1P in the status bar means multiplayer, correct? They wouldn't make a single-player Contra, would they?

Contra + Wii = local multiplayer pretty much for certain

yeah they have been awesome this gen all they need to do now is make a new Castlevania like the old ones.

On another note Konami should totally do a 2d devil may cry.

Gradius ReBirth was half-assed? I rather liked it. Do tell.

No, Gradius ReBirth was a great $10 game. It gets huge amounts of hate on gaf by tons of people that have never played it. The criticisms were that it was too easy because it gave you unlimited continues (just don't continue?), had 2 instances of slow down, and had a great looking 16 bit style used in Gradius II, III, and IV, instead of the 8 bit style that most americans associate with gradius.

Its good, one of the more worthwhile $10 purchases on wii ware.

100 points of respect for you, sir.

Konami, please become the same company you were during the SNES / NES era, when every game you released was an achievement in gameplay and detail.

Hey, you're preaching to the converted. I pushed all the way to wave 3. I think you're maybe right in saying that most people probably haven't played it.

I'm Gradius' biggest fanboy and I found it very disappointing. It's quite depressing to go Gradius Gaiden -> Gradius V -> Gradius Rebirth. It was on a par with Gradius III, but I wouldn't really think of playing that these days. Some of the level design was pretty poor.

This will be outsourced like all the other revived classics recently, and the developers won't have a clue what the soul of these games is all about. They'll add a lick of new paint and pump it out. I sound like one of those board posters I hate, but that's how I feel about these recent games.

To be fair, Gradius V was "outsourced" to Treasure, and it was great. And if you were looking for ReBirth to be Gradius VI, then yeah, I can see disappointment. But as what is essentially a reimagined version of the first game, it was fantastic.

Was it really? That would explain why I was able to click with it so quickly. I have yet to play a Treasure game I haven't liked.
