HOLY FUCKING SHIT

The Hollywood Reporter has announced that Michael Cera will be taking the lead in Scott Pilgrim's Little Life, which will be directed by none other than Edgar Wright.
The movie will be based on the first volume of Brian Lee's popular Scott Pilgrim series.

It is a long way from the usual graphic novels optioned -- which all seem to be post-apocalyptic or deconstructed superheroes of late. Pilgrim is a 23-year-old slacker, who meets the girl of his dreams. To win her heart, he must defeat her seven evil ex-boyfriends. It's chock full of video game references, from evil bosses to power-ups, but manages to stay fairly grounded in reality. The first volume takes a very surprising twist, and it just gets better from there.

One of my friends, a man of impeccable taste and intelligence, calls it the best comic ever. Due to it being released in trades, I never seem to have quite enough money to buy it -- but I've really liked what I have read. You can enjoy an entire issue (posted as part of Free Comic book Day) over at Newsarama. Apparently, this is the most addicting comic book series to ever be published, so you have been warned. We'll see if the addiction carries through to the big screen -- but so far, I think it is off to a brilliant start.

Don't know what Obama has to do with it...but awesome news!

MOTHERFUCKING RIGHT SON.

I always imagined Scott Pilgrim a little.... cooler than Michael Cera but this will still pwn my face off.

It's cool to see Wright involved. Cera is awesome, but I don't really see him as Scott Pilgrim.

If he can pull it off though...

I still believe there is untapped range in Young Cera, just waiting for the right projects to stop pigeonholing him.

I don't know how to feel

Wright is awesome
But Cera sucks

...I want to be hyped for it, yet I don't want to be.

Also...what does Obama have to do with this? Special guest star:lol

Two great tastes don't always taste great together.

This is pretty awful casting. Pilgrim's awkward but he's not a dweeb.

I have no clue what is so special about Scott Pilgrim but I do love me some Edgar Wright. Still, somehow it feels odd to see a Edgar Wright movie without Nick Frost and Simon Pegg in the lead. Hopefully they will be in the movie aswell.

Never heard of this Scott Pilgrim comic series till now. I checked out Amazon to see what it's about, and it honestly doesn't sound appealing. Maybe if I see how it's executed in art, dialogue, and what not, I'll think differently.

Gawd. There's so much out there in the world of comics/graphic novels that I don't really know where to begin.
I haven't even read Watchmen, or read anything by Ennis Garth, and - outside of Transmetropolitan and a little bit of Orbiter and Global Frequency - Warren Ellis :(

You see this picture? I'll tell you something funny!

They're supposed to be walking TO the movie theatre but the corner they started from to cross the street is the location of The Paramount; the biggest movie theatre in downtown Toronto. It's kitty-corner from that big building, which is the CHUM building.

So they're in fact walking AWAY from the theatre. Huh-huh. Huh-huh. Huh-huh.

Guys? GUYS?
Pretty sure they're going the right way.

Edit: Too fast for you.

Or maybe I'm not a fan of crappy dialog.

So uh, care to let those of us who have no idea what this comic is all about in on what makes it great?

Nope, not bitter. I just don't enjoy forced indie vibe garbage. But you can enjoy your Moldy Peach records and splooge over Thundercats references.

Hey now, not everyone who liked Juno likes the Moldy Peaches.

I bought Volume 1 a couple years ago based on a friend's recommendation, and I didn't find it that great. It started out fine, but I lost interest when it turned into Gitaroo-Man: The Scott Pilgrim Chronicles. Strangely enough, I found V1 more interesting when it was covering the more mundane aspects of Scott's life and relationships. The whole
defeat the 7 ex-boyfriends thing
just wasn't my cup of tea. I've played around with getting V2 to see if things pick up, but why bother?

And Kirkman's Walking Dead is officially the most addicting comic on the market.

As for Cera. Unlike the rest of GAF, I don't love him enough to watch any project with him in it. Arrested Development was hilarious, but I'm not going to watch everything with a cast member from AD in it.
