SEGA at Epcot's Innoventions

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XihzO5TGOOw

Did anyone in the 90s get to visit this for themselves? It is incredible to think of the influence Sega had on video gaming in the early 90s. I would have loved to go to something like this and it's the first I am seeing/hearing of it.

Watch the video, it should give some of you seasoned gamers some chills...

It was a very cool little area, I was greatly saddened when I went there and it was gone.

I remember it did show off how much garbage the Activator was, no one could get it to work.

yeah I live in orlando so I got to go to this pretty often.

was neat since all I had was a genesis and so this is where I got see 32x and saturn for the first time.

Wow, I really wish I was able to be there during this.

I really wish we had more events and locations like this still, I could imagine the atmosphere being almost dream-like

I KNEW I remembered playing videogames at innoventions when I was a kid. Always had this nagging feeling whenever I'd go back to epcot later on and being disappointed when it wasn't there.

I went there when they had the Saturn there its how I first played Sonic R but the area was so loud you couldn't hear the music so the second time I played it on PC a year or so later I was baffled at the soundtrack.

Shit! I was there at around that precise time during summer holidays. I remember seeing virtua fighter for the first time and being completely floored. My parents had a really hard time prying me out of there! Haha

I visited this when I was pretty young (born in 88) and remember thinking it was pretty cool. Was the first time I saw Sonic & Knuckles in action, and I played through Mushroom Hill Zone for as long as my parents would let me. I never owned a Genesis as a kid, but was really into Sonic because of the cartoons and comic book, so the memory stuck with me pretty well. Almost as well as getting to meet the Ninja Turtles, which was obviously the other highlight of that trip. I met the Ninja Turtles yall!!!!

I saw this video a couple days ago. Its super rad and brought back so many 90s memories (one of which was all the times my mom would take us to Sears and I'd stick around the game counter playing the SNES and Genesis demo units). I went to Disney World only once as kid around '94 but my brother only took my to Magic Kingdom. I'm so bad that I never got see the Innoventions exhibit. :-(

I only visited Disney World once in my life, 13 years ago, and I remember that. Full of genesis games. It was a dream, even when I was a Nintendo fan back then.

dude innoventions was incredible.i remember playing virtua fighter there and a shitload of sonic games.

they removed this a while back and it's funny how i converted old vhs home videotapes the other day to blu ray and i was at innovations

the world works in mysterious ways

I remember visiting this quite a bit when I was younger. It was where I first played Sonic Shuffle and Sonic R

That's pretty cool. Do you have any videos you would be willing to share by any chance?

I just posted about it a couple days ago :P

Best "arcade" in a Disney park was definitely Innoventions in Epcot mid-late 90s when it was practically a mini Sega E3 booth. I played a Dreamcast for the first time there the summer before the NA release.

Hard to find pictures though.

Unfortunately at the time we went down to Disney World one day at a time and were hours away, I never had the time to just spend the whole day lost in there.

Awesome to see pics and video of this.

I went on my honeymoon in 1996 (hadn't been since 86) and remember digging it as a Sega fan. Went years later and was like "where's all the Sega stuff?"

Glad it's captured in some way.

The first time I played Fighters Megamix was at EPCOT! My family did not give me a lot of time to stick around and play other games, through.

It was one of the most amazing things when I was eight. I wanted to spend the whole day there but apparently my parents and sisters didn't consider that a worthwhile way to spend a Disney visit.

Yesss! One of the most amazing memories from my trip there in second grade (1995 - 1996) was finishing 1-2 with my older brother on the Virtua Racing network they had. Haven't watched the videos yet, but I remember it being 4-8 machines hooked up all with a full Indy-style car setup.

Other highlight from that trip: peeing my pants on the Tower of Terror.

Edit: found a tiny picture of it. It was 8 machines.

I remember seeing Kolibri running there and thinking the game looked incredible and not understanding what the hell you were supposed to do in it.

Yeah, remember playing Virtua on on arcade and my ass handed. Didn't play other arcades because token cost was ridiculous.

Console stuff was pretty packed, but played some Saturn and dreamcast games. Some hover skate game that sucked, walked past shenmue several times as it did not interest me. Virtual fighter 3 or 3tb was there but only training mode. Sonic R was there and I remember thinking where the fuck is a proper sonic game.

In case you are curious, in recent years Xbox has been the representative console brand in the future-fair halls at the Disney parks, albeit with a far smaller footprint than what we can see of the Sega zone in the images in this thread. I'd forgotten how big their presence remained in the years after the Genesis/Mega Drive era.

Yeah I got to visit this in the 90s... twice I think, 1992 and 1996, assuming it was available then, definitely in 96. Was a great thing back then because it allowed my parents to get drinks at the world showcase, and then the kids to pretty much occupy themselves in a closed in area for an hour, with an older sibling watching us.

Watching the video, man I remember so much of this.

i remember seeing early footage of sonic 3 being shown from here on some promo tape as a kid.

wanted to go so bad.

This was the best thing ever when I was a kid. I never wanted to leave that exhibit. They even let you test the SEGA channel which was the cable service that let you play Genesis games... SO COOL! This is how I first played Virtua Fighter on Sega Saturn (import) and I also got to try the 3DO as well. Gosh... what a time to be a young gamer.

I remember this, was there on one of our holidays to Florida. My main memory of it was getting to try Chaotix on 32X before it was really even known about in the UK.

I remember going there and playing the Dreamcast before it launched. They had Sonic, NFL 2K, and Shenmue playable. It was mind blowing at the time.

My family visited Epcot in 98 or 99, they still had Sega Model 3 arcade units all over the place. 2nd time I tried VR (I believe it was Motorola).

Pretty sure it was 99 because I was interested in comparing Sega Rally 2 VR to my home Dreamcast version, but I did import the DC in late 98...

Oooooh this is bringing back bad memories for me....

Went there as a teenager during the 90s and some 8 year old kid wrecked me at Title Fight, the sega boxing arcade game. He could barely reach the controls and just waggled. I was trying to play properly and was utterly destroyed. I still wake up in cold sweat to this day

I did! Just so happened to be going on the one and only time I've ever been to Disney World. I spent so much time playing games. It was amazing. My parents couldn't really afford to buy me a genesis at the time (my aunt bought one for me for Christmas the next year) so I remember playing as many games as I could while I was there.

Yup I was there in the mid-90s. I still remember they had a Indy racing arcade setup with like 8 moving cars. I actually have a video of my brother and I playing it (horribly). There was even a lady on a microphone commentating while the races went on. It was pretty cool stuff.

Yup this was it.

I'll look into our home videos and see if I can get a video of it.

I visited the exhibit in 94 and 97.The first time I remember seeing Stimpy's Invention and Barney's Hide and Seek. When I came back they were all up in the Saturn promo phase and I got to try Baku Baku, Bug Too and Mr. Bones.
