Hope its not old.

Unfortuantely the article doesn't say if its a remake or a new retro-style Gradius...the subtitle could mean either way too. Hrm.... ~_~

It did mentioned new in the Gradius series.

huhhh

If they put as much effort into this as they did any of the arcade Gradius games (or Gaiden, I suppose), I might have to get a Wii.

Is there a wired joystick, or is hooking it up to the wiimote the only option?

and remember konami; turn continues off by default and i'll love you forever

edit: the hori stick is wireless only =/

Wherever Gradius is, I will be there.
The series hasn't let me down yet (well, apart from Gradius III...)
This does look like a remake of the first game with new sprites, though :/

What sucks is that I already bought the Famicom and PC Engine versions of Gradius on VC. This is starting to take the piss a little.

I hope Konami gets around to somehow bringing back Goemon too. That's further off the radar of modern gamers than Gradius, though, so it's probably a bit less likely unless the VC game did surprisingly well. (Which would be nice.)

visual style is very like gradius gaiden -- i wonder if it's reusing assets. i hope it's a new game rather than a remake.

Why didn't Konami announce this at their conference? I guess publishers really are starting to give up on E3? :lol

Is it greedy of me to want a Parodius rebirth as well? I am much too weaksauce for true Gradius, but the pure awesomeness of Parodius siphoned many a quarter out of my pockets when I was younger...

Other then that: yay!

For those who cannot access the site:
Background info:
When you click on a link, your browser notes the current page that you are on and sends that information (the HTTP "referer" header) to the server of the new web page. This way the server of the new web page knows which page you viewed last. In famitsus case, if you're coming from another site you'll simply be kicked off. If you block referrer information, the server of the page you are requesting will not know what page you came from. Some servers deny access to their pages if that happens, others (like famitsu) serve the page nonetheless. This policy is left to the server or site operator, so it is sure to change from site to site.

Workarounds:
The *usual* way of sending an empty referer is clicking in the address bar and hitting enter once you're encountering the error page. Otherwise open a new tab and copy&paste the URL over.

If you're using <advertisement>Opera, the best browser ever</advertisement> you can press F12 (or option-F12 if you're using OSX).
Uncheck this:

...or use the "edit site preferences" tool accordingly (which is actually the preferred way of doing this).

If you use the OTHER acceptable browser, use a plugin (there are alternatives) or modify a setting. If you choose to fiddle with the setting instead of installing a plugin, make sure you know what you're doing.

Warning:
Keep in mind that disabling referrers globally will screw up some sites and clashes with the netiquette, so change it back after you're done. Operas' site preferences or most plugins on Firefox will make that setting site-specific so you needn't worry about that, it will be applied to famitsu only.

Disabling referrer logging will totally fuck you on some sites, and it's not a cool thing to do from a web provider point of view. Just hit enter in the URL bar :P

RefControl is your friend.

While I totally agree with you I didn't want to write a three-page essay on the subject. ;) I'll add a disclaimer or something to be on the safe side.

In Opera, you can turn of referrer logging specific for Famitsu.com. I only use the site for gaf news anyways.

Unrelated, but an Axelay Rebirth would make my wallet hemorrhage money.

Loved the game, but slowdown and flickering due to SNES technical limitations bugged me even back then. I'd hope that'd be a non-issue in a "Rebirth" rerelease.

an Axelay Rebirth would ROCK! I consider that game to be one of the best along with Contra III.

Back on topic, we now have Gradius and Gradius III on VC, where in the heck is Gradius II?? That one was awesome!

I have a friend who's going to be excited about this :D.

Me? Kinda like, but I've always been a Parodius whore to be honest, and I haven't seen a Parodius in ages. And I saw Otomedius at the arcades in Japan, and I thought it sucked :(. Parodius - goofy humour + loli = horrible game.

Where's my Parodius 5, KONAMIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII :'(.

It looks a bit like Gradius Generation.

First, we get Mega Man 9 8-bit style.

Now, Gradius Rebirth 16-bit style...

What's next? :D

I hope it doesn't disappoint like Star Soldier R(estriction) did, I was expecting a full-blown Star Soldier and got a time trial :(.

Also, Parodius WiiWare please :D!

It is interesting. Without new graphics and stuff, will the game be better than previous ones? Just like with Mega Man 9.

This would be a great challenge for devs. Everyone would try to make the best game they could. That's why I have been dreaming about a Super Mario World WiiWare Leveleditor with online share and ratings. What makes a level or game more fun than others?

The problem for me is, the people who were skilled at making sprites and music for old hardware have moved on to higher positions, and I don't trust the inexperienced people to do the job as well. Just a personal fear really, but I'm still to be convinced otherwise. Gradius had progressed so well with Gaiden and V, and I really feel like this is a step in the wrong direction. But I am a huge fan, so I won't really be disappointed unless it's truly dreadful.

Is this a full game? I only ask because of Star Soldier R, which was more than a little disappointing in scope.

If it was a time attack, they would make it clear before you download it, just like Star Soldier R did, but I suspect since SSR was at least in part a followup to the Hudson caravan and Gradius doesn't really have any historical equivalent, this should be a full game.
