Thanks to Kyrios for the OT banner!

Nice. Thanks hip hop. Subscribed. This is a great game. Hopefully more people will notice and it will get the attention it deserves. The load times are incredibly bad though. Just unbelievably bad.

Nice, finally an OT!

Come on PC users, lets hear those reviews!!!

Sorry for typos and grammar mistakes.

I consider myself as an big Codemasters fan and Dirt 2 is still my favourite racing game,i'm still playing it on pc time to time.I played Dirt Rally for good 50hours on PC while this is not much and i'm not a sim racer i'm not terrible at it considering i'm playing with gamepad.Anyway i was super excited about Dirt 4 because Dirt 3's handling suits me better,Dirt Rally is too brutal for a gamepad user and Dirt 3's minimum asist handling is sweet spot for my taste.

I bought Dirt 4 for PS4 Pro even though i have a GTX1080 i thought with Pro patch it'll look close to PC and it doesn't.

Since PS1 era TOCA games this is first Codemasters game that i lost my excitement, and i lost it after 3-4 hours of play.

There are couple of problems i'm going to try to explain;

-First PS4 Pro specific issue where IQ is in my humble opinion; bad.Game needs a proper AA implementation. The image looks jaggy especially some stages looks really bad i don't think Pro version downsamples to 1080p.Trees looks bad, lighting looks cheap but i'm sure maxed out PC version won't have these problems yet seeing a wasted PS4 Pro power hurts the impression.

-Authenticity.I don't know how to explain this but if you put Dirt 2 and Dirt 3 on one side and Dirt 4 to the other. You'll probably think Dirt 4 developed by b-tier Codemaster team aside from it's handling.Yes the Career is better then the Dirt Rally, creating and managing a team is good but it's not as good as Race Driver: Grid a 2008 game from Codemasters which IMO nailed it this stuff. There is something about Dirt 4 i can't find the right word in English to explain,it feels "cheap" comparing to Dirt 2 and Dirt 3 hell even OG DiRT.It's predecessor Dirt 3 was a proper AAA game, from its menus, musics, fonts, announcers, elegantly designed career path etc.

-"Gamer" handling. While i was not terrible at playing Dirt Rally i was not great either as i said Dirt 3's handling is sweet spot for my taste but this new gamer handling is nothing like Dirt 3.It feels artificially easy it doesn't have a flow like Dirt 3's arcade racing system it's more like some hidden force doing things for you. It's really hard to describe it but it's not fun at all.

-Boring,bland stages with somewhat uninspiring graphics. This may going to sound bold statement but for me aesthetically graphics in Dirt 3 looks better then the Dirt 4.Take Dirt 4's higher poly cars put them into Dirt 3 with some high res textures you'll have much more pleasing, polished look than D4.Dirt 3 has all kind of different landscapes, beautiful lighting, interesting stages and a great color palette.

I don't think this is a proper Dirt 3 sequel i'm going to play it no matter what but it's obvious that Codemasters lost it's work force over the years they still know how to make a racing game but their attention to detail is much lesser then before.

Buggy and disappointing so far. I can't set up my Fanatec Clubsport v2 pedals because it inverts my throttle and brakes and sets it to 100% in game. I've re-calibrated and looked in the ini files but haven't been able to fix it.

I tried playing briefly with just the keyboard and on simulator settings it was super easy to control with just the keyboard. Nothing like Dirt Rally. The grip was waay too high and the cars had little weight to them. So far very disappointed in the game.

No VR support, no handcrafted rally stages, and buggy controls.

Dear God, I think I've never seen a game being so divisive like this one. For some, it's brilliant. To others is a huge disapointment. For some, it has a handling improvement, becoming even more realistic than Dirt Rally. To others, it's worst and less realistic. For some the graphics are nice, and improvement over Dirt Rally. To others it is a downgrade.

And I'm here like...

Me too, I'm still undecided as to whether or not I want to buy it. The Steam reviews are just as divisive, I mean they are all over the place! For some the game runs flawlessly on the PC, for others it crashes at the main menu, and then others have huge frame drops. Some people love the track generator, others feel like it doesn't have enough variety or detail in the stages. Everyone seems to really like the career mode, but is that enough to put DiRT Rally aside?

I don't know what to think right now.

I think I'll just wait a few days to see where it levels out at. For now I'll just keep on enjoying DiRT Rally, which is my absolute favorite rally game ever made. And maybe I'll buy DiRT 4 if enough evidence can convince me it's worth it.

Really, really not a fan of the generated courses. Luckily I'm still not sick of Dirt Rally.

I was initially very excited about it, but I'm starting to become indifferent to it. The generated tracks feel so lifeless, no interesting or novel complexes or turns, and within my two hours of game time, I start seeing the same turns over and over...many times ill see the same complex 2-3 times on the same damn stage. I may be refunding it

Ok, played a bit more dirt rally. Dirt 4 definitely has more grip. The handling, while similar, is superior in rally. And rally's courses are better. Still, I do like the track creator and new content. Definitely love 4, but it's a mixed bag.

Great, thanks for the OT and all the info.

After reading all the opinions, I'm here at work waiting for my game with some kind of awkward caution.

PS: loved Dirt 2 and 3, haven't played rally.

Is it worth buying if I have Dirt Rally and still have a lot of races to do and cars to unlock? Does if offer anything significantly new?

I'm conflicted about this. I loved Dirt Rally, but I feel like I never played it enough to justify moving on. On the other hand, I might want to pick it up for the arcade mode for when I just want to play leaned back in my chair with a controller instead of being all serious with my wheel.

Maybe I'll wait until they start talking about a VR version.
Is this more like Dirt 2/3 than Rally? Rally was super difficult for me.

Both. You can choose arcade or simulation mode.

I'm enjoying it. Part of that is of course because I got it for like 30€ from the digital Argentinian Xbox store which makes this feel more like an add on for Rally.

Sim mode definitely feels more forgiving than in Dirt Rally. I wouldn't necessarily say it's worse or less realistic, but smaller corrections are easier to handle I think.

Omission of hill climb is odd because Pikes Peak was just amazing in Rally.

I also really like that you are easily able to switch the handling mode. I play on sim for rallying and then switch to arcade or whatever they call it for landrush, rallycross and joyride.

Anyone have problems with the Hyundai R5 pre-order bonus not working? I would assume you would be able to get the car for free in your garage for your team but that doesn't seem to be the case. Or does it just add the car to the game?

I loved 2/3 but also found Rally pretty difficult and couldn't really play all that much of it. That being said, I'm enjoying 4 a lot. It has different handling options and, to me, feels a lot more like 2/3 than Rally.

I was also confused about that. From what I read, DLC adds the car to the game and you have to buy it with credits.

I love Dirt Rally for the rush it gives me even though I'm still learning the tracks and car handling.

Will wait before buying this, but seriously considering G29 with pedals and using joystick as a brake.

Damn, no buy then. Problem is, if this game bombs they'll now think no one wants rally games anymore.

Hope someone finds a way to add tracks to Dirt Rally (or replace the existing ones) then we'd have our (near) perfect Rally-game.

Nobody else finding the shadow pop-in extremely distracting? I'm running it at 1620p60 all settings on Ultra and it looks....just OK. But the shadows - tree shadows just appear right in the spot where I spend most of my time looking.

Those that played it - should I buy it, or try to finish Dirt Rally? All of a sudden it got very hard, like from ending the races in Top 3 I'm now unable to finish the stages at all. Apart from that, I really love Rally - the stages, cars, sound, graphics, challenge. The lot.

Having a look at what I wrote above, I think I should try finishing Rally and then buy 4 in few months, when it's cheaper :)

4 is really easy. And I mean really easy for someone who did good in Rally. I'm playing on the tough difficulty or whatever it's called. The highest that is unlocked from the start. When do you unlock fearless mode?

I didn't finish Dirt Rally and i love Dirt 4 - it is way more easy.

I play on AI 2/4 and almost all driving assists turned off + H-Shifter with clutch.

I can go offroad and still get first place. Maybe I have to turn up the AI one step.

Pretty annoying that the game doesn't set the gearing/clutch in tune with the used car. Dirt Rally did that. So it is always H-Shifter and clutch right now - even though the car has sequential in real life.

Nice OT, HipHop!

Fack this was exactly my concern. The tracks in rally were so lovingly crafted. I don't get it - just because you have a track generator, why use it for your main tracks? :(

Wait am I seeing this right that there is no indication what kind of handling people use when checking the leaderboards?

i loved rally, never played the mainline dirts. so far i have only played for around 3 hours and finally unlocked my beloved lancia delta integrale.

- dirt4 sim handling still feels quite good, but is also more forgiving than rally. rainy courses are not as difficult as in rally. fog is brutal in dirt4.

- only played the michigan championsships, which are honestly quite ugly. why did they put them first? (first impression and so...)

- the course generator is a pretty good idea. i can see this as a game changer for the online leagues, as you can not memorize the courses. this is rally!

- unfortunately the generated courses lack the distinct character of dirt rally. miss the old tracks already. i doubt these generated tracks can reach a similar diverse setting like monte carlo, but lets see...

- i really like the new menus and presentation which is quite a step forward compared to rally

- i also like the improved team managemt which feels motivating to me.

- could not care less for land rush and buggies...

overall i am really enjoying the game, but lets see if it can reach my 130 hours of dirt rally. also need to launch rally again for a more direct comparison.

Unlike most here, I'm a fan of dirt 2 and 3 but didn't like rally very much.

My main problems with rally were: tracks are too narrow and the top AI times were quite good even on the start of career.

The first problem remains, so I have to drive safe, which means I'm losing time. I can still win, but it isn't fun for me.

So, I thought Land Rush and Crossrally would be my favorite modes here, but having to race everything twice is boring and it seems like there is some rubber banding.

tl;dr dirt 4 landed in a place where it isn't as fun as dirt 2/3 and at the same time not as challenging as rally.

This is a problem many game developers continue to struggle with - if you set out to appeal to everuone, you'll satisfy no one. Really think codes would have been better off separating dirt from dirt rally, and alternating releases

Recently picked up Dirt Rally for PSVR, I don't think I could play this game on a flat screen. It is so good on the PS4 Pro PSVR, I mean you can see distance, look into turns, see all the dips, crest, jump and more. And, this is my first Rally game, so learning the lingo was a challenge, more so than learning the handling of the vehicles.

What is up with the blurriness of this game? I've been playing a lot of DiRT3 lately and immediately noticed it.

Also, I was getting stuttering on my 1tb ssd with D4 for some reason. It's on my smaller hard drive and the stuttering is now gone.

Sometimes I think that they only add RX and LR modes to look cool on their trailers and appeal to casuals who think that a car alone on a track would be boring. I actually enjoyed RX on Dirt Rally, and I'm really, REALLY in the mood for Land Rush. If only they weren't half baked... =/

FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF

The game unlocked for me when it was 00:30 and I was really late for sleep, having to wake up earlier than normal today. I actually opened the game, but couldn't play it. Now I'm stuck at work wanting to go home and try it for real. :(

Graphics being worse then rally is weird, but the sound fx are too. What went on here?

Try turning off the advanced blending option.
