB bombed to high heavens, while Nioh did pretty well. Seems like Square is the one who figured out how to escape its niche and get into a slightly bigger niche.

I think Zelda and Horizon have done quite well in their second weeks. Are we gonna get some metric for Switch sales in the second week? Perhaps GI.biz have some kind of scoop like they often have?

Yeah, that one. Yakuza didn't seem to get close to niche though. Just had a good first week and sold out.

I don't understand why people were underestimating the sales of Wildlands. A lot of people including me love co-op games to play with friends and there hasn't been any for a very long time.

With Ghost Recon, we finally get to play something that's fun and gives enough freedom that we can create our own fun moments.

Here's hoping that other developers take notice of this as well and create more co-op games in the future.

Horizon drop seems lower then what id have thought. Mid week release, Singleplayer only. was expecting at least 70% so that's good news.

Not going to lie I expected gr to bomb, I was hoping it would so it would price crash like watch dogs and steep. No one I know is playing it either which is odd.

Loads of people on my friends list on Live were playing Ghost Recon over the weekend and its had the biggest TV presence of any game I can think of this year.

Another Ubisoft hit might be on the cards.

I expected it also. But then i saw on the Xbox store all 3 versions of the game in the top 5 downloads this week. Guess the general audience digs it. Guess it ticks all the boxes.

Splits this week

Ghost Recon PS4 52%, XB1 48%
BOTW Switch 60%, WiiU 40%

via videogamer

Completely forgot about the Wii U version, explains why its still high up when the Switch version is out of stock pretty much everywhere

only a 60% drop with an extra 2 days of sales in week(weds release not Friday), and being the number one the week before.

Sony gots to be happy with that performance, looks like they got another uncharted like game to hang around the charts, probably bundle it for holidays in a cheap SKU to extend the legs.

Yeah typical drops.

I wouldn't say that about Horizon's drop. A typical drop for a midweek release, an SP only game especially, would be in the 80's, so it only dropping 60% is a fantastic hold.

Did we get a more precise 1st week estimation than just >NMS? It should be around 200k now?

That is true,I don't think its 200k yet though.
