Fable II: Molyneux Strikes Back - no online co-op at launch

via Giant Bomb

Microsoft's Gamerscore Blog updated today with information that even though the game has gone gold, Fable II is still being developed, and the ability for online co-operative play won't be in the game at launch.

This seems like an extremely temporary setback, as Microsoft's Sara "DirtyDiva" Nicholson is quick to mention that the update should be available within the first week of the game's launch. The glowing orbs that represent your friends in-game will still show, however, and you'll be able to trade with those players right away.

Still... considering this game seems to have gone gold like 19 times already, isn't it completely insane that the game is shipping in an unfinished state? Or is that just me?

Either way, Fable II will be in stores on October 21.

Why call it "Gold" when it's not even done.
Games going "Gold" has lost all meaning this generation.

Within first week

FIRST WEEK

Hear that?

FIRST WEEK

overpromise...

seriously. wtf. hopefully it won't end up being like the Viva Pinata one and we have to wait for Fable II - Trouble in Albion to get it.

First LBP doesn't get co-op creation at launch, now Fable 2.

MAN THE FUCK UP DEVELOPERS!

Although I am happy there are still patches coming later.

For them to finish the game? yah
The game is finished and anyone who wants to play online co-op can download the patch by the time they're finished playing the single player game.

Irrational nerd rage is inevitable though so please, feel free to continue.

Maybe they're testing certain aspects of the netcode before deciding on an update soon after. I'm sure this will put off a few players who prefer to play these games co-op until it's fixed though.

I don't think anyone in this thread is raged so much as confused by the fact that this game has supposedly been done since E3, yet is going to launch missing one of the big features.

Fable II have same system co-op?

From wikipedia:

While on the same console, a second player with their own account can drop in and out as a "henchman" to the first player. If the second player on the same console does not have an account of their own, the henchman is made in a brief create screen that pauses the game. Henchmen created this way are not saved into the main player's game. The first player also decides how much bounty the henchman will obtain, e.g. gold and renown. The second player will also be able to port any experience, renown and gold to their own Fable II game via a memory card if they have imported their character and not created the henchmen from scratch.

if the patch is really coming in the first week, no problem.
its prefer a slight delay over a broken co-op mode that destroys your save games or worse.

Seriously. The online co-op implementation was one of the major selling points. Hopefully it is all fine and dandy right after launch, but it's pretty clear the game is being rushed out without one of the major features operating. That actually makes me question how well it will work. But we'll see.

within the first week, its only a couple of days no big deal. Would you rather the game be delayed for a week or 2

Yeah, that's what I'm saying. Ultimately, I guess it won't be a huge deal since we're getting the patch. But this is still just... very odd.

So this really is a deal breaker for some of you? First week people, first week.
First week? Right. Because they kept their word about it being in the game from the start, right? If they get it out by the first week I'll be surprised.

It's not like they've pulled some kind of horrible scheme and said "oh yes, it'll be in" and then completely yanked it without saying anything. I imagine this was something they've been busting their ass over but just don't have good enough to ship on the disc. Boo hoo, I'll likely play through the game once before people can come into my game and start shooting my family. I don't think this is some traumatically dire problem.

Not really. Going gold means the disc is done. Any changes that happen after a game has gone gold means you need to download them or get them in some other way because they wont be on the game disc.

Maybe if they didn't spend all their time working on pub games the game would be done! I'll never trust and Englishman again!

I don't think it is, either. But you can't fault those who do find a problem with it, and who bought the game to play with the feature. One week could turn into a month.
