final fantasy vii remake on jan 1st 2008?

Damn, this page is old. Not only that, it has been confirmed numerous times that the game will not be remade, especially since the original team has it's hands full on future FF titles who are more important than the remake of an old game that wasn't even that special to begin with.

Please, let it stay dead

Other than that: :lol :lol :lol

remake a good final fantasy instead

That's the best thing about the new Square... EVERY Final Fantasy will be remade, perhaps several times... even your favorite Final Fantasy is bound to come up sooner or later.

Luke's obviously having some fun with the 1up database before he leaves ;)

I think thats been there a while, If it were him he should have put the date as the 12th of Smarch, or something.

err, no it hasn't. Infact Square-Enix have said that they it would be something they will take into consideration when looking into future projects, or words to that effect. It has never been conifrmed that it won't be remade. It's been confirmed that it isn't currently, but they're two very different things. I would be amazed, if it was never ever remade.

As a result, provided fan reaction continues to be feverishly positive over the demo, and the very notion of a FFVII remake is certainly something Square Enix would bear in mind when planning future projects.

Ok, so that was a long time ago, like, just after E3 05, but still... just clearing up the bullshit.

Oh, I realise that, but I also remember that one of the more important figures concerning FFVII stated that a remake simply cannot be done with all the projects they have running now. If they will remake it, they would do it in about 2 to three years. As of this moment though, a remake is still out of the question and when (I do agree with you that it's not a question of if, reluctantly) they announce the remake it won't be until after FFXIII and the other games in the Fabula Nova Crysalis age are finished. Even then, the possibility of it getting a remake is still a bit questionable.

But, if the fates favor the fanboys, a Final Fantasy VII remake could arrive this generation. I however don't see the need for it, since it's not even that good of an FF title. It received a lot of praise due to it being a big series, and the marketing was perfectly executed, but I still think that it's a bit overrated due to all of the fanboys.

That shit at 1Up pisses me off. Everytime I go there (once every few weeks) FF7 is on the "top stories" list and I think maybe they've got news on it or something. But NOPE! Just more worthless ****in speculation. Take it off the ****ing site until Square tells you otherwise.

Oh my God, enough FF7 already. They went totally overboard with the compilation as it is; too much too soon. I'd rather see them utilize their resources to create new games (not necessarily in the FF series) instead.

While I wouldn't be surprised if that FFVII tech demo ended up to be more than just a showing off of their White Engine...come on now...the release date listing there alone should have sent up red flags. :lol

Are you saying that companies now not only need to confirm that a game is not being developed, they also need to confirm that it won't be developed at some point in the future? Going with that logic, can we just assume that every game ever will be getting remade at some point?

i really wonder what the sales for this would be like, were it to come to fruition. my knee-jerk reaction is to say that it would sell like hotcakes, square knows this, and so making it is inevitable; then again, maybe i'm just immersed in the vocal minority who would buy it, with the public at large ignoring it.

they're busy with other projects, but what sells better: the newest in the series (ff13, let's say) or the ff7 remake?

i don't really care whether it is a placeholder date.. I just care whether the game exists...

if it does, and it manages to look like the tech demo they've shown before (possible, looking at FFXIII), then it will really be the second coming of the gaming world.

I think you're putting this game on a bit too high of a pedestal.

well, i certainly don't think so. I've played games since the NES days as a kid, and the first time i was actually sucked into one was FF7. Yes, i've played chrono trigger and yes, i've played FF6 and yes, i failed to complete them both cuz i got bored quick. FF7 was THE game that held my attention for 70 hours, so it holds a special place in my heart.

It would definitely make sense to remake the game, they have the assets from the demo, movie, plus all the voice actors for Core Crisis. As they are remaking/porting every FF game, I would be VERY surprised if there's not a remake of FFVII.

Just please god no more final fantasy. They've already got like 10 in production, the world and the laws of physics as we know it will collapse with one more.

I personally think this remake will exist. When? wich console? I wouldn't bet right now but it will be done.
That demo at E3 simply made too much noise and Squaresoft knows they are sitting on a gold mine = they will do it.
