Offical Aegis "It's coming right for us!" Wing Thread

QVT

Fair-weather, with pride!
This game rules, its free for people in NA, and of course most people have NA accounts so heres a place to get a second third or fourth gunner or talk about how bloody awesome the game is.

There are lots of bullets.

I was in the game too (yellow ship), but I think I got disconnected or something. Sucks too cause it was the final boss. (I think?)

Anyway great fun. I like how you can latch on to others and form a bad-ass super ship. It was very cool the first time everyone joined together and then the Epic Warrior achievement popped up on the screen.

Thing with lots and lots of "eyes"? Then, yeah.

Hate the single player, but love the multiplayer. Apparently I'm good at being the lead ship. Just gotta get the whole synchronized linking thing together. In a hail of bullets and everybody trying to link up... it's chaos. Also at least one person must hang on to the Hades beam and one must hang on to the Gorgon Eye. It's just proper.

My initial impressions were less than favorable, but I now give it a thumbs up.

Music still sucks though. I'm not backing down from that!

Yeah, I just played single player for a while....kinda sucks. I don't know if the multiplayer dynamic or whatever totally makes the game, but 1 player it's just a kinda crappy shooter.

Single player is weak,Multi is awesome with 4 players on insane.

Its all about the multiplayer. The whole forming the megazord dynamic is the best part of the game.

Fair enough, I'll have to check that out later today. Even though single player kinda sucks, it's pretty awesome that it was made by interns, and that they put it up for free it's first week.

yeah sean we did i next go too.

Game is awesome there is no way i t could have ever costed more than 400 pints but free is a bonus.

Everythign about online multiplayer in this side scrolling shooter is great, the way you can form up to the ultramegazor is great & adds so much to the game with teh master flyer takign control and then teh shooters all blasting away.

this intern made project kicks the arse of larger developers (cough EA Boom Boom cough) but why oh why MS is this only north america at a time you want people to use there own region accounts this is teh first time (outside of demos) where I've had to go and use my US account for something that could be in UK or any other english speaking contra (if translation is this issue).

Had some great times on this took about 30 mins to complete but played for a good hour :)

Holy shit what an awesome game, my first impressions were pretty much "meh, glad I didn't have to pay for this slow ass boring shite", then I got an invite from Gowans into a multiplayer game and it really is night and day if not for the Halo 3 beta happening today this game would be getting a lot more love...

It's only gonna be up for a limited time so while your all gearing up for Halo 3 don't forget to grab this, once the Beta's over this game will still be a blast to play...

How do you get the "Finish a stage without shooting" achievement? I can't beat the boss without shooting him. Can you earn it in multiplayer?

Damn so much for that, already down to #3. I figure in about a week I'll be #352532532 or something.

Well it was good while it lasted at least.

Did the voltron thing one game, it was pretty damn cool. One ship always had to detach to grab power-ups/fit through narrow crevices.

Not really that hard(especially for the average 2D shooter player) but it's got a nice bit of depth to it and it's a lot of fun.

I figure it's worth 400 points, but since it's free..whoopie.

Yes. Multi is the way to go. I don't think the bosses auto-destruct.

It's a solid multi game, a crap single player, but overall too short. 400 points would have been okay. They should really flesh it out with more weapons, more stages, an a little flair to make a balls out 800 worth game, but unlikely to happen.

Only played single player, but I think this game blows for shumups. Found it pretty boring, maybe insane difficulty will change that

yeah, its really tame in single player atleast, I just played for maybe 5 minutes and got bored, part of that may have been that i wanted to go check if the Halo 3 beta was up.

but yeah, its pretty easy, im gonna try multiplayer out later.

So how did you get the 185k?

We tried it in a number of ways with 4 players, but we can't get anywhere close to 185k with four people sharing the points it seems.

Awesome game for interns. This game makes me yearn for more Shumps though, especially four player ones.

Yeah, anything four player like this is just excellent. Four player is the greatest thing about Next-Gen without question. It just turns games which would be pretty poor in single player to really great and fun games. Listening to the guys who had finally reached the last boss just go crazy was really awesome.

Basically by destroying as much stuff as possible and collecting every pickup I can get my hands on.

The developers were pretty slick when they designed this game. You can't milk the enemies/power-ups that appear during boss fights as they aren't worth anything. Seems most of the challenge in the game comes from scoring. Due to the limited weapons there's a good chance you'll miss enemies.

That said what worked for me is using the lasers to take out asteroids/rows of enemies, homing missiles whenever, the EMP(I forget the real name) for those homing critter things, and the shield is always nice for larger waves of enemies. Other than that I don't know, you basically have to kill as much as possible. It may be easier to reach 185k in Insane mode since there are more enemies.

Wish they added a leaderboard for four-player games. That'd give a bit more incentive to score-attacking with multiple ships. Did a game earlier where we all tried to stay in the mega-four-player-ship. It's rather fun trying to dodge stuff in something so large and slow(I usually end up playing the pilot since I apparently have all the leet skillz.)

hell yeah, just completed it on hardest with QVT, Super Mackem & Agent Dormer, awesome game the online co-op adds so much more, with tactics, chat or just even watching when you die giving the existing players shit to get you a life :D

Great job MS, now bring it to the rest of your live owners so I can have it properly tied to my account :D

I'm no SHUMP master but this one is pretty bad.

Why does the music sound like two completely different songs playing at the same time?

Where the hell do people get "shump" from? Stop it!

But did you get it in single or multi?

I think that's the exact opposite of slick -- rather dumb, in fact.

If your only way of scoring is shooting down enemies, this game has a rather low ceiling for scoring and it'll be maxed out by several players before the weekend, I'm sure. Had you been able to milk enemies, gain a multiplier, whatever, the game could've lived on forever on XBLA with people constantly fighting over leaderboard positions as they figure out new tactics. Now you're just gonna get your 185k and move on, because you literally can't score a whole lot more than that.

aku:jiki said:

Single. I haven't paid too much attention to the combined scores over the multiplayer games I've been in but I figure they're a bit higher.

Eh I don't see the big deal. It's a free game(well for the US at least) so I imagine the developers weren't too concerned about this sort of thing. It's competently designed and fun so I guess that's good enough.

If they ever want to do an update to get more life out of the game they should consider a loop option ala the Gradius games. Beat the game, keep your score, but go through it again at a higher difficulty with more crap being thrown at you. It'd be rather simple to implement and granted it lacks the complexity and depth of say Radiant Silvergun's scoring system but at least the leaderboards would be constantly moving.

Multiplayer is SO MUCH FUN

its like 10 times better than single player, the best is when everyone is yelling "LETS COMBINE" voltron style and we form a big ship and we are dominating all, so awesome.

Just beat it on Insane on MP, pretty fun, especially when everybody is linked up and you all have powerups

Yeah class game in mp, that last boss on insane was pretty cool damn those lasers.:lol

I'd like to play multiplayer with some of you guys. Gamer tags?

PepsimanVsJoe though I won't be back on until around 11:30ish EST.

I'm still missing two achievements(Team player and Diplomat I believe).

Played a few levels of insane solo. It's like a whole different world from the horizontal shooters I usually play. Definately a fun game but it could have used some more fleshing out, maybe some bullet attack upgrades instead of the pea shooter, or secondary weapon upgrades.

Okay, so I logged into my US account to download this awesome FREE game. While downloading it I was navigating the AWESOME NEW marketplace when the entire system froze and I got greed crap all over the screen. I rebooted the system. 3 red rings of death! Woo hoo MS! I'll call them tomorrow..... IF I'm not too busy playing ODIN SPHERE! :lol

Well, it looks like you can't join the game I'm in and I can't join the game you're in. Weird.

Hey FatalT! Yeah, I couldn't connect to you.

Something's wrong, I can't find any games on the game list either.l

Check your "NAT" settings when you test your Xbox Live connection. Make sure it's set to "Open".

It's set to open. Maybe it's my router? Does anyone know the IP address to view router settings?

How does it hold up to the Cave Bullet Hell classics?

Just finished the game on normal in multiplayer and in that mode it's fairly easy if you're used to Cave's shooters. Not quite bullet hell, more pattern base like Gradius. I'm sure the harder difficulties will add more insanity to the screen. It's simply designed but a very fun game, especially with other people.

I know its free and its real shitty to pick apart a game with that in mind, BUT.......I am underwhelmed. I did single-player for a couple levels and it did nothing to satisfy my craving for a Strikers 1945 3 or Einhander type shooter. The bullets are just too damn slow. I mean, from my ship anyway. Give me rapid fire with upgradeable bullets that get bigger and more widespread, y'know? I noticed the powerups and special weapons and stuff, but it just felt like a PC shooter and not at all like an arcade shooter if you know what I mean.

I don't see a big deal either. I simply presented a counterpoint to your praise.

Actually, if you read the GameSpot interview, you'll see that their original design was more complex, but other folks at MS/Carbonated/whatever forced them to tone it down and make it "accessible."

Imagine Cave is Jupiter. This game is an atom. Do the math!

There are only two difficulty settings and none of them is particularily "insane", which is a disappointment. I guess it goes back to what I said about the GS interview earlier.

I did single-player
There's your problem right there. This game is a piece of crap in singleplayer, but in multi it's pretty damn fun at least for a few hours. Which is a good bargain for a free game.

I did some single-player, got to level two. The game kicked my ass, hard.

Dumb question: does your main cannon ever get powered up, or is everything super weapons to deploy? The Help screen never mention power-ups and I didn't notice any. But then I died a lot.
