GAF QUOTES

The initial bad reaction is really quite simple to understand.

  • Atlus has made three SRPGs before this, and they are all bad.
  • The trend of DS SRPG spinoffs of major console RPG franchises is annoying, to say the least. Especially of major turn-based franchises, as these games are becoming rare enough as it is.
  • And the big one that spurred the kneejerk reactions: this is not the game that anybody who was following it was hoping for. Ask anybody what they think the ideal SMT DS game would be, and they'd say "something along the lines of the SNES games, but with the improvements EO brought to that formula." I know I would, at least.

Reading the scans themselves after my initial reaction didn't really help, either, honestly. It sounds like they took the concept directly from TWEWY, including the time limit. We'll have to see about how it's implemented, though.

I try not to judge just-announced games too harshly, and I don't expect it to be awful at all, but I am disappointed.

I know I would certainly be way more disappointed if they announced Persona 5 or Etrian Odyssey 3.

Yeah, I think the art is fine. It's a little kiddy but that's to be expected when most franchises go on the DS or Wii with their wider audience. It's not offensive or ugly like certain people (cough*cough*duckroll) think, it's just not as edgy or dark as most Megaten.

I sort of have a DS now, so I'm interested.
I also like the art style.

Game reminds me of TWEWY

I really, really don't like the hero design. The other stuff isn't that bad, though. Honestly, when the very first scan showed up, it was just an image of the hero, and I was worried it was going to be a Devil Children game or something.

I personally love eating fresh steaming shit out of the toilet bowl too, but I don't go around defending that fact! :lol

I would love a port of the Persona 2 titles to DS.

I know absolutely nothing about this game but will buy it anyway.

SCORES
Famitsu: 33/40
Penis Lord Weekly: 6.8"

I'll be picking it up for around ¥5,229 tomorrow, which is like $Fuck-you at this point in the conversion rates. I should be finishing CTDS's bonus dungeon tonight, so that means I can dedicate good time to this mofo.

I believe the most interesting part about this thread is how duckroll admitted to eating from the toilet bowl.

Also, RK, I thought you hated sRPGs?

I'm waiting for my SRPG Princess to come along and sweep me off my feet so I won't loathe the genre anymore.

You know what RK? I really don't think SMT can be done "right" as a strategy game. Although I'm going to see what you honestly think about this one. When you provide some impressions could you tell us how it feels SMT-like. Most importantly though is the music

What I want to know is why every character sports at least one long thin strip of wire snaking around their bodies.

It's probably the way they summon their demons, a terminal of some kind.

I like SMT, and I like strategy games. While I don't think much of the character designs (their eyes creep me the fuck out), I'm holding out hope for this game. Looking forward to hearing impressions.

She's just really surprised that the wind only raised her skirt just high enough to tease anyone viewing and not show off her panties. That or she can't believe she has to eat Rocky, the inferior Pocky knock-off.

As far as her breasts go, if my ex is any indication, perhaps the padding has just slipped a bit?

Majin Tensei brought some interesting ideas to the table. If this works out well enough, it could be pretty damn interesting. For me, it all depends on how character death, reinforcements and saving are handled. Those tend to be some of the things that sour me on SRPGs. If the maps are the right sized comparable to the amount of enemies around and the combat works with that number, that too would be a plus. (I mean, if combat between two units takes a few turns, ideally small number of units on the map and therefore smaller maps. Adjust as appropriate.)

This game has the actual fusion system, doesn't it?

I know both of these things have been absent from many games in the series, but to me what makes an SMT game awesome gameplaywise are Press Turn/1 More and demon fusion. If this was a strategy RPG that (somehow) included both, I think it would be pretty difficult for me not to enjoy it.

Eating Rocky while summoning demons. I'm all in.
Fixed.

And can you guys think about something besides her ginormous 17 year old breasts? Like... Hmm. Breasts.

Well that's going to be the only thing Atlus focuses on when they market it in NA.

"Play with a spunk snack loving chick with ample features"

I see what you're doing there.

I hope this works out better than your EOII thread because I'm pretty interested in this game.
Well, I did say in the title of the EO2 thread that no one was going to play the game!

I don't recall if anyone joined in with you and played the Japanese version but that thread motivated me to beat the first EO and quite a few people played the NA copy of EOII and completed it. I'll be interested to see what you and (hopefully) a few others think of this game but given that you dislike srpgs...

Well, given that I beat the damn bonus dungeon in CT tonight, I should be free to play it a decent amount.

I'd love to join you, but funds are tight right now and importing is quite a bit more expensive right now thanks to the stupid economy. :( I'm looking forward to your impressions, though.

I'd join you but I just picked up a copy of SMT2 for the PS1 that doesn't have the bugs in it. :) Cost me 8900 yen. :(

Maybe once I finish that and my run through of SMT3 Chronicle.

I just noticed everyone has a glowing light coming out of them, and the one girl has it out of her breasts. Amazing!

Speaking of breasts, we should discuss further about breasts of how new Tensei breasts developed next-gen systems breasts PS3 breasts breasts breasts breasts breasts breasts.

How did you just notice that? I was about to ask if the light was integral in surviving or possibly went on surviving once other survivors unsurvived.

Arrggh, she still looks so stupid and badly proportioned. What human has breasts that low on their body?

Why are their eyes so big?
Why does that guy have blue hair?
Why are their noses all the same tiny size?

Answer: It's a fucking anime-inspired game, what do you expect?

There is an anime that inspired Devil Survivor? What is it?

I JUST RIGHT NOW finished the bonus dungeons of Chrono Trigger DS, so I am about to pop this bad boy in. Just waiting on the credits scroll.

Although, I kinda want to play Chrono Cross right now. "/

The introduction is giving me weird MegaTen meets Megaman Battle Network vibes. This does excite The Netherlands in some ways, but as these kids are still talking I haven't gotten to any action yet.

And I seriously have to wonder what these game makers are trying to tell us. Nameless game had the TS, I'm sure something was in Another Code and now Devil Survivor has our heros wielding the COMP, the Communication Player which does everything, mail, phone, games and of course looks like the DS.

The technological future is Nintendo, people. It has been foretold in the prophecies.

Ooooh! I can't wait to hear from you or any other people about their impressions when you get to the meat of the game. I really, really want this game to come out in the States.

Music is pretty cool!
Did the first basic fight. Was really, really basic. Your standard SRPG as far as movement goes, but when you get into a fight it goes to the turn based thing. I see the enemy and I get bonus turns sometimes but I'm not yet sure what causes that.
