Clive Barker's Jericho demo arriving this week

Codemasters confirmed to GameSpot today that a PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3 demo for Clive Barker's Jericho would be getting under gamers' skin this week. The PC demo will creep onto GameSpot Wednesday, with an Xbox Live and PlayStation Network trial slated to follow on Thursday.

In the demo for Barker's latest supernatural shooter, players will attempt to survive during the Crusades time period after their strike force has been decimated by the evil forces controlling the city of Al-Khali. As the spirit of deceased squad leader Cpt. Devin Ross, players will be able to possess the bodies of heavy-weapons expert Sgt. Frank Delgado, telekinetic sniper Lt. Abigail Black, and enchantress and martial weapons specialist Sgt. Billie Church. Players will also get a first-hand look at the warped abominations that Barker has devised for the game.

Clive Barker's Jericho is rated M for Mature. Check out the latest trailer for the game, available exclusively through GameSpot, and pick up the PC demo on Wednesday.

cant wait to try this out, looks pretty cool.

Hooray!

...even though I don't care for Barker. And even though I've only seen one of his films to make that judgment (HellRaiser). Bah.

Ancient horrors meet futuristic space marines? Sign me up! I'll be downloading this sucker as soon as it hits the Marketplace :)

This title popped on my radar after the squad member promo's GT had a while back. Looks cool, but it's still another shooter. Dunno how this will hold up against the 360 blockbusters this fall, even though it's another subgenre.

I don't know what to think of this. Somehow I feel like I'm playing Blood, might be the old school clunkiness of the menu screen and navigation. The graphics have all of that "next-gen" flair I suppose, but it's just plain unattractive. The motion blur gave me motion sickness, and the sickly tone of the visuals in general was just meh. Characters, also meh. Gameplay was standard stuff, shoot spawning monster there, but watch out for spawning monster there, and so forth into meh. Weapon handling was weird in general, and I didn't like the secondary and primary weapon system, ended up firing the wrong gun too many times. Didn't feel like it was at all meant to be played with kb+m.

If there is one positive thing to be said about the game, it'd be that it ran quite well with everything on high settings on my system, which means an Core 2 Duo 6550, an 8600GT, and 2GB of RAM. But with it being this visually unappealing, that's more or less meh.

Meh/10.

Maybe it wasn't designed specifically for PC?

That might explain why the controls/gameplay mechanics feel so tacked on, but it doesn't explain why the overall experience is so aggressively mediocre.

See the press demo I played a few weeks ago seemed a bit "skippy" so to speak but I liked the viseral feeling of the visuals. Sure the voice acting is meh and the story, while I had originally hoped would be thorough seems to be a bit cliched, I enjoyed the bit I played....

This is the next game I'm doing an official Thread on...kinda my type of game....hmmm hope it doesn't bomba >.<

I've never had an issue with any game but Jericho definitely gave me a bit of motion sickness. I believe it's a combination of the movement system (where the view bobs when you walk), the over saturation of red, and the blur all combined together.

It did have a very meh feel with the first character you play as, but when you switch to church it felt cooler, having the sword and pistol thing. Weapon sounds were overall weak though, and the button layout sucks. Definitely console-first.

The only reason I'm interested at this point. But if it's actually a decent game to boot... we might have a winner.

Same here, though the trailer is looking pretty good for survival horror fans, dont u think :D

Yeah, that's probably it. As for the first person motion, I typically enjoy that type of stuff, but here it felt as if I was controlling some seriously labile character.

That was half way decent, until the god damned directional button press segment. Urgh. That's one of the evils of console gaming that I don't want to see infest PC gaming.

I'll check it out again when it hits PSN, but for now, this is squarely in the purchase at $5 or lower category.

Yeah, I could live without QTEs... when i first saw it, I did a double take (and fell to my death) but at the very least, it was context sensitive :lol

The biggest problem it's not as scary as i'd thought it'd be.
Well atleast when you're with your squad. Once you seperate toward the end of the demo and go off alone as Church it gets somewhat creepy because you no longer have any help. But as pointed out, that button press sequence was annoying, although atleast they allowed you to keep repeating it in each section instead of restarting the demo.

well i liked it, short and fairly sweet, i even liked the QTE and i normally despise those.graphics are what i would describe as very consoley as in theres just masses of post processing and other shader effects going on.

combat wasn't the best but the 2nd character was definetely better than the 1st so hopefully the characters not in the demo are even better, ran fine for me almost constant 40fps @ 1080p , high and 4xaa.

Is the demo confirmed for release on the US PS Store? Because eurogamer reported that the PS3 version won't arrive until next week. :S

No interest in this game what so ever till I saw the cg trailer a couple weeks back on the PSN. If I like the demo I'll have another freaking shooter to buy. Too many shooters are being made.

QTEs in an FPS? What the hell? That's an automatic no sale for me right there. There's nothing a game can offer that can overcome my distaste of that tired, lazy mechanic.

I'm not entirely sure what it is about this game, but its on my top 5 anticipated atm.

The atmosphere, squad mechanics, QTEs (they seem pretty brief and well implemented), and gunplay all look great. I've got a feeling it'll be one of the better single player experiences of this year, and highly under-rated.

Wanted to post that, this game got QTEs right.

Yup this game seems to be made for the game pad but will probably be easier with kb+m especially with powers like spirit bullet. It looks to be a bit unoptimized for pc and would be nice if it received some touching up because anything less then a steady 30/60 FPS would make this game unplayable with some characters because of poorly implemented melee combat.

But on the over all it seems a decent fps game with a horror motif and storyline.

I don't know about other versions, but on the 360 they got QTEs horribly wrong. Indicators sometimes appear for a half second, no I'm not exaggerating, and the whole sequence (or rather two back to back) are incredibly long and boring, which you'll have to repeat a good dozen times because the game assumes you have superhuman reflexes.

Besides that, the control is really bad on all three sensitivity settings. Trying to hit anything without auto-aim is a chore with its speed up and slow down aiming. The game is so dark that even with the puny flashlight you can hardly see a thing, and in the first person melee the view is so restrained you'll miss a target directly in front of you. The powers are pretty meh as well, though the visuals and character designs are nice.

Worst FPS I've played in recent memory.

I dled the PC version

its an ok FPS, the Ninja chick was my favorite and the QTE cought me by suprise and was'nt that great. The Graphics are good, looks "next gen" enough, but the Animation is straight Oblivion.....eww.

Its a cool concept, dunno if co-op will be in the final game but, i can see fun coming from this. but now its not a must buy/play.

Have you played Timeshift?
