How many of you haven't played Super Mario Bros. on a real NES system?

It was the first game I ever played but it was a Mario/Duck Hunt cartridge.

Now that I think about it, I don't know if I've ever played a standalone SMB cartridge. :o
 
I was just plaing Mario 3 the other day with a friend of mine, co-op, on a real old school NES. Luckily, we didn't have to blow on the carts or get the flashing red light of death, or FRLOD as we commonly called it.
 
Not in a long time. My last NES system (top loading, in box), I gave to a friend as a present. Always looking for another one, when I have the cash.
 
Never owned a NES but certainly played it. SMB and Punch-Out!! were the first two games I ever played.

Acronyms do not have to be pronounced by sounding out the letters, think of AWOL as an example.
 
I feel bad for people who haven't experienced the joy of the sharp edges of a NES controlled digging into their palms and the resulting hand cramps.
 
what is the point of this thread? to gauge how old a gaffer is?
I played and owned it, but I am in my thirties so I don't expect people in their teens or early 20s to play something when they weren't or barely born

lol I only touched the Magnovox Odyssey once, besides the sole ONE kid who had one... I don't know anyone else on this Earth who had one
 
I played it on my NES as well as in a table top arcade cabinet at a pizza place behind my house when I was a kid.

Rather than ask how many people havent played on a Nintendo Entertainment System, perhaps the OP should have asked, "How many of you have have no idea what an acronym is?"

(1988 here) I was born in a communist occupied 3rd world country and I got to play Atari and owned NES.

Probably one of the first games I ever played...some of my earliest memories are of watching my brother play Metroid and my dad play Ghosts 'n Goblins

Well it doesn't mean you can't it just makes a narrow window of time since the game first came out in like 85. The people born later, without siblings, may have started with a snes or gen.

I still have a small bump on my thumb that rests perfectly into the A or B button from playing so much as a kid.
 
I remember playing it. I remember around the time of the PS1 and N64 my little brother and I got a NES my mom found at a garage sale. So that was like my first system. We had that game with Duckhunt in the same cartridge. We also got games from my cousin so we were stacked with NES gems Punch Out, Duck Tales, LoZ 2, Mario 2 and 3, Kung Fu, etc, now they're gone. I didn't have the patience to beat any of them. Wasn't a gamer then.

Would've been more fun to ask how many GAFers played the actual arcade Vs./Dual cabinet standalone version of SMB1 first if we're going for 'oldness' polls. Anyone who played that first knows that version was way more challenging than the home version ever was. If you played that version (especially to completion) first, the home version seemed so easy by comparison. Spent a lot of quarters on that mofo.

I'd nearly forgotten this. Only played it a few times, it was a beast between the tougher enemy placement and the hyper-caffeinated level timer.
