Also, take the MotorStorm dates with a grain of salt. The developers have given out numerous dates for when content is coming out and in what region in a variety of different interviews. Don't shoot the messenger if I'm wrong.

Below are the details of these """""exciting """"" new offerings:

This week, take a look at a tutorial video of the game's online feature set.

Stranglehold Trailer (free): Continue the story of John Woo’s influential action film, Hard Boiled, starring Chow Yun-Fat. Engage your enemies in intense cinematic gun battles and cause extensive environmental damage using a full arsenal of deadly weapons. Movie Trailers (free): Download new trailers for the upcoming blockbuster film, Transformers, and the upcoming Blu-ray release, Bruce Springsteen with the Sessions Band: Live in Dublin.

Hopefully us Europeans/Australians will get PS1 titles and Calling All Cars this week. They've been really slow on releasing content so far.

More likely we'll get another PS3 advert, a trailer for Super Rub-a-Dub and *maybe* if we're very lucky the worst PSN game that hasn't been released in Europe yet.

I only care about a LAIR demo, and its release this month is not for certain...

Hey, Sony. How about some of those PS1 games that have been sitting on the Japanese store for weeks now? We haven't gotten anything new in that area for months. This is free money here. You put up Roms at $4.99, I will download them to play on my PS3 and PSP.

Resistance - Japan will most likely finally get the balance, gametype and other updates for Resistance that America already has. been getting since launch.

The Japanese version of Resistance has been getting the same online updates as the US version. The only disappointing thing about the JPN version is lack of competition due to the local servers, which will change.

I thought Zoe (as little as a month ago) had mentioned that Japan still has the "skeleton skin being used" thing going on which makes people impossible to hit.

Sony really, really needs to step up the PSN releases. This making Xbox 360's last spring look good in comparison (at least there were kick-ass demos, especially around E3, while the XBLA team was screwing around).

Also, why the hell don't all PSN games have demos?!? I would be much more likely to purchase CAC if I could try it out first.

Super Stardust HD looks fantastic....I hope that comes out soon.

If the latest couple of PSU surveys are any indication, Sony is taking demos more seriously.

We get two new Resistance Maps this week, both are downloadable in a single pack for 4.49 Euro. I also got some confirmed releasedates (since the pressrelease went out this morning). Nucleus (7.99 Euro) will be released on PSN on July 6th, Calling All Cars wil finally be downloadable for 7.99 Euro on the 22nd of this month. Go Puzzle is out of course, and June 15th the MotorStorm Time Attack Mode Pack will be released. And that's free of course.

But, finally, on June 22nd, us European PS3 owners will get the PSOne titles like Crash Bandicoot, Syphon Filter, WipeOut, Everybody's Golf, Jumping Flash! and Medievil. More titles will be available later.

It's about damn time. Too bad it's not until friday night we'll get the stuff.

They could have probably saved a few jobs at SCEA if they did!
But now, it'll probably be the other way around... :(

BTW, great job with these threads tanod.

it's funny I sware I see this written every week the day before thursday... and then come thursday it's just comments of how much sony has let us down:lol . what is it now 3 bad weeks in a row? Hopefully they can end their streak here.

Before I bow out of this thread, it amazes me how SCEA is completely uninterested in communicating with its audience. On the other hand GAF has done an amazing job building the community for Resistance and Motorstorm, and weekly threads like this also help to give us an idea of what is on PSN.

Why isn't Sony doing this, and why aren't they mining GAF or other message boards for talented people who could help build the community? Sony really, really needs its Major Nelson...

They got Threespeech, but that's higly uninteresting most of the times imo. I don't think they can achieve the status Major Nelson got actually.

I like to see you retranslate all the games into French,German.etc plus making it PAL compatible within one week.

Honestly... I'd say this has more to do with Sony's Japanese roots than anything. SCEA has to answer to SCEJ, and it seems to introduce too much red tape. Unlike Microsoft, which has a much more forward thinking, western approach to these things (online especially). IMO of course.

Wow Euro store prices are expensive. Prices in the JPN store are downright cheap in comparison..CaC was 800 yen. Come to think of it PS3 1st party blu-ray titles are dirt cheap in Japan as well, usually selling for 5000 yen.

Proc said:
Couldn't Europeans make US accounts or am I missing something?

Yeah we can, so it's not that big of a deal. But most people wouldn't know this (only the hardcore) and seeing SCEE has not been very helpful lately I know people will get bumbed down by the PS Store, while X360 owners get cool demo's and XBLA games virtually every week.

I really hate how Sony has basically 0 community agents on this board, unlike how Microsoft has 3+. It's bullshit. The only thing close is David Jaffe, and it's obvious Sony doesn't even want him to do what he does. Nintendo has nobody at all.

Maybe it is their Japanese roots, but whatever. It's lame.

I'd rather they not go the Major Nelson route. Gamers building their own communities is far more preferable without corporate cheerleading. There are press releases from Sony outlining what their weekly releases are. Beyond that, what communications do they need to provide?

I agree totally, the world wouldn't be any better off with another "vagina clown" in this world. Xbox 360 would be fine without a Major Nelson. I enjoy coming to this thread and checking out the weekly content releases, keep it up man.

Edit: Although it would be nice to have someone to throw tomatoes at occasionally when they screw up lol, i'm definitely guilty of spamming the major's blog in the old days. So when's the prey demo coming out.

People want to know who is responsible for getting out the content and to hold them accountable. It's as simple as that. It's to Sony's benefit that it gets directed at a person/position rather than the entire company as a whole.

I think it's more the two way conversation. I never listen to Mjolnir Nelson anymore in terms of his irritating "Now how's the awesome power of the 360 helping you make this kick ass game" but it's nice to have someone come up and say "Believe me guys, we know what's going on, and we're working on it."

JStevenson is probably the closest thing they have to an Arne or Che. It would be good to have a few more around to give us info and the like.

Thankfully we don't need a Sony version of Arne to damage control rape-time DLC policies and dead PS3s, eh?

Not me, I don't own Resistance and know nothing about it ^^

Here's the press release. It just mentions two maps and worldwide play.

J is a community manager for Insomniac specifically, he can't and doesn't speak for Sony.

And I very much prefer the crew at http://gamerscoreblog.com over Major Nelson.

What does it matter? Holding one figurehead accountable isn't any more acccurate than holding the entire corporate entity accountable. There's a whole bunch of unnamed people across departments responsible for getting content out in a timely fashion and anyone of them could be the weak link. Ultimately it behooves Sony as a whole to work out the issues, so may as well hold them accountable in their entirety, rather than allow yourself to be fobbed off on a low-level community "manager" that's just as likely to be a cul de sac for many complaints as they are to actually escalate the issue.

BenjaminBirdie said:

I'd like to think gamers would be smart enough to see past this kind of "handling" and realize that actions speak louder than words in this case. No one has be placating people that something is being "worked on" if results are being demonstrated in a timely fashion. As far as building community goes, I'd rather it not rely on that kind of placebo info. If a gaming community relies on that kind of fluff to thrive, count me out.

Agreed and QFT. I know Chris Paladino from gamerscoreblog from his (other) podcast days... he's "Good People™". Very approachable and doesn't schmooze everything up with marketing blabber. Sony could do with some "real people" to face the public...

Besides schilling, etc., PR's job is also to absorb the blows from critics to protect the company's brand image. For example, when the Halo 3 download debacle went down., who took the bront (sp?) of the criticism, their PR people. It wasn't Xbox.com that went down, it was Major Nelson's site.

It may be a seemingly meaningless diversionary tactic that appears condescending watching it happen but from a business standpoint, it's helping to protect the company image.

You forgot the genji pedobear costume. We didn't get it last week.

I simply cannot believe they are going to charge for additonal Motorstorm content considering I bought the game for its online play and basically got ****ed out of $60...

I let it slide because I knew the extreme pressure to release the game but I also expected them to make it right eventually...

I guess with unproven IPs, it really is best to rent before you buy...

I understand the motivation from the business standpoint, tanod, but I was asking how it really matters to *us* as gamers and customers.

Sony really needs a PSN Worldwide content overload, the shit of multiple accounts takes the piss. And a community webpage/person

Uh, the online patches (including online play for Japan) are going to be absolutely free.

The new track and vehicle pack are what will cost $$$. That's all.

I need a little more than "time attack mode" to make me feel my $60 purchase was justified...

Seriously, the game's online infrastructure offers less than most online PS2 games did...

That is unacceptable for a $60 game on a $600 machine...

If developers don't want to invest the effort it takes to create online modes then don't inculde them at all please...

I'm tired of getting ripped off.

But what is really missing from the Motorstorm online mode? It's more like OTHER modes that are missing from the game.
And how can you justify to buy a game (even worse, a 60$ one) wich just ONE mode already? Unless you play online multi gaming exclusively i'd say you're wrong to buy a game on such criteria. There's SO many other things in a game than a online mode.

Ranger X said:

Nothing. It's just as sophisticated as the Go! Puzzle one. Minus the webcam support but hey, it's a launch title.

ugh....another week goes by and there are no PS1 games to be seen. I don't understand why they can't release at least 2-3 games a week. Is it really that much work to code them to run from the PS3's HD and on the PSP aswell?

I guess if you want any PS1 downloads you gotta get yourself a JP PSN card and get your games from there, because it doesn't look like the people involved with putting content on the US store are really that interested in doing this for the NA store.

Sony is sitting on a goldmine here...Do they not understand this.
