Xbox Originals – Known Issues

There are some known issues with Xbox Originals. With all game titles, publisher logos at the start of a game can be choppy on first play when caching. Also, any additional content within a game (such as a demo or trailer) is not supported by Xbox Originals titles and selecting those options may result in crashing the game (requiring a restart of the console).

There are also some issues unique to specific game titles, as follows:

Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge: There is some minor flickering at the top of the screen that happens very rarely. The “Press A to Continue” message is missing when the host player leaves a multiplayer game. Additional content within the game (such as demos & trailers) are not supported and selecting those options may result in crashing the game (requiring a restart of the console)

Fable: There are some random bursts of audio static and some minor texture issues and a short hang up when removing tattoos. Additional content within the game (such as demos & trailers) are not supported and selecting those options may result in crashing the game (requiring a restart of the console)

Fuzion Frenzy: There are some minor frame rate issues. Additional content within the game (such as demos & trailers) are not supported and selecting those options may result in crashing the game (requiring a restart of the console)

Halo: There are some very mild frame rate drops.

Psychonauts: HDMI 720p is not supported for PAL users. Running the game in 720p over HDMI will result in the game locking up for PAL users. If you are using HDMI output, set the resolution to 1080i or 1080p (anything but 720p)

Also of note is that all Xbox Original titles will have the manual in digital form available on Xbox.com and since these are direct emulations they will also lack achievements.

Right, I guess the last thing is to ask if the dear readers which to include or see any included in this OP?

Nice post.

Xbox Originals is a great idea, the only problem is that I want Freedom Fighters, Jet Set Radio Future and a few others, and i'd be willing to pay 1200 points, but I don't know how long it'll take for them to get the games onto the service, im not sure im willing to wait 6 months for MS to sort that out...

That could be something in the future, my research has shown nothing as far as how/where/when\what future Xbox Originals will be relayed to the public, but I suspect it will be GamerScoreBlog.

I can has MvC2??

This might be the ONLY way MvC 2 will come to a download service, as I understand it it Capcom can publish the orginal game only in its original form, and that is basically what this is, direct emulation.

i'm finding it tough justifying a $15 purchase for BC borked product. if all the games were flawless i'd have an easier time swallowing the price. $10 would have been the sweet spot for me for the games as-is.

otoh, i will be supporting psychonauts solely.

I wouldn't mind Sudeki, always wanted to try that. Any word on Fable LC?

Well, according to the Xbox.com, they as for some reason using the orginal version of Fable.

I was one, if only Shard could have had the op for the the XBLA thread Shard is Queens Boulevard the XBLA thread, oh and PR release thread oh and well you get the point.

As for the originals, well I'm prob gonna splash out on Crimson Skys its a SonuvaBitch to find here in the UK and I rules online in that game :D

I'll be buying Psychonauts, but that's it in the first wave. I'm looking forward to this taking off, though. $15 is a bit steep for some of these, but worth it for others.

I wonder if the games are going to be region free?

I know this probably affects about 12 people on the board but ..

I presume that users will be locked out of Originals marketplaces that aren't the same region they live in now (like the Video marketplace) but will an out of region Xbox be able to play Originals titles?

I didn't see anything specific in regards to that, but I do think it is safe to assume that the content will be region locked. It is more of a question of how locked that content will be? Will, it be like the XBLA where somebody can just make a region specific Xbox Live Silver account and viola, you can get the game, or will it be like the TV shows and movies where there is extra protection?

you're in luck! frys.com has Halo, Fable, Psychonauts, and Fuzion Frenzy for 8-10$ a piece! new copies even!

Is there anything that these downloads have that the original disc playing on 360 doesn't?

No, no there is not, this really is the Microsoft version of the Virtual Console, just straight software emulation.

I expect it to be region locked in the manner that the video content is region locked. I think thats 100% certain at this point. In this respect the Market is locked.

What I am also wondering is will the games be region locked in the manner that the original disc based games are region locked (Halo is region free tho).

basically will I be able to play US Psychonauts download on a Japanese machine (Thats in the US)?

All 12 of us ...

questions:

do these and other downloadable XBLA game tie in with your Live account? in other words, if your xbox craps out one day (or you decide to delete the content from your HD) will these still be available to download for free to your account, or are you shit out of luck?

thanks.

I think so but I am not 100% certain at this stage.

So will you continue be signed out of live then with these too.?

Signed out of Xbox Live? I am not exactly sure what this means, the post is vague and poorly worded.

I would actually like Out Run 2006 Coast 2 Coast. I can only find the PS2 version of this at Gamestop, and I want the Xbox version.

What is so special about the Xbox Version?

The convenience of not having to hunt for the original box and disc when you can just play without ever leaving the couch. It's the remote control factor, which is immeasurably huge. This is one of the reasons I enjoy XBLA so much: convenience.

I think he means: will the dashboard guide be usable?

Does anyone know if having these games on the HDD will affect load times significantly? I'm particularly interested in Burnout 3 (never got all the medals) and am glad that it doesn't seem to have any known issues as of yet.

Sorry like someone mentioned I meant to ask if you will be able to use the dashboard.

Great, so it sounds like the emulation quality will be about the same as BC games :(

Here I thought if they were specializing in only a few games at a time with this service, it'd be 100% emulation without issues.

Yea, I am thinking that the issues that plague the current BC games will still apply to the Xbox Originals, a bit lazy if you ask me.

I don't think Capcom could put out Marvel based games without renewing the license. Capcom had a ton of Marvel based games back in the day, all of which were left off of Capcom Classics Collections.

I'll probably be buying Psychonauts, Burnout 3, Fable and Crimson Skies, but I dunno... they are still pretty expensive.

Is Fable the original version or the Lost Chapters version? Releasing the original seems kind of pointless to me.

I sold my PS2 copy of Psychonauts (yeah blasphemy I know, wonky camera in the
underwater
level turned me off) so I'll download that one. Probably not Halo. I can't justify fifteen bucks just because it'd be nice to have it on the HDD.

Okay, in order, it looks like Microsoft is going with the original version of Fable from the website and also the Xbox version is decidedly better then the PS2 version navie version wins against dodgy port.

Is the PAL region version of Halo going to be the normal 50Hz-only PAL edition, or the proper NTSC one? I pessimistically suspect 50Hz, which would be a shame. I would totally buy a 60Hz version of Halo.

Which one is BC, or are they both?
