Warhawk - It's out, Dev team 'shattered'...what now?

I can't help but wonder when, or even if, we'll ever see any new content for this game.

I love this game to death, absolutely, but today, while I was just 'bored' watching videos, I cam across the old TGS vids, and thought, man, wouldn't it be awesome to experience something like this?

http://www.gametrailers.com/player/13316.html

I mean, the level with the Airships is awesome. Can you imagine having 5 or 6 of those floating around as zones, with area's you can kind of explore, loaded with weapons, hovering over the sea? It would just be amazing (and pretty cost efficient too, you could make one model 6 times, or two models 3 times, who knows)

Then I saw the footage of these armies, with what looked like nearly 32 people on one team, lol, going against each other.

Wouldn't it be awesome to have a 'last mand standing' sort of thing? Like just a huge semi flat wooded landscape where it was 16 v 16, you get a few respawns each, until the other team is completely eliminated.

I just want to see some more area's that sort of push you to play a certain way. It would be awesome to see a 'city' that was comprised of floating buildings and bridges (think venice) that would put an emphasis on close quarters combat.

It would even be nice to maybe see something a bit more urban, perhaps a few buildings that are a bit more explorable, with tons of open windows for sinpers, etc.

The one thing I don't want to see is the open ended nature removed. THe game absolutely has to retain everything for every map, the turrets, the warhawks, the ability to just play the game how you want it. That's what makes it so amazing.

After all that, I chose to watch some older trailers, and MAN has this game come fucking far.

WTF!? The game looked like SHIT. Gladly, it turned out absolutely marvelous.

Anyway, does anyone else share similar feelings? It's just really sad that the studio was 'dissolved' so to speak. I hope that some of the originals stay behind at SCEA to really make this engine, and more so, this game (hopefully series?) shine. I want more dammit.

Those who didn't go to Eat Sleep Play went to Sony Santa Monica. Dylan Jobe is there (and probably in charge of a small team) so they'll be handling the support of the game from now on. I don't think you need to worry about it.

Those are actually really good ideas, I'd love to see those floating airships act as spawn points. Also the last man standing is a good idea but I can't help but imagine a bunch of pubbies running off in different directions and grabbing sniper rifles just to sit behind a bush and make it crappy for everyone else. Like I said, good idea but it needs to be refined a bit

Wait, so they just distributed Incognito throughout SCEA? I thought everyone left Sony except 5 members.

I thought it was a team of 6 :lol

Either way, I really hope Sony puts some much needed effort into this game. It's so damned good, it will literally piss me off to no avail to see it go unsupported for so long. 6 people simply won't cut it to keep it in tip top condition.

As for the air ships, I think it would be awesome to have turrets beneath the ships, but not like FLAK or AA turrets, just something simple, like a machine gun turret to take out warhawks that might be hiding underneath (that would prevent them from being overpowered w/no place to hide).

I would frickin LOVE parashoots!!

PLEASE make it happen SONY

Oh and moving spawn points ala those flying ships as well
It would be really awesome if those flying ships acted like the aircraft carriers in Battlefield 1942... where a person could control it and move it where ever albeit very slowly....

That would be awesome :D
sadly I highly doubt anything will happen of the sort will happen... :(

I also highly doubt that we will get any extra content at all... its sad really

There is an IGN “Podcast Beyond” episode with Dylan Jobe right before release (or right after? I forget) and he seemed to imply that they would be supporting it with DLC (of the non-nickel and dime kind) in the future. I’m paraphrasing--if somebody wants to look it up and provide specifics of what he said, please do—I’m too busy at the moment...

Such a stupid move to close down the studio while the game is pretty succesfull. With the right marketing this game or it's sequel could have become the "Halo" or "BF2" in terms of online play on the PS3.

I don't want to call Dylan Jobe a liar, nor anyone else, but what developer hasn't said that this generation?

Everyone say's they'll support their game with DLC, but in the end, it's something we just might have to do without. How many maps were released for Resistance? How many for Gears? How many updates did GT: HD recieve? Motorstorm? I can go on and on for games on both systems, by multitudes of developers...it's just not something that this generation is ready for. The industry is still too small, IMO.

ehm, studio fell apart, sony apsorbed leftovers into Santa Monica studios, from where is game currently supported.

Incognito is hiring. So I assume the studio will continue to live, and grow.

As far as DLC, I'm pretty sure they said it will come. We'll just have to wait and see.

This isn't surprising - WarHawk was a nightmare project, and was mysteriously in development for 4-5 years.

Pretty sure there's no way they'll ever make money on if, after all of that, even if it did turn out as well as it did.

It does look like they were planning this from way back before it was even decided it was multiplayer only, however:

Most of those look like items already on the Warhawk simply broken down into smaller 3D models in order to make mock up images for the PS Store.

I just can't see it happening. IMO, like I said, the industry isn't big enough.

When a development studio can contribute 30 people to JUST DLC, and the masses have given into DLC as a 'norm'...then it'll happen. But today, teams are still too small, and moving on to newer projects where bigger money is made, and DLC just hasn't taken off yet (most studios haven't even found that sweet spot for content vs pricing).

It's a shame Warhawk couldn't get it together as a complete game, but what they did manage is full of win. It would be interesting to hear about the actual problems the game ran in to that forced the change. I mean, it seems like the SP couldn't be THAT broken.

The airship level is an awesome idea. I want some kind of aerial troop transport but without a higher player count such a vehicle would be pretty useless. What I really want though, and it's likely never going to happen, is a single player campaign.

It's pretty amazing how much better the game looks than those early videos. I'm not sure if they're all still up but just check out the first and second videos up on the NA PSN store. Leaps and bounds.

I think a simple tech demo with a ton of the planes flying and shooting would be cool. Goal would be just to survive. I'd buy it.

A team of 6 people working fulltime can accomplish a lot considering they are probably working on optimizing/tweaking net code and additional maps and weapons that are most likely well past concept stages already.

Insomniac has about 150 employees. Of those, how many do you think are still working on MP? I don't think I could see them having anywhere near 10% of their employees (about 15) working on it right now.

EDIT: BTW, the disc-only version of War Hawk comes out tomorrow for $40.

Podcast Beyond, Episode 8 - August 13, 2007 - starts at 21 minute 25 second mark

We'll definitely do downloadable content... I'm a firm believer that downloadable content needs to be driven by what they players want, and not some hidden revenue source where we stick content into the game and like they pay to unlock it later... I think that breaks the publisher-gamer trust. And so we've looked through the public beta and got a lot of really great feedback as to features and layout elements that players wanted in a new level, and also some new vehicle stuff... so we're rolling all of that and we're going to be moving forward with that. No official announcements right now.

He later alludes to an itunes model for DLC right after this statement, but I'm too lazy to transcribe more of the podcast.

Whatever content they give us, if any, it must become free at some point for everyone. All it'll do if they charge for it is splinter the community. We've seen that time and time again in other console online games that get extra content.

Oh god and turn the game into a sniper heaven?

Maybe sniper rifles would become more useful :O

But they could implement a way to pull the zipcords (if that's what they're called) to drop to the ground faster or let loose on the zipcords to drop slower but have more control/accuracy

this game is a potential goldmine for sony. i can see loads of people buying new maps or other items. i cant see them abandoning it.

You mean 2 shotting a warhawk with a sniper isn't already overpowered?

I never said they were underpowered but they're not used near as much as I'd like to see them used. If there were parachutes it would give you an incentive to pick one up, plus if the paratroopers had a good degree of control it would be a nice balance

No one uses sniper rifles in Warhawk (especially with Binoculars around). The ones that do are just fooling around.

PS. If you can get shot down by a sniper in a warhawk, then maybe you shouldn't be in a warhawk then. :lol

The floating skybattle map looks really cool. Destroyed Capital is cool but not that awesome.

I always wanted a snow map or another topical map with sandy beaches and clear blue water. Like archipela go but with the ground troops starting at sea level.

volcano map?

ChryZ said:
I beg to differ, Destroyed Capital is all kinds of awesome!
But going from gunship to gunship in the sky would be all kinds of awesome in all possible time frames or something like that.

Man, it would have been awesome to have 32 on 32. Also, those airship battles looks like they coulda been an awesome new mode. Too bad they didn't make the cut. I hope it comes out at DLC or Warhawk 2 some time.

Eucadia is a sniper's heaven, and I've taken down MANY Warhawks with the sniper rifle. Theres so many different strategic ways to do it. :D

Ecudia is Sniper Bohicalor heaven you can reach across the map with them.

The Sniper needs a third zoom in setting though.

sony would just pass it over to their internal teams, i hope they would, i mean warhawk sold pretty well for online only game... they have to keep the community supported

Does anyone have any clue how many copies this game has sold??not many retail but maybe a ton of downloads???its sad to see if this game goes un supported, because its really good. I just think that with the dev team spliting up and Socom supposedly coming out this year on PSN this game might go to die by early next year :(

Sony drop the price to 19.99$ on PSN already!(I would asume they sell a ton at that price)

I really hope we'll see this "new content". I've only had this game since last friday, but I can easely see the benefit of new maps after a while.

Instead of adding a lot of content to the current game they should really make a story driven game with the assets. They know it would be successful now and some sort of Star Fox/Star Wars thing could be really sweet.

I don't think we need new maps as much as we need some new modes that place 16v16 games on some of the smaller non-symmetrical layouts. Of course if they did release new maps I'd buy them in an instant.

That second video was interesting. I was wondering if they ever considered building damage.

The first video..... Jesus. That was awesome.

There is going to be new DLC for Warhawk in the next few weeks, this was "unofficially" confirmed at TGS by various Sony people.
