Datamining reveals images of Blizzard's incoming social upgrade to battle.net

*Note these images are generated through datamining and could be changed by release, but it gives us a good idea.

We already had hints of a social upgrade coming to battle.net through a previous datamine of a few strings and the blizzcon schedule, but now we have pictures of what it might look like. Presumably they intend to have it out around Destiny 2's release, but just a guess.

Remember when PC gamers all used a client that could use any IM service and worked with all games and then everyone was somehow sold on being AOLized again?

To be frank, ever since Blizzard made network games they were required to go through Battle.net to play with randoms.

Huh? I don't see how Steam had anything to do with what you're talking about. All of the services that people were using were either bought out and shut down or turned into something way less useful.

I'm ok with this. Looks like it will actually be a good system for people who play lots of WoW and Overwatch and want to organize their groups of friends.

Since it's all in battle.net, I wonder if you'll be able to be in a chatroom with folks across several different Blizzard games?

Of course, "group.warning.appearOffline - You are currently appearing offline." makes an appearance as well, but we've seen the phrase pop up in various strings previously. Hopefully this time it will be added to the feature.

There is hope yet...

Will the friends list still be region locked?

I was surprised when I learned that. I can understand why (Blizzard's games have multiplayer regions and odds are the friend you want to add is someone you want to play with) , but it still strikes me as rather stupid, especially since changing your MP region for more recent titles can be done in-client in literally a few clicks.

Sounds to me like he’s talking about an Xfire type service. I used that heavily between world of Warcraft and CS back in the day.

ctrl+f Appear Offline

I guess there's hope at least. Though, I don't even play D3 anymore, so I guess I don't need it anymore.

Edit: Oh you can Appear Offline1!! Niiiice. Bring on Diablo 4 some day.

No one seems to have noted you can already use these features if you switch to the beta client.
Edit: Missed it by 2 minutes.
