Meteos Wars on XBLA this Wednesday (10 Dec!)

This game is retarded. I downloaded the demo and hated it, but still bought it cause it felt too damn weird to pass a Q game. I bought every Q XBLA game and soon to be PSN game tomorrow with Lumines Supernova without trying the demos but I still felt compelled to buy this game.

The controls do not work with this version, most of my tactics in the DS version simply do not work here cause of the control input. I know what meteos to launch, but most cases I don't have enough time to launch it. And when you get the game over warning signal? Mind as well give up cause you hardly have any time to react. If you had a stylus and touch screen, it'd be fine since survival is just a flick away. But no, you're using a controller and you have to carefully select the meteos you want to move and tap/hold X/A hoping you set it up in time. The gameplay doesn't really seem to be changed to accommodate the controls as you have to unnecessarily spend time setting up your meteos. My main strategy in the DS version was to mold the entire screen into a block and then launch the meteos, but in this version it's pretty difficult to keep the combos going because of the controls.

It just doesnt seem like the game is compensating for the controls. It's still pretty hectic but now you're limited in what you can do. The bottleneck is the controls and there's simply not enough lee-way for me to port my DS strategies to this version.

Oh well. For me, this is at the bottom of the list in terms of ranking Q's games.

I thought this game had the Poker Smash controls. Does it not, or do they just not work either? :(

I didnt really play Poker Smash. If I remember, you use the left analog to select a piece and the right analog stick to move pieces up and down, right? I dont think you can use right analog in Meteos unless it's hidden in the controls. But I don't see how that can fix it. Meteos simply has too many game pieces and it's very difficult to select the right Meteos piece you want to select in the game field. This adds up to valuable time wasted, especially if your strategy requires moving lots of pieces to set up for a huge Meteos launch attack.

You'd think it could work, so long as they decrease the game speed a bit to accommodate to you having to move a cursor around before you can move the pieces. Good thing they didn't even try that. Why wouldn't they ape the only really good way to do a Puzzle League-style game on a traditional controller? :|

Way to mess up my favorite puzzle game, Q.

Maybe I'm just being harsh. These are simply my initial impressions so maybe I'm missing something. I'll give it another try later but all I know is that I don't like what I just played.

So far I have only used the right analog for moving the pieces up and down. I don't think that helps a great deal though. Like Wario says, the warning is utterly useless. 5 seconds later and it's game over, and it takes about 3 or 4 seconds just to move to the meteo you want to move!

In the DS game, you'd generally have a shit load of meteos floating in the last stage, and keep things moving around while they sink slowly. In this version, there's no time for that, but I think they have compensated a little bit, by way of the CPU also having a hard time.

Fuck this game. Get that Disney Magic bullshit out of here.

I find that increasing the speed cursors to max helps a bit. I'm able to beat 100 Meteos attack in about 30 seconds with it max.

And right analog stick does move pieces up and down by default, I didnt know since the control screen didnt tell you that you could
