EB Games Australia Issues Total 360 Recall

EB Games Australia have issued a recall on their Xbox 360s. Not just their own personal display or demo units. Every single Premium Xbox 360 they had in-stock. Sources within the company have confirmed that two weeks ago (approx June 29) store managers were first asked by Head Office to test every unit in-stock for errors, but were then ordered last week to return their entire inventories of the console, as well as remove all 360 promotional material and dummy boxes from their stores. The recall is believed to be due to a faulty batch of HDDs, as it did not include Core units.

Jesus Christ

That doesn't bode well. Wonder if they got a bad batch and I wonder when they were manufactured.

mmmm

"So when are you getting more in stock."

"Two weeks. Two weeks. Twoo weeks TWOOOOO WEEEEKSSK OTWOTTO WEKKKSKKSKAGHHAHGHGGH"

Bizarre. Perhaps Microsoft Europe kept it really quiet, or hasn't begun.
Could have effect on all PAL territories, if it is a total recall.

...how do you keep a recall quiet?

"Hey, you bought a 360?"
"yeah"
"Well, its broken, please return it, we'll send you a fixed one, oh, but dont tell anyone, it's a SECRET"

By dealing with the retailer (and indirectly the consumer). The retailer returns all units in stock. Microsoft replaces any broken units through the retailer and passes it off as a standard manufacturing defect, with no questions asked besides "when did you buy it?".

Oh wait.

I phoned up EB Games this week wanting to know what 360 bundles they had when they told me that all 360's were recalled. I then emailed EB Games directly for more info, this is what I got:

We are definitely still ranging XBOX 360 consoles, but there has been a case recently of some high fault rates, as such our stores have had to send back all of there stock and we have been waiting to receive new stock from XBOX that does not contain this fault. We will be receiving new stock on Monday and ___________ will receive this stock on Tuesday. Please feel free to head into this store from Tuesday to pick up your new 360 console.

Thanks

So starting tomorrow new stock will be coming in. I didn't know this was about a faulty HDD though, I thought it was about the failure rates, both EB Games people I talked to told me it was because of the failure rates (ie. red ring of death).

Ah it's not to bad then. Well actually it is but not "bad" in a sense. But this gives more ammo for people, how can you mess up an entire batch???
Hey its Microsoft that question has already answered itself.

Barracuda Seagate? I was thinking about getting a HDD from them :(
It says a faulty batch of hard drives, which suggests to me that they came into the production line and were simply placed into 360 HDD caddies without testing. It's not a particularly complicated device so I would put the fault on Seagate and Microsoft's production line.

You would think that they (both Microsoft and Seagate) would at least have the time to test one or two random units per batch, though.

I like how no one is reading the OP.

-It won't be in Europe
-It's not total, only Premium
-It's specific hard drives, not 3ROD or DVD drive

I didn't read it. I assume that is what it was. Damn, Microsoft needs some better partners.

MS needs to hurry up and get the new 65nm version of the xbxo 360 out and just recall all consoles....

This is the first time i have heard of a hdd problem, just add it to the list....

LOL I JUST JUST GOT That joke I've been staring at that pic for a while wondering what the hell? is this supposed to be funny.. .then i went on another board to post the information.. and in writing the topic name i was like OHHHH

Wow MS can't catch a break. If they lose this gen to Sony, its all their fault for putting out shitty consoles. If my 360 dies, it will be the last thing I ever get from MS.

TBH, the timing of these stories seems too coincidental. I have my tinfoil hat on, but I just get the feeling that Sony and MS are leaking these stories to the media in a little back and forth they've had going over the past few months now. A good Sony story is followed by a bad one. The same for the 360. I mean, really, the 360 stories piled up in a hurry all around E3. It just seems so coincidental. Meh, back to your regularly scheduled program. PEACE.

What? I was at EB Games yesterday. This story is true. A whole batch had a ton of broken HDDs. There's a thread on the official Xbox forums about this.

It's an American Console and it should be made in America. This is truly what I hate about MS. Well you get what you pay for MS.:lol

i don't even think its American-designed

what part about that console is "American" other than it being managed by an American company?

That's my point good buddy that's my point. Have you called customer service lately? It makes me sad to hear that another JOB is gone.

Oh well

Can't wait for the 65nm. I'll probably just Red Ring my fourth console myself when it comes out just to obtain one; unless MS gets smart and just recalls the piece of crap. It gets tiring always replacing the thing..

It comes down to quality and a $6 production cost is a friggin' joke.

Something Fishy about this HDD story. You don't just pull every single unit from store shelves because of a faulty batch of HDD's. You can see the serial numbers of the consoles without opening the box. They can surely tell which units may contain faulty HDD's by looking at the serial numbers.

Sounds like AU wanted the old poorly designed units off the shelves and replaced with new redesigned units. MS probably wheel'ed and deal'ed to give them what they want on the condition that they blame faulty HDD's instead of saying they didn't want to sell the remaining older models they had.
