I'll edit in the reviews and new media that is sure to accompany the release of both games
when they come, in the mean time I need YOUR help in the creation of a header for this thread, not something I rightly do, so I leave it in the collectives capable hands.

But Bomberman Live! was a collaboration between the Japanese and NA studios to make the bestest bomberman eva!

For anyone who didn't know, wrap your head around this one:

Bomberman: Act Zero - Developed in Japan
Bomberman LIVE! - Developed in the USA

Don't forget about Canada because Bomberman LIVE! was developed by Backbone Vancouver, which might have also done Yie Yr Kung Fu oddly enough, not sure which division handled development duties, but going on historical past, it is a good bet it is them.

I feel I'm partially responsible for Bomberman Live, I once suggested it in one of the Bomberman Zero threads. You should edit the thread title to include my name.

Are there any interviews with the actual developers of the title? All the ones I've seen are just the mouth pieces over at Hudson, who probably did not have anything to do with the game outside of a few ideas.

I'm getting sick of this happening. As much flack as Backbone get, they need a pat on the back for this game.

Anyone know if there are any special 'classic' costumes from older games, like Bomberman 64?

:)

A Google search only yields interviews from Hudson people, not too surprising since Hudson is handling the PR.

Thanks Shard. I've been waiting for this for a long time. A return to past Bomberman glories? The best Bomberman since the Saturn version? I hope these things are true. Sounds like it from what people have said.

I'll be buying Yie Ar as well. I've always liked that game. By far the best fighting game in the pre-SFII days.

<--- My Gamertag is in my avatar.

Now, I'm not asking you to add me. No. Heaven forbid.

I am asking all of you to be weary. To avoid this GT at all cost. Encountering it will only mean you meeting an untimely demise.

That is all.

Is this going to have that ability where you can ram a guy and send him spinning across the playfield? I miss this in Bomberman 93 on Wii, so I might get this.

Wow, you seem to be all over the boards shouting out your disdain about who exactly developed Bomberman Live and who is taking credit. Yet, you seem to have no real solid info on how you are developing this rant. Seriously, you really should get your story straight first.

This game is a real collaboration between the US, Canada and Japan. Japan mapped out all the fine tuning into the game (it really is a tightly built game), they were our guide if you will. Canada is where Backbone was, or at least the dev group we worked with, and the US side conceptualized the game and managed it, as that's where the lead producer is located. No one is taking all the credit, and no one is saying anything bad about any other group. So I'm curious to know are you someone in this food chain that is irked and didn't get credit for something?

If your beef is that only Hudson US people are the ones doing interviews, well, that's because it's a Hudson game, and we are publishing it. We do credit Backbone for the development, and they are a good group. You don't hear much from our Japan side, because they do all their interviews in Japan. Not sure how else to spin this. That's just how it is.

No need to create controversy when there really is none. It's just a game. Enjoy it!

I'll field this, any animosity towards the dev group stems from Backbone's alter ego, Digital Eclipse, who has a less then sterling XBLA record.

Remember folks: Anything less than Revenge+ is for wusses.

I'm stupid excited for this.. but if I see a kangaroo or a dinosaur or any other sort of helper animal, I'm going to go all World War Hulk on Hudson.

Yeah, quality can vary from game to game and from dev team to dev team. Backbone though has gotten to be quite a large group, so you really have to look at specific development teams to determine which ones are good. I will say the group we worked with has been great. They really had a passion for Bomberman which is why we decided to work with them rather than do it in house. Passion goes a long way.

I can't believe how people hate the dinosaurs and kangaroos! I LOVE them! It just adds another element to the gameplay. I guess I must be more in the minority in this case though. I got out-voted and Hudson decided to leave out the ridable animals for Bomberman Live. Oh well, I can't win them all!

And am I the only one so far that thinks this whole World War Hulk series so far has been pretty weak?

Yea like I assume the guys doing Bomberman LIVE! here were not the same folks who did Yie Ar Kung Fu even though they are both at Backbone Vancouver, one of the two Backbone dev sites.

No, I'm just some Aussie guy who wanted to know what the process of creating a game like this was. I know you guys credit Backbone with the game, it just seems odd that they appear so quiet over it. I want to know what games they went back and played, what their favourites were etc. I love stuff like Gof of War II's SE disc with interviews on the directors and designers, you don't see much like that for these 'smaller' games.

It's also kind of because back at Hudson Japan they still don't seem to know what the hell to do with him. Not just Bomberman Act Zero, but almost everything about him - the original DS game was far too simple, the PSP Bomberman is all sorts of weird, the Bomberman Touch DS games are mostly minigames, the Wii game is more mini games. Not to mention the constant design changes.

The last main Bomberman game I enjoyed was Bomberman 64, I'm surprised they haven't gone back to that for a DS game. Bomberman Live looks to be awesome, and I'm buying it instantly, reminds me a lof of Bomberman Online on Dreamcast.

Kangaroos ruined what was pretty much a perfect game (Super Bomberman 2). The entire game de-evolved into "Get a Kangaroo or lose."

I remember being so into Bomberman Online a few years ago.. then you level up and have no choice but to use the freaking kangaroos :(

Do you mean 3 or 4? 2 didn't have Kangaroos, though I feel it's similarly flawed for removing detonators.

Sadly, OXM must now be destroyed.

Who's with me?

Same issue gives pacman CE a 6.5,marathon a 5.5, and super C a 6.5. In fairness, we haven't seen the ports of the last 2 yet but those are some low ass scores for some esteemed games.

I may be wrong, but aren't the dinosaurs in Saturn Bomberman game breaking? I think there is one that can jump and avoid explosions, and if you're very talented you can hypothetically avoid every explosion (or at least enough to break balance).

a Master Ninja said:
Yeah, I don't think I like most of those.
Yeah, who's genius idea was it to have 80% offline achievements in a game that ****ing nobody is willingly going to play in singleplayer?

I like how they put some actual effort into the backgrounds of Yie Ar. Just wish they would have done something a bit better with the sprites. At least give the text an upgrade :lol

Anxiously awaiting to polish my skills back to a gleaming awesomeness in Bomberman. Huge fan of the first 2 Snes ones, and honestly besides Saturn Bomberman - nothing really came close. Just glad there's no freakin animals in this version.

They were a better addition for the single player mode than multiplayer. Levels with vehicles in them might be interesting, because although they would give you an advantage they would also make you a prime target. I could definitely see them doing this for the inevitable DLC.

Anyone ever play ATOMIC Bomberman? Damn that shit was hot.

Hell yes. Too fast paced to be the perfect Bomberman though.

Is there any news on how many costumes are collectible? That shit is a major compulsion of mine.

Yeah, I meant that Super Bomberman 2 was awesome and 3 and 4 were lame. Super Bomberman 3 and 4 had the kangaroos that added special abilities and sometimes more importantly, an extra life, so you could suicide your way to a victory if needed.

Atomic Bomberman was awesome, but I didn't have a computer that could run it properly at the time :(

What time do XBLA games come out again? Is it 1AM PT or 2AM PT?

I believe it's midnight PDT, 3am EDT.

But I could be wrong. It's been a few months since I pulled an all-nighter waiting for an XBLA game (Catan or PoP was the last one).

edit: and I guess I am wrong
