Reason finally put a video of the story up (produced and narrated by Drew Carey)

It's a LONG video but it's well worth understanding this horrible case.

Alternately, you can read this story about it. I realize how long both of these are.... but it's well worth your time. Just horrible, just horrible.

They found a half of a roach and a gram or two of marijuana. Enough for a misdemeanor or a slap on the wrist.

So they were just flat-out wrong and the dude had no reason to expect police breaking down his door. =/

This shit happens all the time. It's called a no-knock warrant. They just bust in. This is sort of like that case where the 92 year old woman fired on cops breaking into her place and was killed. The cops always say they identified themselves, but more often than not I am betting that they just bust in because any warning they give they feel lets the criminals flush evidence. The thing is this case is compounded with Mississippi wagon rounding, where judge, jury, and police are all in collusion. Without a true outside influence this shit will happen ALL THE TIME. It really pisses me off. Just another reason to hate police and the rest of the 'justice' system.

This is a relatively new phenomenon. It was only recently approved by the right-wing Supreme court in 2006 and the opinion was written by that son-of-a-fascist Scalia.

This is what you get when you vote Bush:

The outcome might have been different if O'Connor were still on the bench. She seemed ready, when the case was first argued in January, to rule in favor of Booker Hudson, whose house was searched in 1998.

O'Connor had worried aloud that officers around the country might start bursting into homes to execute search warrants. She asked: "Is there no policy of protecting the homeowner a little bit and the sanctity of the home from this immediate entry?"

She retired before the case was decided, and a new argument was held so that Justice Samuel Alito could participate in deliberations. Alito and Bush's other Supreme Court pick, Chief Justice John Roberts, both supported Scalia's opinion.

These are the types of things that finally got Drew Carey to wake up and leave the GOP for the Libertarian party.

JayDubya, I don't know how you can approve of Scalia with decisions like this.

This is exactly some of the horrible injust shit that slowly weakens peoples belief in equity. We all think it's dismal, but we don't feel it's relevance, and the more we see or hear about it, the more we act indifferent towards it.

I think that it works both ways. I think some people already tending towards indifferent will become moreso, but I also think there are more and more people that slowly become righteously angry.

When you find out, let me know because I wanna sign too. The amount of money spent on tracking down, capturing, prosecuting, and imprisoning non violent drug offenders is nothing but a huge waste of money, IMHO. William F. Buckley would have signed on as well but he's gone now.
