700 points is pretty steep, even given the amount of content being proposed. I just bought Puzzle Quest when the price dropped and the game is repetitive enough that I really can't see myself opting for a new set of quests at 700 points rather than just playing through the base game again using another class.

It's a pity, because for 300-400 points, I'd be all over this.

Indeed, the price is a might steep, though on the other hand, this is probably the most fully featured DLC pack to hit the XBLA.

Sweeeeet. I am all over this. 200/200 on Puzzle Quest so should be straight in at the deep end with this.

So this Wednesday we have 1942, Go Go Break Steady, n+ levels and this? All in one week!? :O

Considering I spent over 100 hours playing PQ on XBLA, along with tons of multi-player online matches, I'm getting this day 1. Can't wait to see the new items and new character classes. Should be a lot of fun.

Same here....and I can't wait to

Niiice. I hope they add more music tracks. 700 only seems high since the base game is dirt cheap. Well worth it IMO, D1.

I put a 40-50 hours into the base game, on just one play through. I'm all over this. I might start up a new character and go all the way through the base game and expansion from scratch.

Can a hardcore PQ player who played a lot of the XBLA version refresh my memory ( I didn't play as much of the XBLA version as much as the DS version.)

Did the developers nerf the strategy of not using your level up skillpoints, and only improving your stats by buying them at the temple until the endgame?

I vaguely remember that I was able to create a monster character in the DS version who could one-hit-KO pretty much anything, but it was harder to do that in the XBLA version.

Good to see you on here.

But, what the hell? Where is it? 1942, Go Go Break Steady, and N+ levels are all up, but someone forgot to hit the green button for the PQ expansion. Who do I have to kill?

You can horde skill points and buy the rest from temple, but there's a set number of temple points you can buy, so it's powerful, but not totally abuseable.

Ah, so is it a set number of stat points buyable per level, or can you only buy a certain number of stat points per character?

Basically what I'm trying to get at is if the points get more expensive based on what level the stat currently is.

If you are only able to buy a certain number of points throughout the game, then there should be no correlation between the level of the stat and the cost of the stat upgrade like there is in the DS version, right?

I'm wondering if it's worth trying to just level up via the temple during the early game by gold grinding in the XBLA version in order to maximize your character's build for the endgame.

Gold grinding sucks.

Gold grinding sucks.

If I remember correctly, you can buy two temple points per level up and the cost does increase the higher the base stat is. So it pays off to gold grind early and buy all your points, then assign your regular, non-bought skill points. If you use your regular points first, then the temple cost will be exorbitant when you're level 50+ if you're pumping only one stat. The gold grind is not bad, if you know where to go.

Ah I see. Do you remember if it's to points per level all the way to level 50? Or is it two points per level for a maximum of x number of points?

Yeah, I remember the very first game of PQ I played on the DS and had a hell of a time pumping my stats until I had the eureeka moment and figured out that it would be a lot cheaper to buy all the stats when I'm a lower level.

I have my gold grinding paths worked out. It kinda sucks, though, that the best one I found was a route that goes through Bane's Citadel. Kinda defeats the purpose of early game gold grinding, hahaha.

Sure wish this was being released on PSN
It was 10$ on steam for the weekend, and 90% of people posting at gaf should have a capable PC for it. Plus, it's a great game to have on your laptop...

2 points per level all the way to 50.

Ah, thanks.

Welp, it's time to get my OCD on all over again. It should be fun trying out one of the new classes and then experimenting with the new items. Hopefully there's more music too.

100% agree. It is too expensive, should have been 400 pts max. I will end buying it however, I cannot stand that 200/250 achievement on my list. I know it is a shame...

So, did this pack ever come up?

No, not yet. Strange. I couldn't find the Puzzle Quest expansion, neither in new releases neither in all games. It is not out yet. (good thing for me since I do not have points or time for it this week)

There are 2 multiplayer maps for Marathon out today however (busy week) but they are pretty expensive (400 pts each).

Oh fuck, don't tell me they pulled a bait and switch on us.

yeah, I can imagine but I stop dealing with Steam, not intentionally though. Just haven't had time to deal with the whole re downloading, and with vista (oh boy), I dont even want to bother at times :(

Given that the original game should have been $20, it's a steal either way.

Great, great game. Everyone should buy this.

i just bought puzzle quest yesterday for 800pts, unless the expansion drops like the original i dont think i will ever bother.. i dont play it for the quests or story, just for the fun of the board

So after playing for a bit. The expansion feels like more of the same. I haven't tried a new character yet, but all my old characters have been nerfed, which is good for multi-player balance. I have one character which is still viable, the rest are not so broken. My chars which had 99999 experience started at level 58 or something like that, so halfway to 70 out of the gate. :|

Rune of Music is still godly. Unholy Lance is nerfed. Frozen Staff is nerfed. Knight morale is nerfed. I have only encountered one new item, a rune which was not very good. One new companion who is OK. The thundergear is interesting, but I doubt a good build comes of it, unless it abuses turn skipping. No new music heard yet, although there might be a new boss tune. Dunno, it's been a while since I've fought a boss.

Still need to spend more time with it and try out the new chars. I'm enjoying it. I've seen some pretty nasty new enemy abilities, such as a disease debuff that lasts for 100 turns (boss only). There's also a spell that prevents you from gaining mana, which is EVIL!

Will download when I get home. Hope my Druid didn't get nerfed too bad. On the other hand, it's good to know that they are trying to balance the game for MP. I'll probably go to lvl 70 with my current character, then try out one of the new ones.

My Druid is surprisingly holding up pretty well despite the nerf the Unholy Lance got.

I started playing as a Warlock and despite what his portrait may imply, his mastery is Earth and Water focused. I'm currently lvl 12 with him and so far, it seems his 1st spell is the most useful to me (does 4 dmg and +1 for every 4 water mana). He has several types of mana burning spells, like Chill Touch and Mana Burn.

I'm a bit too rusty since it's been a long time since I last played PQ, but the Warlock seems like a cool class...I dont see him replacing my Druid, though....Atleast, not yet!!

Oh, and Morale has been seriously nerfed now too...It's a good thing since there wont be anymore Knights that abuse it...but now it takes like many points on there just to get an extra resistance or life pt. now (it costs 3 for the warlock).
