Hello everybody,
I am here on behalf of the participants of the very first Mario Strikers Charged World Cup here at GAF.
We've kept this in the Online Matchup Forum, but we wanted to give a little exposure both to the tournament and the people who steamr^H^H^H^H^H^H passed the preliminary phase (they deserve it, they're very fine players!)
So far we've discovered that:
* The game does not seem to have obvious exploits. There's no "winning" team or captain. This is very important as it keeps frustration to a minimum.
* There's no rubberband whatsoever. Items seem to be distributed casually and there's no automatic "comeback" feature for the loser. This also means that better players tend to crush less skilled players, but if you are a novice or someone who can't devote his life to the game (like some seem to do), don't despair: there's something cooking also for you. More details as the situation develops, stay tuned.
* People here at GAF are very honorable. We didn't have a single accuse of cheating, disconnection whatsoever and even the few matches which weren't played (due to Real Life) didn't bring any annoying consequence. The person who coldn't be there was defaulted a loss and everything went on just fine.
* The game is frantic, there's a goal opportunity every few seconds, so a comeback is possible until the very end. Mega Strikes are not a factor, they don't unbalance the game. Very few happened during this first phase of the tournament actually.
This all means one thing: if you have the game, or just think about getting it, please do so and join us. You aren't being left behind just because you didn't play it from day one, and you WILL have fun.
As mentioned before, we're trying to come up with something for the less skilled players or those who are returning after a period of absence, a sort of lounge where you can meet, play the other players and then receive precious input to improve your skills.
We're also trying to find a way to broadcast the matches; so far KKG1701 managed to film a few matches, here are them for your viewing pleasure:

The Final Group Tables:
Group A:
Group B:
In good Mario Strikers Charged tradition, there are two trophies awarded after the preliminary rounds:
The Golden Foot award goes to Haunted with 52 goals scored (averaging 4,3 goals per game and 10,4 goals per series).
The Brick Wall award goes to tanasten, who only let 8 goals in (averaging 0,8 goals per game and an amazing 1,6 goals against him per series).
Congratulations.
Thanks to everyone who participated so far, this first round seemed to be great fun for all the people I've talked to, with lots of intense and enjoyable games - it really showed how awesome the NeoGAF community can be. Kudos to all!
BUT the Cup is far from over - Announcing the four players who advance to the semi-finals to duke it out for the coveted Mario Strikers Charged GAF Cup: CapnDrake and Haunted from Group A; tanasten and MasterMFauli from Group B.
The winners of the respective groups get the home advantage for this round, making the pairings for this week's semi-finals
CapnDrake - MasterMFauli
tanasten - Haunted
