Enjoy.

IGN Wii: Talk about the monster creation feature. How elaborate is it?

Kelly Tainton: Let me say this again. Millions of different combinations! You can have a monster that is made up of a wrench for an arm, a fish head in a glass bowl, a torso made out of a truck, and legs made out of tree vines. The quality of all of your parts is based on how well you perform the experiments that make them, and what type of part you make is determined on the ingredients you used to make it. The amount of experimentation is nearly endless.

Tell us about the multiplayer mode.

Kelly Tainton: Yes, Monster Lab includes a multiplayer mode. You can fight any of your friends, or people on your friends list. You battle monsters they have created, vs monsters you have created during your single player experience.

I was wondering when we would hear more about this game.

I've been excited for this since it was first announced. Pokémon meets Psychonauts meets Overlord meets Wind Waker; I don't think you can go wrong.

Looks pretty cool in motion - The artstyle is kinda cool. It gets my seal of approval (for now)

but seriously though what is the genre?

Aww you didn't even post the good stuff.
I came here to post a link but eh.
Game sounds sweet.

Video looks cool.

Also, based on the end of the video, looks like a DS version is in the works.

Looks interesting so far. I'm curious as to the depth of the gameplay, but the customization certainly looks interesting.

Looks great, but no 16:9. What the fuck are they thinking?

Yeah, I missed that during my first read-through, but it really is a silly, silly omission to ignore 16:9 - especially as good as it looks already.

Being a Wii game, there are many smaller quicker mini games.

Note to developers: Just because it is a Wii game, does not mean you NEED to add mini games.

Also it would be nice if you could play online vs. random opponents, or maybe even team battles. But maybe those will be additions for Monster Lab 2.

Still, it looks interesting, this one is definitely one on my radar.

You know the Wii has made mini-games a bad bad word/phrase, but really a lot of games feature mini-games in addition to or as part of the main game and no one complained about them then.

As long as it isn't the only thing in the game and it works well, I don't see a problem with it.

Brawl sucks because it has a minigame in it.

It's true.

hopefully when they say that they don't support a native 16:9 mode, they mean that the Wii can't output at 853x480, so while the resolution isn't natively 16:9, they have a mode where the aspect ratio is 16:9... hopefully

Absolutely agree, I have nothing against mini games, as long as they are done well and work within the context of the game.

I was merely making a point about how developers seem to think that since a game is on the Wii they have to include mini games in some fashion, even if it is just a tacked-on afterthought.

Hopefully this game includes the former and not the latter.

From the makers of Street Figher II Turbo HD Remix.

:D

Was hoping for some more info and we've finally got some.

IGN Wii: So the title uses Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection to play online against your people on your friends' list.

Kelly Tainton: Yes.

Wow, I'm surprised how good this game looks.

On the visual style, I really like the shinning effect when the video opens, but not in gameplay. I'm guessing the white shinning reflection has a meaning when there's a heavy light source, but not in any place, like the game shows. I'm guessing they should have gone for black shadows ala Killer7 in such situations (or a mix of both).

Good to hear from this again - it's been a while. Definetly interested. The video looks quite nice - I dig the style. No 16:9 is a bit puzzling but it looks like a pretty small budget affair. Playing it stretched is acceptable under those circumstances I guess.

you actually play minigames when you build your monster (like the pic on IGN with the solder) and your "perfomance" will affect your monster's stats. this is what the dev team said when the game was announced.

it sounds like a pretty smart way to put minigames in
