Is GhostSeed still around? If not, could a mod help?

I think it would be neat if we put the custom stages from this thread on the OP and try to keep it updated as more come. It will be nice to have them all in one place.

I made a list with what I gathered, I hope I didn't miss anything. Sorry about some of the names, I didn't load test all of them and not all have the name on the link/filename (same for the moonspeak titled ones). Also didn't play anything I loaded yet, planning to do so later and I'll try to comment on them. This took longer than I expected but it was worth it. Sound load is a pain sometimes, but when it works it's wooo~.

There's a link to the sound file + a link to the original post where the stage was posted. Most of those posts have descriptions and some will have pics. Click on whatever interests you.

I tried to make this funcional, not pretty. There's no particular order. I also listed the ones that have broken links hoping you guys are still around to rehost. Don't leave us out of the fun! :)

Hope it's useful. Download away!

IGN Interview with D3 the US Publisher
http://ds.ign.com/articles/855/855028p1.html
"It is an honor to bring a ground-breaking game by a respected developer like Treasure to North American game enthusiasts," said Yoji Takenaka, chief operating
officer, D3PA. "Bangai-O Spirits contains many key elements that define a truly enjoyable videogame-the innovation in both technology and gameplay make this
a must-have title for everyone who owns a DS system."

Bangai-O Spirits provides gamers with addictive shooter gameplay, punishing supermoves and a sensory overload of fireworks onscreen, with strategic and tactical elements and Treasure's quirky design style. The game also offers co-op, competitive multiplayer for 1-4 players via local wireless, a powerful level editor tool which allows
players to edit in-game levels or create new ones from scratch, and the revolutionary new ability to transfer data among DS systems through sound data transfer technology
known as Sound Load.

Never before utilized for DS systems, the Sound Load technology in Bangai-O Spirits allows players to transfer level data among DS handheld systems via the use of
sound and the DS microphone. This technology works by taking the level data and turning it into a sound file which is output through the host DS speaker. This
data is then interpreted through the microphone of the recipient DS, and the level transfer is complete!

It is also possible to upload and circulate sound files of level data from Bangai-O Spirits online via the Internet, or to save files to a recording device like a PC or jump drive for transport and distribution, allowing gamers to catalog, share and compare levels online easily with gamers all over the world! Widening the range of play and interaction even further, gamers can also deliver high score and gameplay footage as transferable sound files by using Sound Load. More details about this unique feature will be forthcoming soon.

Early pre N64 Bangai-O History
There was a great thread earlier this week that didn't get much attention but may reveal the 80's origins of the Bangai-O series.

MORE TO COME!

And thanks to Lee N for some traslation help and some of the artwork. :)

We should post our user-levels in here as well once everyone gets it. I'm going to buy a PC mic just for this game!

That's not what you want.. you want a regular audio cable with one 3,5mm stereo plug at each end.

Like this:

You just connect it from the headphone port on your DS to the line-in/microphone port on your computer and then you can record from the DS.

This is going to be an interesting month for Japanese DS games...

Don't worry, I'll have impressions for both late tonight.

That is already out? keeping up with imports is hard. I wish there was some thread like the "Upcoming NA Releases" one but for imports.

Bangai-O is already out today.
The "rest of the suckers" includes sp0rsk because he should have been picking up early yesterday, not today.

I am somehow withholding the urge to import. :(

Well even assuming IGN date is right (it's probably not) it's not too far off.

I can't wait to try out some other GAFers home made levels.

I fear that the US release will be neutered in some way, like they'll pull the level creating/sharing bit or some such thing. I may import the Japan region game to avoid this. I don't want to have to buy the game twice if it isn't cut, though. I bought the Japanese Dreamcast Bangaioh because I was certain such a niche game would never get localized, but I was pleasantly proven wrong. It was a costly victory, though - both US and Jpn versions of the previous Bangaioh cost me about $90 or so in total. I don't want to spend that much again on another Bangaioh...not that it isn't worth it, though.

Duh, it's a shmup. I can live with some moonlanguage menu. Import all the way but I'm in Europe so it's not like I have another choice.

Well considering that Play Asia is asking $129 for a used Japanese copy you could probably sell that version and at least break even. :P

Yeah, the Japan DC version of Bangaioh has turned into one of the rarer DC imports, it seems. I just can't bring myself to sell it, though. It's just too cool. The disc itself has a giant green watermelon graphic on it, encompassing the entire disc face - how awesome is that? And oddly enough, I found that the Japan version of the game is brighter, more colorful than the US version, as if the gamma was turned down in the US version for some reason.

Colorful brightness ≠ edgy, mature and cool, I suppose.

-_- well shit! I'm still gettin' it on the way home.

I just picked this game up today! Now I just need to finish teaching these smart-ass Japanese kids math so I can play it...

I looked at youtube link, but can somebody explain in a couple of lines what the game is about??

It's a non-forced scrolling shooter that rewards chains via explosions. Like a lot of treasures shooters, it has a lot of 'puzzle' elements that will provide opportunities to find the 'optimal' path for scoring during the course of a level. When enemies and missiles explode, they will take out adjacent enemies and enemy missiles. Your task in the level is to destroy all of the enemies in the way that will reward you with the most points through chains.

This game is hard. And it starts hard. The first real stage, I have yet to beat, it starts out easy, but then you walk into this room that just bombards you with missles and its very hard to not die.

Basically the game is 150 custom, crazy levels with no story or anything(the story is in the tutorial, sorry no English). The stages vary from a typical bangaioh stage to a stage where you are trapped in a small box and youre supposed to kill these enemies with these soccer balls that are lined up just outside your cage. There's this one stage I thought was pretty funny which was basically Bangaioh pachinko, you are trapped int his long tunnel and you have to hit this mini basketball up and out of the crack at the top of the stage, and as it drops it hits these mines that send it bouncing all over the place, and if you hit it right, it destroys the mines at the bottom and you clear the stage. There is one particularly evil stage that I can't beat which involves a series of destroyable and non destroyable blocks. The objective is that you have to get to the top, but the problem is that the non-destroyable blocks way outnumber the destroyable ones, so you really have to pick and choose which blocks you destroy as the non-destroyable ones are constantly falling and trying to trap you.

I haven't gotten into the edit mode too much yet, but judging by all the crazy shit in the regular mode (all stages were made with the edit tool) it's going to be fucking awesome. The little I did play with it was quite impressive. You can make the stage target pretty much any sprite in the game, you can cut, copy paste you can enlarge the map to any size its basically up to how creative you can get.

Oh and the "sounds" that you use to send stages sound like a modem.

Edit: Just reading through the manual right now, you can fucking change the size of sprites too. You can also set the starting health and SP of your character, you can even set both to infinite.

It sounds awesome. I really hope I get my copy of the game tomorrow - I went with EMS shipping but the tracking page is really slow with the updates.

How many custom stages can you store on the cart?

My friend has been telling me he can't get it working. He tried the stage sp0rsk put up but just can't get it working.

the stage sp0rsk put up has alot of what seems like unintentional static though. the other mp3s i've downloaded so far have been alot cleaner.

oh well, we'll see. My copy of the game is here in Sweden now, so I should get it tomorrow.

I tested it myself and it was kind of a bitch to get it to work.

I turned up my volume way up, and then placed it in front of my speaker, not too far not too close, but directly in front of it. Then it worked.

Hey Sp0rsk, did you see Time Hollow at the store when you got it? I won't be able to join in this thread this weekend because P-A never got any Time Hollow in :(
