Taiko no Tatsujin announced for PS4 (2017)

Nice, nice. Really enjoyed the arcade game and still have some of (both) Must Songs to play through. Was hoping there'd be a non-region locked one soon after I get around to finishing those because V has DLC and I didn't want to deal with that on the Vita.

Might wait for the inevitable Switch game, though? I guess it sorta depends on what the full tracklist ends up being.

Interesting. Taiko has also been confirmed for Switch. I wonder if this is multiplat or whether both consoles are getting unique games?

Either way I love me some Taiko

I'm torn, I want it on Switch with a pro-tatacon but I'm not buying one for each console. It's not going to be universal, is it? :(

Either way, HYPE. Glad this is back on PS.

Great song list so far. I bought the vita game and two of the three 3DS games, so I'm pretty sure I'll be getting this too.

Well, I, uh, didn't expect that at all lol. I guess PS4 is gonna be the home console version going forward and Switch will count as the handheld one? The new Tatacon being USB and by Hori is great news though, I don't trust Namco after the Wii ones lol

Song list is... kinda really plain so far, covering a lot of the popular picks first in the switch to a new platform I guess. Really barely anything that hasn't already been in a console version already which is a bummer. Hopefully the next wave of song announcements is better.

Looking forward to a bigger OT thread since there will be fewer barriers for entry. Hope to see you all there :D
Who's making it? Bankslammer?!

Yeah. I'm hoping for better controllers from Hori. Give us a new pro one, too, please!
I hope the song list is quite a bit larger by the time it releases. Looks pretty basic, which I suppose is because they're expecting a new fanbase that wants those classic songs that have been done to death in many of the other games.

Edit, since it's not in the OP.
Here are the tracks confirmed for the new game:
Zenzenzense
Road Movie (Crayon Shin-chan movie theme)
Ashita mo (NTT DoCoMo commercial song)
RPG
Ninjari Bang Bang
Memeshikute
Kiseki
Sakuranbo
Linda Linda
Natsu Matsuri
Tentai Kansoku
Kurenai
Yume wo Kanaete Doraemon
My Neighbor Totoro
Let it Go
Zenryoku Batankyu
A Cruel Angel's Thesis
Youkoso Japari Park e
Ghost Rule
Roku-chou nen to Ichiya Monogatari
Pen Pineapple Apple Pen
Night of Nights
Carmen Prelude
Orpheus in the Underworld Prelude
Tales of Berseria Medley
Kagekiyo
Tsunagare! Hirogare! Uchiagare!

Famitsu is out, scans from it and other magazines are on the web. They haven't officially broken the story for whatever reason yet though. Not really a whole lot to report that isn't in OP's article, but the UI it uses for song select and gameplay isn't based on the arcade version for... I think maybe the first time? Also, they're advertising "over 70 songs", so expect 75 or so in the base songlist, and I'm certain there will be DLC.

I can't believe the track number went above 100 with tokumori and then back down after that. C'mon. This is bullshit.

Official site is up, Famitsu also has more screens and info (copy/paste the URL). No additional song reveals yet, no idea when more are coming.

As weird as it is that they ditch the arcade-style UI, it seems like there's a decent number of steps towards arcade parity, with petit-charas and custom titles making their way to console, and of course finally being able to share/compare scores. The Guest Sessions seem cute, but with Taiko generally being pretty sparing with licenses getting supplementary material like custom dancers, I have to wonder how many more there will be, and if it'll just be reserved to stuff that already has custom elements like IM@S, Touhou and Vocaloid.

For better or for worse, they've shifted from more songs in the base game to more DLC. Even though WiiU3 launched with 16 fewer songs than WiiU2, by the time DLC was done for both, WiiU3 had 10 more tracks total (without needing to pay anything if you bought early enough). Of course, what DLC structure they go with on PS4 remains to be seen, but I certainly hope that if they're cutting down on home console version songlist size, they continue to make up for it via free DLC.

The primary issue is there's a peripheral in a market that wants nothing to do with them.

I know... I wonder if it's be possible for a dev to create a small "special order" where they charge $1000 for a version so at least some big taiko fans could get it here in English. Or a kickstarter? Might be bad publicity though.

Why do we need Taiko in English though? Once you figure out the menus it's all gameplay, the region locking isn't even a thing now. Unless you're talking about the JRPG stuff and....I don't think anyone would pay $1000 for a translation of that.
